  1. We usually start selling the PDFs as soon as they are ready, which is usually very shortly after the final print files get sent to the printer for proofs. We say "shortly after" because we have to bookmark the PDFs.
  2. I've looked around and haven't seen a lot of unfriendliness, certainly compared to most other rpg forums I go to. For what it's worth, I saw unpleasant posts here before Chaosium started regularly posting here, and haven't noticed any increase (or decrease) over time. I'm also not sure what you mean by "things went crazy, here and elsewhere". Do you mean an increase in traffic? increases in speculation? increases in communication? increase in general insanity? I don't like to see anyone stop posting, but I've mainly noticed an overall increase in posts on a wide variety of subjects. I'm not denying that any newcomer to these forums may not instantly pick up on "the vibe of how things are here", but that's not unique to this forum, and seems pretty typical to most forums. I firmly believe that all things change. It is within our power to help make sure that change is for likely to be for the better, and that's how I am approaching this forum.
  3. It is not an exact reprint of RQ2. If we did that it would not have the errata incorporated into the text, nor would we have corrected some typos. :-) and there wouldn't be a barcode on the back cover. ;-) The layout has been updated a bit, and we have added additional items into the appendices, plus some Q&A from Steve Perrin's "Rambling Runequestions". We also updated the Orlanth and Kyger Litor Cults so they are the Cults of Prax versions as opposed to the abbreviated versions the rulebook used. As a result, the book is now 144 pages instead of the original 120. The GM Handouts in the middle of the book will now be separately available. Of course the PDF of the book is bookmarked well.

    Big Rubble

Steve: We haven't forgotten about it. We have a lot going on right now. It's not dead, just pushed down the production schedule.
  5. RQ2 versions of Trollpak, SPH and Apple Lane are all possible. Chaosium owns the copyright on RQ3 Gloranthan publications as well, but not RQ3 Gateway.
  6. The errata incorporated into the RQ2 rules is the 2 pages produced by Chaosium, plus we went through many issues of Wyrms Footnotes and picked up a few bits and pieces from there. Cults of Prax and Cults of Terror may get reprinted as individual books, not combined with anything else, including each other. If you want them combined into a single book, buy the Cult Compendium. CoP and CoT would probably not be stretch goals if part of a Kickstarter. Foes is a nifty book, but it wasn't that popular compared to the rest of the books in the line, and it would also be a lot of work to OCR and clean up. It is WAY down the priority list.
  7. People are very welcome to ask us about our current or future "in the works" projects. The only question we prefer not to get asked is "when?". If we actually know when something will be done, we will tell me people without them having to ask. If we don't know when, we don't mention it. No pun intended, but we're not playing some kind of game when it comes forthcoming projects. We want people to know when to expect things so they can be ready to buy them and talk about them when they are ready. The problem is we have far more ideas and projects than hours in the day.
  8. The three documents are Runequest 2 (with errata), Cults of Prax and Cults of Terror.
  9. Once we know that Chaosium absolutely has all the rights for an out-of-print title it is very likely that we will get it back into "print" in some form or other. If we feel it does not justify a full print run (which means 1000+ copies) we will offer the title as PDF and POD via Lulu and/or DTRPG. Researching the rights on some titles is not always as easy as it sounds. In the early days Chaosium made different deals for many of its products. For example, we do not have the rights to Raiders and Traders. If it was written by an employee we own the copyright on the text, like Ringworld, but we no longer have the rights to use Larry Niven's IP (Intellectual Property). The same could be said for Elfquest. While it may be possible to license the IP rights again that takes time and probably money. I believe that Worlds of Wonder was a combination work for hire and employee created project, but we would have to dig out the contracts (if we have them) and see what they say. Alas, it's not just a "scan and upload the file" situation. I dislike the quality most "scan to PDF" efforts yield anyway. It's better than no PDF, but not by that much. It's the electronic equivalent of a bad photocopy. As for "would they be straight-up reproductions or will any be revised?", that's also a "depends on the title" situation. If we are getting it back into circulation because people have a hard time finding the original without paying "collector prices" a straight reprint is probably best, especially if the game isn't played much any more. I do know one likely aspect of some reprints. It is very unlikely that we would reprint a boxed game, like Worlds of Wonder, as a boxed game. It would probably be done as a single hardcover book. As for when, we have a lot of work to do getting the company back firmly on its feet, fulfilling its current obligations, and also getting some new product out. We might work some magic on a few classic titles along the way, but massive amounts of classic titles coming back over the next few months just isn't on the current schedule. ps: if you own a good scanner, own and know how to use good OCR software, and want to volunteer, please privately message me.
  10. Yes, Chaosium will do a much nicer book for the comic once the story is further along. The promo version sold at Gen Con and at Essen is not what the finished product for distribution and general sale will be printed like.
  11. I've always pronounced it sun-CHEN
  12. Sunwolfe said: Since June, I’ve been hoping for some official shout out, even a small one, from Chaosium: “We’re keeping BRP, but (understandably) it is the lowest of our priorities…don’t worry though, we remember all our loyal fans…”. At our Gencon 2015 news seminar, available as a podcast, and mentioned in several other people's podcasts, I mentioned what we basically intend to do with BRP. http://www.mu-podcast.com/whats-new-at-chaosium-panel-gencon-2015/ BRP starts getting asked about at 49:00 minutes in and again at 51:00. Up front I should clarify that you won't be hearing detailed plans for what we intend to do with BRP. What I found interesting though is that I used similar phrasing to what I quoted above. Side note: we're going to have the BRP softcover big gold book for sale again soon on the Chaosium website, probably right around the end of the month. Also, please note that the BRP BGB remains in the new forum banner.
  13. Thank you for the feedback Chaosium is a small company with limited time and resources. Trifletraxor (the site owner) made us a very generous offer to use BRP Central as Chaosium's "official" posting place and to work with us on adding topics and such. We don't own these forums. We support these forums, and we want want to do a lot of posting here. We thought we could modify (mainly by adding) a few things here rather than creating "yet another forum" somewhere else. To us, "Basic Roleplaying" involves a whole extended family of games, game worlds, and game companies. If some games or game worlds are "first cousins" or "second cousins" or whatever other analogy you want to use to explain it, we're not fussed. We want to post stuff, have fun discussions, share ideas, provide updates, and answer some questions along the way. If you preferred us to say, "BRP Central is where Chaosium says lots of cool stuff more often than in other forums", instead of "BRP Central (basicroleplaying.org) is the new official online forum for Chaosium" that wouldn't be an issue. The word "Official" wasn't used to mean we intend to enforce rules, limit discussions, or drive away "evil competition"TM. We don't fear other gaming efforts or other game companies. We have no hidden agenda. We see these forums as a hub for having more Chaosium related discussions.
  14. We have created a new banner for the home page. It should be uploaded soon.
  15. Greetings all, Now that Chaosium is going to be more actively involved in this forum and directing users here from the Chaosium.com website (in the near future) we are interested in reading your suggestions on how to fine tune these forums, their features, and their contents. We welcome your feedback. Our only request is that you be constructive and suggest fixes along with any issues you raise. Identifying problems is silver. Identifying a problem and suggesting how to fix it is gold. We appreciate your help.
  16. Cthulhu Dark Ages is being redone. After the Vampire Wars is being worked on too. They'll be back soon enough.
  17. Alas, I don't read this forum every day. I usually cruise through a few forums on the weekend to see what's being discussed and sometimes something catches my eye, like 5 pages of this discussion. I didn't attend Kraken, so that gave me a bit more time this specific weekend. When we do post announcements, we try to be thorough, not create confusion. I respect that many of you are keen to know exactly what we are planning, and want loads of detail, but we don't have that to provide right now. The Chaosium website, since you mentioned it, was not set up to hold discussions, thus we use social media.
  18. While we work on our detailed plans for how we support the "BRP" line of products going forward, please let me state that when we were talking about "BRP" in our initial statement we did not omit Magic World on purpose. We were speaking about BRP in general. Just like the BGB, we intend to have Magic World, Advanced Sorcery, Enlightened Magic, and most other BRP titles all live on via drivethrurpg and lulu as POD and PDF once the current stock of paper copies has sold out. You may notice that most of the titles are still sold on our website. They are available to distributors if game stores want to buy them. If we have the rights to keep selling it, we will keep selling it as POD and PDF, bare minimum. If we do not mention title X it is probably because we are trying to keep our message "short and sweet" and not because we have declared it dead and never want it mentioned again. I say "most other BRP titles" in a previous sentence because we are having to very carefully check each product to actually make sure we have the right to sell it, which is sometimes more time consuming than we wish. Each monograph deal (with the author/authors) in particular is not always as simple and straight-forward as you might think. Hang in there. Hope that helps a little.
  19. Hi guys, While Your Glorantha Will Vary (YGWV), Genert, the destroyed god, is pronounced GEN-ert, the first G is like the G in Guru. It is not a J sound. Pamaltela has no "R" sound at the end. It is Pam-alt-ell-uh. ps: I am not trying to be picky. Please pronounce it any way you want in your campaign, but we at Moon Design stick with how Greg says them.
  20. If I saw a two volume set of Hardcover 10x12 coffee table books with dust jackets, with hundreds and hundreds of full color pages, I wouldn't be surprised by a $100+ price rage.
  21. We are rapidly closing in on the stretch goal of 160K (143K as of this morning). If that goal gets reached everyone paying for the printed Guide will be getting a second printed book for free (they currently get a PDF of the stretch goal material for free). The Main Guide becomes an integrated two-volume set. The Guide (and a few other items) will be sold after the KS is over, at least through the Moon Design website. The expected retail price for the Guide after this KS is over will be somewhere between $100 and $125, not $80. Thus, getting the Guide for $80 in your FLGS is highly unlikely, unless they really undercut retail and they decide to stock the books. The price in the Kickstarter is a "get in early" price, which is lower than the eventual retail price. I'll let all of you decide whether that is an incentive to participate in our Kickstarter.
  22. We are 99% ready, and want to launch the kickstarter this weekend.
  23. Hello all, We've just posted a fair bit of info on the forthcoming Guide to Glorantha project: Kickstart the Guide to Glorantha | Moon Design Publications Text is finished and edited, art is 98% done, and maps are done. Layout begins very shortly.
  24. Hi Guys, First, I am a moderator of this forum. As for the Gloranthan Classics, they were only adjusted to correct some viewing problems with a few of the images for iPad users.
  25. I still sell this book. Just email me directly. Also, the PDF is for sale on drivethrurpg.
