  1. One nasty thing could be that if someone was already thinking of raiding you, they will make damn sure to do it before the wall comes up now.
  2. I strongly recommend against handing out XP/checks for roleplaying - it's one of those old-fashioned ideas that never seems to work yet keeps coming up. If you want to reward players with points, consider giving them re-rolls or something else that's more transient. Presumably something copy&paste-related?
  3. This is a really good question. It used to be POW vs. POW, which is clearly allowed, but Spirit Combat seems trickier, not to mention inherently being violent conflict resolution. On the other hand, things would turn weird if CA initiates couldn’t fight Spirit Combat even when attacked, as that would leave them wide open to possession. I would be inclined to allow it, on the grounds that Spirit Combat is more of an abstraction than outright violence. One could still argue about whether binding unwilling spirits would be okay, though.
  4. The building stuff is poorly supported and will have to be a GM call. Herds, however, are well-defined - one herder requires 300L worth of sheep or 400L worth of cattle for the job, and If you provide the herds, you earn half. You need 5 herders each handing you half the earnings to make a Noble income, so you require 1500 - 2000 L for the herds, plus you need to have grazing lands for them. And this being Sartar, you had better have security for them as well, or they’re free pickings for raiders. I don’t buy the idea of Apple Lane being neutral ground where you don’t get raided - the way you could achieve that would be having a powerful protector, perhaps even the Prince of Sartar.
  5. Amphibians can usually achieve at least some breathing through their skins, so perhaps this would extend time underwater even if lungs are required for full breathing?
  6. One surprising thing here - the Firearrow missile can’t impale, but it can (by omission) still Crush, if you throw a rock (or if as Jason suggested on Facebook, Sling will get an errata to get receive half DB, which makes little sense to me).
  7. I say it does for Fireblade - there is absolutely nothing in the actual rules which indicates that it shouldn't. Unlike Multimissile and Firearrow, which are clear on the point ("A Firearrow cannot impale"). Of course, the intention might be that it shouldn't (this even seems likely, given Firearrow), but in that case, errata is required.
  8. I think it has to be "SR = 12 Preparation for Spirit Magic complete", as this takes 5 SRs. Then you cast on next SR 1. But it depends on whether you see the spell readiness as a separate 5 SR activity, or as a +5 SR cost (in the latter case, your example would work if you had Dex SR 0). I find it easier to see readying, reloading and so on as separate activities, not as additional SR costs, but the rules are far from clear.
  9. (Let’s not play Broo Brothers, though.)
  10. ”There's 106 miles to Glamour, we've got a full sack of oats, half a pack of hazia, it's dark out, and we're wearing obsidian lenses.” ”Hit it!”
  11. Unclear - the phrasing suggests a free attack on top of everything else, but this doesn’t quite make sense within the system.
  12. I believe a typical clan will have three minor temples - Orlanth, Ernalda, and clan specific. These will commonly be in the clan center, likely to be a larger village.
  13. Not quite. SR1: Fire! SR6: Reload done SR7: Fire! SR12: Reload done
  14. I think it's mostly in a roundabout way - if your parents are merchants, and raise you to be a merchant, then it's at least more likely than otherwise that you will initiate into Issaries. It's the family trade, after all. You could be called by another god, which will mess up your parents' plans for you (in my campaign, the eldest son of the farmer family is a Daka Fal apprentice shaman, and his parents are only slowly accepting that it might be more than just a phase - good thing they have two spare sons with more sense!).
  15. I think you should only play Humakti or CA if you want to lean into the special restrictions. It tends to be a bit restrictive on the roleplaying as well, so you need to want those restrictions. Meanwhile, as Orlanthi or Ernaldan, your choices are wide open.
  16. We have an Ernaldan healer, and you don’t miss out on too much - reusable Resurrect and niche healing magic. Meanwhile, she can grab axe and shield and hold her ground in a fight, as well as have access to the simply ridiculously wide Ernaldan rune magic.
  17. Sleep is an absolute powerhouse spell in combat, so while the options for a CA character in combat may be limited (sleep or heal), the power level and ability to contribute is high.
  18. This strikes me as highly likely even under a less strict interpretation. Humakt calls followers, rather than them being raised into the cult.
  19. Unlike in Elemental Runes, you can't have 0% in a Form rune - it's a slider between 1% and 99%, with most people presumably falling somewhere in the middle (if unlisted in an NPC, assume 50%, I guess?). So your low Fertility would be lower than average.
  20. One way to handle this within the rules could go something like this: GM: Roll your Fertility rune. Uroxi, looking at character sheet, dismayed: Oh, that's bad... but Storm Bull isn't exactly infertile, is he? Can I attempt to augment with Devotion(Storm Bull)? GM: Can't see why not.
  21. You're in the right place in Apple Lane, then!
  22. This would also mean that if you're uninitiated but have, say, a high Death Rune, how it expresses would be molded by the cult that you initiate into. Which is super interesting! Perhaps your high Death rune has to be expressed some way, but what exact manner it takes depends on you and your cult? It could also mean that if you have some outstandingly high Rune, there might be a social interest in prodding you into a cult that can handle that - people with a super high Death rune but no cultic framework to manage it in could be a menace to society and a danger to themselves. It's bad if you easily fly into a murderous rage... until you get a Storm Bull initiation, at least! (HeroWars kinda suggested that Eurmal initiations was society's way to do something with problem kids...)
