In fact behind the scenes there's a fairly regular flow of friendly emails and cooperation. Oh and we hang out at the same cons and like TALK to each other
  2. Yes in a low Average Int sort of way Questbird hits the nail on the head for my reasoning why Rurik is so Averagely blah in the INT department. If you go read the character generation example in OpenQuest, of which he's the star of , he starts with 8 in INT and his player adds 2 points out of a pool of 30* at his disposal "to make sure Rurik is average for Intelligence". * much of which has already been spent on STR, CON, DEX and SIZ because Rurik's player wants him to be a Warrior.
  3. Just to be crystal clear the Gloranthan License I have with Moon Design only covers me for HeroQuest. The Rune Magic for OQ and Gloranthan OpenQuest scenario in OpenQuest adventures were one offs which I had special permission to do.

That doesn't bear thinking about does it Actually, being a pedant again, there would have been a D101 Games, except we'd be almost exclusively story gaming, mainly HQ Glorantha/ WordPlay and Monkey, which is my main reason for doing D101, would have came out a heck of a lot earlier. That MRQ SRD has a lot to answer for

How else are the players going to shout "HERE COME THE BABOONS!"* while sitting on the roofs preparing for their attack, and I won't be able include the Battle Magic spell "Avoid Thrown Feaces" *Which apparently happened in John Ossoway's game of Apple Lane (now that is old school for you)

OQ Basic isn't a stripped down version of the rules, more a selective core (none of the optional rules, a cut down bestary, only battle magic and none of the GM advice chapters), and those 157 pages are US Tradepaper back sized. If I went out of my way I could write a very condenced version of OQ. Right disengage pedant mode..this isn't about OQ
  9. You can make what you will of the brief description in Life and Death. One of the things me and my fellow OpenQuest authors got a bit fed up with was the whole idea of closed overly detailed fantasy worlds that tend to be produced these days. So we deliberately went the way that inspired us in the 80s/90s of more flavoursome but slightly fuzzy around the edges worlds. That be said you are asking for the official line here Ok so in my version of of Inzom, there's a limited amount of rubbing shoulders with both the corporeal and incorporeal undead in the street, but by Inzom's Laws the dead have their places to live (in the Tomb areas and the vast and deep catacombs under the city) and the living have theirs. However there are exceptions to complicate maters. Like the House of the Wilting Flowers, whose noble family persished in the invasion of the city by the Iron Legions, but continiue to live on in the house, which is in an official Living District, as ghosts. There's a polite notice on the door saying that the family are happy for the living to make use of the house during the day, even eat the offerings that surviving family members leave on the old family altar, but once dusk falls only dead guests are welcome. There's also a whole licensing system for various undead servants (yes even House Zombies have rights in Inzom!) and their living counterparts who work in the Houses of the Dead. ... i could go on but I'm currently writing the sequel to Life and Death which is based in Inzom

I playtested both the first two Savage North adventures and they were one of my most memorable experiences ever Worth noting if you are after an example of a OQ "High level" adventure Tomb of the Empty Emperor in OpenQuest Adventures fullfils that (and has pre-gen characters). Final note about DCC classics adventures and OQ, from the adventures I've seen they are a good fit for OQ

Funnily enough I had thought about doing a version of OQ filled with Old School Tables, not just Critical and Fumbles but also ones for previous experience and event tables like "What happens when I leave/betray my Cult?". But I'm a bit tied up with other projects at the moment. I'd say this is a very good idea for the community (as well as more OQ stuff in general).
  13. It is completly possible with the rules as written, since I wrote them to be as flexible to different types of playstyle as possible. There's a number of adventures that I've published that are either directly Old School Dungeon crawls, with D100 sensiblities (i.e strong story and supporting cast), or with enough of the familiar trophes that players familiar with Dungeon Crawling will feel right at home. The Road Less Travelled in OpenQuest2 Deluxe has a smail Dungeon in its final section The Savage North is a collection of four old school adventures, and is probably the most old school thing we've done for the line. It has three adventures that are Dungeon based entirely. The other is a wilderness treck and the final one is a mix of wilderness and dungeon. There's also more comprehensive notes on how to run this style of adventure over a campaign. Deep in the Hole in OpenQuest Adventures http://www.drivethrurpg.com/product/150599/OpenQuest-Adventures is a small Dungeon (with supporting Village) I would however put cavaets on this. OpenQuest combat is far more deadly than D&D, by virtue of the fact that you have a Static Pool of hit points that don't increase with experience. If you are not correctly using tactics and magic (even non-magic using characters should have a couple of Battle Magic spells to give them the edge in combat) then you will quickly get dragged down. Make sure you have someone in the group who has Healing, since the whole hit points issue means that you can quickly loose large amounts of hit points. OQ dungeoneering does not follow the Hit Point attrition route that D&D does. OQ characters tend to sail through unscathed or suddenly loose large chunks of hit points from a lucky hit. Give you players time to heal up after each encounter, unless you are really turning up the heat on them Allow the use Hero Points.

All in a very quick digestible format that even newcomers can easily pick up on. The rest of this book is primarily aimed at the Narrator. Mythology and History This chapter details first details the mythical events that happened in the Godtime and then some of the historical events of the city. A rough timeline of the city is also given. The City Guide This chapter details the city of Serris, a minor Dara Happan city in an out of the way part of the Lunar heartlands that is the base for the first three adventures.# Cast List A grouping of all the major recurring non-player characters in one place for ease of reference during play, and as a primer before reading the Episodes. The Adventures Escorting the Goddess (1620ST) The heroes escort a Lunar friend to her marriage in a Solar Household, who belongs to the Boat of the Silver Hind association. This does not go without incident. As well as acting as the players’ introduction to the gods and goddesses of the Lunar way, the players also meet in passing characters that are later to play a more integral part in the epic. The Death of the Heir (1621ST) Yanis, the heir of the Five Trees of Bounty Association, dies while on a tour of the Barbarian Wastes of Prax. During the period of mourning, the enemies of the Five Trees of Bounty take advantage, and come up with a horrific scheme to discredit the favoured of Yelm. Can the heroes solve the mystery and expose the scheme, preserving their Association’s honour and status? Achec’s Tomb (1624ST) In the maze of legal cases brought by the Five Trees of Bounty’s rival associations, after Yanis’ death, is a case to move the tomb of Achec. This tomb looks over the Great Market in the Old City and reputably the spirit of Achec helps the city’s merchants deal with outside barbarians. The Seven Nights of Glory makes its move by putting forward the proposal that the tomb should be moved to the New Market in Moonie town. Can the players successfully put forward a case for the tomb to stay where it is? Can they discover the secret of the tomb? Last Seen in Pavis (1625ST) Yanis, the heir that is presumed dead is reported seen alive in the barbarian city of Pavis. Dodging agents of the Seven Nights of Glory, the Heroes must make their way to the furthest corner of the Lunar Empire and find out the truth of the matter. Question is will they like what they find?

    Damage bonus

    Its on P16 of OQ Deluxe, P18 of OQ Basic and even P13 of OQ1. In all cases its the first sentence of the description. "The Damage Modifier applies whenever the character uses a melee or thrown weapon." If you don't agree with that House Rule it to your hearts content
