  1. Yeah, Beorn does seem a bit of a cliche name wise, but at the time it didn't bother me. I can't remember the other bit you refer to......I might have to dig the book out of the boxes in the loft and re-read it now. I do remember being rather taken by the idea of the shattered world and some other bits stuck in my mind, for example: The ensorcereled ( mmmm....spelling ) stairway to the caverns beneath the main castle. The fact that the main characters were flawed and not the goody goody heroes of so much heroic fantasy. It had it's faults but I liked it.
  2. Amazon.com: The Shattered World (9780671559519): Michael Reaves: Books It's got mixed reviews, but I have to say that I rather enjoyed it ( and the sequel )
  3. Sounds promising, I'm looking forward to this one. I have to ask, you haven't read The Shattered World by Michael Reaves by any chance have you ?
  4. it says submitted to Chaosium in July 2008, a year ago this month......
  5. The other thing that occurred to me about the ballistic stuff is ammunition supply. You mentioned a while back that the smallest Mecha in the supplement were about 4.5 metres tall, which is what ? about 14-15 ft tall ? Ammunition supply for the kinetic/ballistic stuff is going to be fairly limited, at least for the large calibre stuff. Granted rail guns and such like weapons don't require shell casings/cartridges etc etc so you could probably get away with a larger capacity there, but rockets or missiles are going to take up a fair bit of space.
  6. Not knowing much about mecha ( indeed, nothing would be nearer the mark ) but knowing a little about WW2 naval artillery, I think it's worth pointing out that an HE rocket has little or no armour piercing capability, whereas most naval artillery was designed to fire Semi Armour Piercing (SAP) or Armour Piercing (AP) rounds. I think when dealing with modern weaponry and damage you really need two weapon stats, one for armour piercing and one for damage. Indeed I think someone did exactly that with the Striker/BRP conversion in the downloads section
  7. Well, that's your next supplement sorted out then, we the people demand a robot supplement
  8. Rosen, I was curious, besides being able to design Mecha will the book allow you to design robots ( in the way that GURPS robots would ) ?
  9. Anybody else had this problem ? I've just tried to post on the forum.....after an incredibly long wait, the page refused to load. tried again and it then refused to accept my password. So I've reset my password. Now it's refusing to accept my password to get into the Playtesting forums >:->
  10. I've never really had a problem with legendary abilities or indeed feats, as long as they were used sensibly and didn't dominate the game. if you look at the Irish/Celtic myth cycle their heroes could do all sorts of weird stuff. One of them ( Cuchulainn ? ) did this thing where he'd cast 5 javelins at the enemy, jump up onto the javelins , run across them , leap down, strike down an enemy with his sword....and all before the first javelin struck. You simply can't do that kind of thing with skill rolls alone, and that it seems to me is where legendary abilities come in. Equally consider the whole Wuxia genre, think of Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon and that sort of flying/running thing they do during the combat sequences. It could be some kind of spell, but it seems more like an innate ability of the characters themselves, once again I would say that that is what legendary abilities is all about. Lastly, even RQ2 and 3 had something vaguely similiar in that various cults ( Humakt and I think Yelm ) had cult gifts and geasa.
  11. Sounds like a good idea to me, I really ought to find a copy of Other Suns and look at it, people always seem to speak of it positively.
  12. As you say, there comes a point when it simply is too much hassle. But with the SIZ stat I don't think it's at that point yet. if you had all three tables ( height, length, weight ) on the same page it'd be the work of moments to figure out the final SIZ stat. To be honest it's the only stat that really bugs me. You can argue back and forth on some of the others but they all do the job pretty well. SIZ on the other hand fails ( to my mind ) pretty soon after you look at it. Still, it is what it is, and I'll just have to put up with it As an afterthought if SIZ is a measurement of weight, would we all have different SIZ stats in low gravity or no gravity settings, or am I getting weight mixed up with mass there ? ( physics was never my strong point.... )
  13. I must admit I find the SIZ stat to be the most frustrating in BRP. I've always felt that you needed three tables: Height, Length, Weight and your final SIZ would be an average of the three.
  14. Is this work or pleasure ? Because 1) if it's work, I want your job if it let's me travel that much. 2) if it's pleasure, I want your job if it pays me well enough that I can afford to travel that much PS did you get that link I sent you for Nick Effingham's new site ?
  15. Returning to the subject of RQ/BRP monster conversions, someone did say in one thread on that the hit point distribution for hit locations is different in RQ to BRP. That is in RQ legs were .16 of total HP, whereas in BRP they were .20 and so on. I'm sure this was mentioned somewhere. If so you might have to do a little bit of conversion work. Whether they adjusted this in the BRP reissues of the creatures book I have no idea.
  16. An emopire ? An empire run by really intense musicians presumably ? It actually sounds like a lot of fun. I especially like the idea of the Incan style Dwarves
  17. As several have already suggested some kind of historical campaign might be the order of the day. Arthurian England has been mentioned, what about a vikings campaign, see if you can pick up a copy of the old RQ Vikings pack somewhere. You could have your heroes mixing it up with brooding Finnish woodland spirits in the east ( I think there are a couple of Hero wars supplements out that would provide source material ) , or sailing west to Vinland... Mythic Iceland is apparently close to completion. Or, go east young man. There's a MRQ Japan supplement and the RQ3 Land of ninja pack crops up secondhand reasonably regularly. You might have a Chinese Wuxia Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon style campaign. Or, how about the ancient middle east? Assyria, Egypt, Tyre....think mummy and ghoul infested tombs in the valley of kings, demons haunting the night in ancient Babylon. if you want to be a bit elastic with the timeline ( it is fantasy after all ) you could have some Homeric era Greek stuff going on in the north at the same time.... what is the truth of the minotaurs labyrinth in Minoan crete ? And we haven't even left Earth yet
  18. You mean we're not supposed to do that ?
  19. Live my creation ! live ! mu ha ha ha ha. erm.... yes , well, good to see the site back up and running. ps. I think House is great, but over here in the UK Sky TV have just nabbed the rights for it and I don't have satellite or cable
  20. Worth checking these two places for out of print BRP stuff as well: NOBLE KNIGHT GAMES - Role Playing Games, RPG's, Board Games, Miniatures, Dungeons and Dragons - New & Out-of-Print Magic The Gathering Cards & Decks
  21. Looking at the home page for BRP there's 16 monographs or supplements in the under preparation category. I was wondering if the various authors are still on the site if they could give us a sit rep for their supplements...some have been very quiet for a long time.
  22. Enquiring minds want to know:lol: Especially as it looks like a semi acoustic bass which is a pretty rare animal guitar wise
  23. It's simply that we are not worthy I like it
