Gustbran is the redsmith God

Gustbran is the Work Fire, the fire of the kiln and the furnace. As @metcalph said - heat metal spirit magic, and Create Bonfire, Furnace Fire, and Dismis, Summon Fire Elemental (medium), Binding Enchantment, Enchant Rune Metal, Magic Point Enchantment, Matrix Creation, Spirit Armor Enchantment. This cult covers redsmiths and potters.

Gustbran is the redsmith God. But which spells does he give? Enchant(Bronze) is useless. Sumon/Control(small fire elemental)?

Viborna, in the free adventure "The Rattling Wind," is an initiate and knows three Rune spells: Enchant (bronze), Find (copper), and Magic Point Enchantment.

Enchant (bronze) isn't totally useless. Enchanted bronze lets you injure Telmori and spirits. It's not as flashy as other enchanted Rune metals, though.

Since Viborna's an initiate, I suspect that one of the upsides to the Gustbran cult is that you don't need to be a Rune Master to learn enchantment spells.

Hang on. RQG rules say that only Rune levels can learn enchantments (as Rune spells, that is - but I presume that's what you mean).

I mean I'm not saying I think that's necessarily a good rule, but it's a rule (e.g. pp 276 and 280, one of the benefits of being a Rune Priest or Rune Lord is access to Enchantment spells - even God Talkers don't get that).

Mhm. And I suspect that, because Viborna is an initiate in Chaosium's adventure, that means Gustbran is an exception to that rule. Obviously I'm doing some subjective interpretation, and trying to read between the lines here.

You can find the adventure I'm referring to here.

Also, God-Talkers do get access to enchantment spells:

Quote

A God-talker has all the benefits of being an initiate of the cult. A God-talker can replenish Rune points by leading Sacred Time and holy day sacrifices, and by performing other sacrifices to the god. A God-talker may gain access to cult Enchantment spells. (page 278)

Gustbran is an exception to the rules. Initiates can learn enchantments.

Is there any supplement where there is a Gustbran cult profile?

Sorry I missunderstood but can't delete the comment.

Thanks for the info! What would Gustbran's starting skills be? Those spells seem to resemble RQ3's Lodril's spells, but RQ3's Lodril's cult skills don't seem very appropriate for Gustbran, except for the crafts.

The usual Cult Lore, Worship & meditate, then Craft (bronze or pottery), Bargain,  Evaluate.

I would be happy with some pottery spells.

Like keep fresh the food/seed (?)/ liquid inside, help to "form" the pottery in incredible shape, etc...

That's much more an Earth cult spell - particularly Asrelia in protecting the seeds in the granary.

And that probably falls under various artists (e.g. Iphigios the Crafter in the Lunar Empire, Sestarto the Artist in Esrolia).  Might well be that these are at least Friendly cults to Gustbran and people can initiate to both.

The act of shaping wet clay is not exactly a core competence of Gustbran, although it falls into the general competence of his father Lodril, and of any number of earth cults.

Gustbran is about the magic that turns dissolvable clay into a rock-like structure.

Using mould technology is a province of Gustbran, at least for metals, and yes, you can create ceramics using moulds - that's how difficult china-ware is made. Glassmaking, glassblowing and colouring glass all are pyrotechnology, and thus part of Gustbran's competence.

Creating water-proof unglazed ware or creating glazed ware both are pyrotechnologies, somewhat advanced over the fire-pit method of making pottery. Higher temperatures in a well aerated kiln heated with charcoal can reach the temperatures that closes channels between the pores inside the ceramics. Or, in magical terms, the melting blaze of Gustbran's fire permeates the material completely, barring any water from coming through.

Telling how it is excessive verbis

It's a cult skill. Gustbran Initiates receive free training in their craft skill.

Shape large amphorae, variable, make two amphora in the time it takes for one, for each extra level add in another amphora. eg there in the time for one. does not include firing.

Always damp. 2pts, Keeps 1 cubic metre of clay from drying out for 24 hours.

etc
