  1. Well.. I have magical stunt such as Teleportation Tracking that require teleportation and perception.. Teleportation Tracking Prerequisite: Teleportation > 50%, Perception > 75% Up to 10r after someone teleport away, can follow them Teleportation Divination Prerequisite: Perception > 75%, Vision 50% Up to 10r after someone teleport away, can observe their destination And in my soon to be shared Master of Orion setting I gave some advantage roll to some races... (and some have special powers) Also (another example)... Backstab Prerequisite: Stealth > 50% + a Small Melee Weapon SKill > 50% Cost: 1FP? free? Can backstab with any small melee weapon skill (not just the one prerequisite) as long make an attack from a hidden location / back. Which adds +D6 to damage.
  2. Stunt is a concept definitely missing in vanilla BRP and that beg to be added.... RevolutionD100 is almost based on it... Blood and Tide have lots of them... And I made a curated personal version for my BRP homebrew ruleset.. with a few extra rule on learning/researching and limiting them (Blood and Tide have no set maximum, I use INT/2 because, what else? And I like to limit them to force specialisation) Will probably share it soon.. made some magic tweak to go along with it... Anyway if you must know... I like how Revolution D100 define them. Stunt are improvement on skills. You need a skill (or in BRP you need a skill at, say, 50%/75%/90% a bit like Mythras cult benefits) to be able to learn the stunt. Stunt let you perform the skill better or with special move. A few examples that could be from Blood and Tide, Revolution D100 or my homebrew ones... Power Attack Prerequisite: [(Melee) Weapon] > 50% Cost: 3FP Next attack with the weapon will have +D6 damage Graceful Dodge Prerequisite: Dodge > 50% Cost: 1FP/3 dmg When taking half damage from an area attack in case of successful dodge, eliminate the remaining damage at the cost of 1FP/ 3 dmg. Fireball Prerequisite: Fire > 50% Cost +2 to spell level Turn the Fire spell into a fireball (area attack, 6m diameter) at the cost of 2 extra level of spell (BTW, reduced elemental spell cost to 2MP/D6-level and using general HP) Blueprint [device] Prerequisite: [Science/Craft] > 50% Normally science / craft is used for diagnostic and repair. Building an entirely new device from scratch is a hard roll (skill / 2). With this stunt the device can be crafted at normal difficulty. Ace [Skill] Prerequisite [Skill] > 50% Give one (1) advantage roll per session with the selected skill (i.e. roll twice, take best result) Tough as Nail Prerequisite: Player Character, Boss or Elites HP is now SIZ+CON instead of (SIZ+CON)/2
  3. Who is this Nyarlethotep guy? Sounds like the ugly brother to Nyarlathotep?!
  4. Do not split, there can be only one?! 😈💣🔫
  5. I was planning something just like that soltkass
  6. Good question! Since we don't usually track accommodation, food, bath, etc... I thought it wrong to track every minute gold won... And I think it's a topic I should give some consideration. though, for now, I have little idea / opinion.. As for looting and gold.. usually shop will have only mundane items and good magical items would only be a produce of adventure, so it's not really an issue, I think...
  7. Ultimately, since they all stand the test of time pretty much the same, it is a matter of taste... Also, how many supplements, how active is the editor, is a great factor. And the Mythras guys pump up a lots of stuff, compared to BRP being from 2014 with little in the way of recent supplement (they are all in for Cthulhu), so that's another reason! (for example Mythras has free supplement for Firearm, Star wars... and some nice setting supplements) After some test runs, I happen to prefer BGB/BRP at the moment too! At any rate, here are the salient point that will entice new users, I believe... - combat effect, they seem cool (after some practice I think I prefer the simpler approach of BRP) - magic, it's RuneQuest 3 magic. with cheaper cost an some sort of caster level (intensity = %/10) that seems cool (I just don't like how OP all RuneQuests magic variants are, and BRP powers got my votes, though still struggling with elemental magic in BRP) - combat style, that seems to make sense - I can't remember why now, since I am set on the combat flow of BRP, but the action point economy of Mythras seemed cool to me when I first read it Also, about your specific question, there are more crunchy rule in Mythras. BRP is quite straightforward... and all the special case can be found as an entry in "spot rules".
  8. ...told him to keep their present a secret!
  9. BRP already have future weaponry and forceshield! Infantry is covered! Now, you can argue you don't like the future gear in the book. But you can't say there is none!
  10. You right, many cheapos might have settled for the inferior quality, I fear... 😮
  11. We Aussies have the full toilet paper shield under wrap!
  12. But the question is.. The stars alignment, as seen from earth? Or from Betelgeuse?! 😮
  13. Quack, quack! Or, as we used to say in French (I mean, I think they still say it, but I left a while ago... 😮 😞 Coin, coin!
  14. Well.. I was afraid it might be too much.. but the only feedback is positive so far! Yea, was thinking to roll location in case of major wound.. and maybe luck roll to see whether the location is destroyed or not... Anyway my player are used to me changing rules... and I warn them in advance of experiment to soften the blow...
  15. Thanks for sharing. Lots of good stuff in there, I'll have to spend some time reading!
  16. I only watched the movie, it was quite good... The book is a very long series, I think... Your friend seem to have lots of good reading tip!
  17. There are lots of author, yes, but only a few stand the test of time. And while Stephen King doesn't write my favourite genre, hence I read of watch little from him, I think I can safely say he is one of those that do stand the test of time! 😮 I quite like the Dark Tower movie too! This one is not horror though... more like a strange approach to a merger between fantastic and contemporary..
  18. I am in an ongoing struggle / unsatisfaction with HP (and elemental spell, but that's another topic, though related) I am not GMing right now (taking turns) but for next campaign I plan 1. to go back to BRP, 2. To dicth location HP in favor of CoC like wound and general HP, 3. (optionally) use the optional rule of SIZ+CON for HP (instead of (SIZ+CON)/2) for Boss, elites and player characters (it will be a toughness stunt, so will cost 1 stunt slot) Now I wonder.. Tough PC might have like 30 HP, quite a lot... having second thoughts... Anyone experimented with this custom rule (general HP and CON+SIZ, i.e. not divided by 2), what did you think of it?
  19. Mm... It's missing vehicles.... As I understand it, vehicles is the one let down from BRP, really...
  20. Will try to replay in detail tonight (currently at work, and will try to tether my phone and use its internet tonight) but I just wanted to say now that the BRP magic systems are my favorites... But let me preamble a bit now... but not too much need to work too, haha.... All the other system seems designed with Overpowered magic for the villain in mind. In Mythras, RuneQuest, RevolutionD100 and similar system, affecting multiple characters at immense range for very long duration with great force is quite easy, you just need the appropriate skill. In BRP spell last a fixed modest duration (generally 15 minutes or 10 rounds) have a fixed range (generally 100 m) and an average cost of 3~4 MP (sometimes more or less) and armor protect against most elemental spells. I like that. However, after playing BRP, then Revolution D100 on the same campaign... I got used to casting spell for cheap (I came up with a custom rule for BRP that will enable that in some case) and I had really painful experience trying to make an interesting fireball spell (i.e. usable by player, dangerous, but acceptable)(but came up with untested yet idea for BRP) I will post the details tonight from home or maybe this after noon from work ^^ the details are a bit long for now... the short and succint story is: - spell cost reduction idea (with skill over 100% or magical item made with either POW or special material) - spell costing change (2mp/d6 instead of 3) - using CoC HP rule (no location, but major wound threshold) - stunts (think blood and tide or revolution d100, I added some modest requirement on stunt, such as skill over 50%~75%) - one of which is to reduce remaining (half) area damage on successful Dodge (using Fatigue Points for that) - and the other to turn single target spell in area spell (2 level for fireball, 1 level per extra target for chain-ligtning) - and even a stunt that give you 1 level of spell for free (usually save 1mp, but here 2) - using a resistance table variation (D20+characteristic over attack characteristic +10 instead of using a table to find out the percentage) I plane to give various bonus, including resistance bonus for some armor and attack bonus for some magic staves Basically elemental spell are too powerful for various reason (it's not too hard to make sure the dodge will fail, area damage always damage even with successful dodge, with location HP damage is ridiculous for little magic/xp investment), so they made them too costly. I try to improve both area... more escapable and less expensive.
  21. I'm going to post my homebrew rules in a few weeks, when my Master of Orion setting is developped well enough... But there is one thing I don't like with BRP it's the elemental spells.... But I think I found a compromise I like! Will text when I GM again (now I have a break when we take turn, the other player is GMing D&d5e of course....) Can explain later if you like (typing on a phone now.... My internet is broken )
  22. I don't like horror much, it's why I prefer BRP over CoC and it's why I don't watch much horror movie. But in a moment of boredom now I'm watching Doctor Sleep, from a Stephen King novel.. I'm not sure this is an accurate critic, but I feel like I want to say I understand why Stephen King is so successful. He doesn't just write a scary stuff, it's a meaningful and internally consistent, there is a real story here! Like it so far, even like it's a long 2 hours and half!
