  1. a huge source of strife historically in Byzantium were the sports fans of the Blue and Green (yes, I too have questioned the color decisions here), which were the two "teams" in coliseum sports. (Originally there were four, but Red and White got gobbled up by Blue and Green.) Hooliganism was a tremendous problem in Rome, with all four colors involved in massive, violent riots. these original ultras were a huge problem. they even ended up as sides in civil war in Byzantium! crime syndicates initially invested in game fixing and general thievery, but rapidly they had a Furioza situation.
  2. death, not ancestors, but 100%. that doesn't mean a Daka Fal cult isn't popular, though, in the situation described you would probably have both cults.
  3. He underwent Uzification and became an Uz, at least in terms of his mortal form. After the Gbaji battle, he wasn't an Uz anymore, although it's unclear exactly what (who?) he was.
  4. Given the very different situation for Uz in Esrolia's capital, where your trollkin are not going to be released to be hunted and where Argan Argar is boss, smart enlo would likely be employed, and not just as laborers. Their ability to read and write would be very useful in commerce and in bureaucracy for the Uz. They could also be used in militia. Historically, policing didn't exist in any way that we understand it; guards did. And trained enlo could make excellent guards for a community that can pay. There's a lot more smart enlo then there are Humakti!
  5. i was just thinking about how "Krarsht and Seseine worshippers" and "Argan Argar trolls" don't really belong in the same category
  6. Argan Argar's Sunglass Hut's overwhelming dominance here suggests the shadiness of the dealings is much lower than elsewhere
  7. If Nochet doesn't have a Sta Muerta equivalent someone is doing a bad job at Glorantha If you aren't familiar, she's a death god worshipped in North America primarily by people of Mexican origin, both in Mexico and in the Diaspora, and she's 100% not limited to one ethnic group (or to gangsters). She's a continuation of Mictēcacihuātl (IPA: mik.teː.ka.ˈsi.waːt͡ɬ]) in the same way that in the Near East, Elijah, Saint George and al-Khidr are of older storm gods. she is death, but she also brings wealth and fertility. this 100% needs to be a thing OUTSIDE of the Earth deities that exist. Imagine a Krarsht cult cosplaying as the female Lanbril 'Sta Muerte' figure. (Sta Muerte was originally a male figure, the "grim reaper", so I was thinking Lanbril.) Seseine appropriating the imagery. official priesthoods of Earth Deities trying to crack down on them. a pious version of Earth Deities counter-riffing off of the female Lanbril's popularity. My gods, the shenanigans
  8. guys i know maybe it seems like old hat but honestly there's a bat from a Chaos Hell the size of a 747 that eats people, even the lice on it are man-eating, and it has its own staff the Red Moon was recently (in Old World terms) formed, which left a one-way portal to a (Lunar) Hell behind and there's a staircase from Glamour to said moon Kero Fin touches the sky, and its peak is higher than that Moon's position
  9. so sort of classic greek mythology meets xianxia, then: it's what I call "the Exalted play-style"
  10. I mean the "something more" is the genesis of Sedenya, n'est-ce pas? The Entekosiad is about the origins of the Red Goddess.
  11. Yelmalio was first revealed by Nysalor at the Battle of Night and Day
  12. I'd rather watch it in Telugu with subtitles; I loathe dubs
  13. Lodril is literally a Sky/Fire god, he's just "ethnic" now because the Fire Nation has a strict ascetic hierarchy. The Lowfires are present in Orlanthi and Praxian cults but they are still fire/sky gods, just really low-ranking ones who were 'exiled'. And Yelmalio is not a Sky loyalist, but an independent party tied to Illumination, but still is a Sky/Fire deity. If you want to talk about panthea that's not the same thing as divine identity. Besides, Lodril is a bad example because he's literally a member of the traditional Sky pantheon (like Molanni and Dendara). Heler/a is still a Water deity even if they're Orlanthi/"Earth Tribe". Yelmalio was Sky pantheon and now is in some intermediate space leaning Sky/Moon. And Prax was an Earth pantheon that's turned into something entirely different. Also, "Storm" and "Air" are the same; just because she's tame/loyalist doesn't unmake her identity. "Air" is the space made between Sky and Earth by Storm. I 100% don't understand these distinctions.
  14. Netflix only lets me watch it in HINDI with subtitles, which is not unexpectedly a surreal experience
  15. so what we know about Kuschile Archery in Prax is that... it doesn't happen. The Sun Domers there don't even have horses. The horse (and antecedents/relations, like the unicorns of Yelorna) are part of the specific practices of Solar faith and I'd say you had to be on a Horse (with capital letter, to indicate its mystic identity).
  16. for real like rural north maghrebine societies: consider tburidé, and that women now play it (and win the contests). Also if you've never watched tburidé,
  17. I'm with Phil, I don't think this is specifically anything other than "Eurasian mounted archers were infamous"
  18. Daughter of Hounds by Caitlín Kiernan is not set in the Dreamlands but it is a fantastic novel about a ghoul changeling and if you are a fan like me...
  19. Jar-Eel has been identified as the current living incarnation of the Red Goddess, which I think trumps Hon-Eel
  20. Kij Johnson, The Dream Quest of Vellitt Boe
  21. how does one pronounce kuschile, because my head reads it as "kuss CHIL leh" (u as in look)
  22. there might not have been six souls before Storm appeared!
