I'm pleased to say that the Kickstarter is now live, and happily funding as I drink my morning coffee :)

If you back it within the next two days (by Wednesday 3rd 12 midday ) you'll be one of the Early Birds who "Catches the Wyrm" and will get a free pdf of an exclusive Quickstart adventure.

Page 4 of the preview starts with the same text repeated twice:

Quote

OpenQuest is a game of fantasy adventure. It takes place in the imagination of its players, in worlds where dragons live, and magic exists and works! The players can take on the roles of brave warriors, crafty thieves, mysterious sorcerers and any other type of fantasy character.

There’s a massive hint in the name “Open” + “Quest”.

That's not the only typo or mistake in the preview, but I will wait with proof-reading until the draft is made available at the end of the campaign.

It was a wonderful howler, that I'm glad got spoted early on :) This is why I'm not allowed to edit my own work :D

OpenQuest 3rd Edition funded within 5 hours and three stretch goals funded in the first day.
Just in case you've not checked it out yet, until 9am (BST) Thursday 3rd Sept, there are Early Bird Backer levels which get you a Quickstart Adventure called "Catching the Wyrm".

Nearly a week on, he OGL SRD Website funded a couple of days ago.

We are now closing in (but £71 away) on the Saga of the Savage North, the new updated version of the Savage North with all new adventures.

Once we've hit that stretch goal, I'll post and update about the next setting/adventure book we have planed Paul Mitchener's The Clock Work Palace.

Well the Saga of the Savage North is well and truly funded and we are currently closing in on Paul Mitchener's The Clockwork Palace

Read more about The Clock Work Palace.

Beyond this, I've just released details of another set of stetch goals that should lead us to the end of the campaign.

£8000 The OpenQuest Companion

A book of alternative and additional rules, which for one reason or another didn’t make the cut to the main rulebook but are still valid and useful.

£9000 OpenQuest Dungeons

One of the biggest requests regarding OpenQuest I get is to write some a D&D conversion. This isn’t it, but it is a book that you use to introduce newcomers to D100 gaming. It will contain four adventures and rules and advice on how to run D100 Dungeons.

£10,000 Support for a Virtual Tabletop

This is one I’ll have to research because I tend to use Google Meet with dice rolls on trust and theatre of the mind combat. Roll 20 comes instantly to mind, but as a publisher, I’m in intrigued by Astral since they have partnered with drivethrurpg.com.

$11,000 The Four Emperors by Paul Mitchener

Dr Mitch loves a bit of historical fantasy. Not only did he co-author Age of Arthur with fellow D101 Games ally Graham Spearing, but he wrote Hunters of Alexandria at Fate game based in the early years of the Roman occupation. Ultimately this will be a standalone roleplaying game using OpenQuest which covers the Roman World during the time after Nero’s suicide and the rapid succession of four emperors after him. Immediately this will be a republishing of Non Semper Erit Aestas (last seen in OpenQuest Adventures), as standalone adventure/sourcebook that all backers would receive. Consider it a preview/QuickStart for the full game, which Dr Mitch gets the green light to write/develop in 2021.

£15,000 OpenQuest Patron’s Choice

If we reach this lofty goal, I will give the OpenQuest Patrons a list of possible projects which they will vote upon, and then I will work on the winner. The options will be previous D101 Games books, that can be converted easily to OpenQuest. All backers will get it in pdf/pod, but OpenQuest Patron’s will get it signed and sent. At the time of writing, there are three OpenQuest Patron slots left.

We are in the final week of the campaign, and just about to hit the OpenQuest Companion stretch goal - which will present a selection of extra and alternative rules for the game in a single book.

As a thank you to the backers who have stuck with the campaign during its slow period (or the slump as us publishers call it), they will now all be getting a Duck based adventure with six pre-generated characters called Angry Ducks. This has now been upgraded to a full book , with the working title of The Book of Duck, which has been upgraded by the generosity of a backer who within minutes of me posting the following update pledged at the special or of a kind Mistress/Master of Ducks level.

Also related to this sudden bout of Duck craziness is this post on openquestrpg.com, which explains why I'm so captivated by Ducks as a non-human race.

In short the campaign has funded the following books.

  • The Main rulebook
  • The Saga of the Savage North
  • The Clockwork Palace
  • The Book of Duck (working title)

and we are but a short distance from funding the OpenQuest Companion.

Thank you so much :)

I must admit that I'm not captivated by ducks, though your explanation is fair.

They were always a thing which made me shy away from Runequest and Glorantha, and it gave me pause when I saw one on the front cover of OpenQuest 3.

Its the last day of funding.

One last crazzzzzy stretch goal , "the one where OpenQuest Patron backers vote on my next OQ powered project and everyone gets the first draft (at least) in pdf". I've lowered the funding goal to £13k which is achievable today.

Remember there are add-ons, including the soon to go out of print The Company, OQ Classics Bundle (Life and Death, Savage North, and Crucible of Dragons).  the book of OpenQuest Patrons.

Here's the link one last time:
