  1. Thinking about it asking for a MW Monster Island is probably asking too much. Monster Island is on the high end of awesome...
  2. I don't know... If I could get the Monster Island concept customized for Magic World I would be thrilled! Swords and sorcery setting and monster manual all in one! As it is I plan to adapt Monster Island to my MW campaign later this year.
  3. All, I know that Magic World and BRP are being reassessed by Chaosium but assuming they move forward what supplement would you most want to see? For me its a monster manual (that has art - black and white drawings are fine).... And just in case someone is listening, I would rather have a Magic World / BRP monster manual than a Glorantha title.
  4. All, I am running a Magic World game ostensibly set in the Moorcock's Young Kingdoms geography (and using sorcery) but with scarcer use of demons and more mundane threats than than what is suggested in the various Stormbringer adventures. I am constructing a sandbox with the Purple Towns, particularly the Strong Arms as the central location focused on mystery, political intrigue and outdoor adventure more so than combat. I am avoiding building a dungeon crawl of any ilk. I have been considering buying Clockwork and Chivalry so as to leverage its setting, but am worried that it is so closely tied to historical England that applying the setting to the Purple Towns would be too troublesome. Can anyone suggest a setting that has political intrigue, outdoor adventure, mystery, etc... that I could leverage? It could use any rule set (D20, D100, etc...)... A few notes that might be helpful: My world is experiencing the Renaissance with the cultural and technological advances that brings. There are two forms of magic. My own free-form magic and tweaked sorcery rules from Mongoose's Elric of MelniboeMagic is more rare in my game and it is associated heavily with sorcery, murder, evil, etc...Of the plot hooks I have developed much of them tie in some grand way to the conflict between law and chaos.
  5. RAW with heroic hit points and free form magic...
  6. Yeah, I only have one book from Alephtar, BRP Rome but oh what a book. I have a closet full of D20 stuff and nothing really comes close.
  7. What's it about Auyl? Is it specific to Legend? Best!
  8. Someone on Google+ just posted that, if I understand properly, Moon Design will be running Chaosium... Anyone heard anything?
  9. Silver, I live near Spring Creek and Coit. I'm about 5 minutes from Preston and Legacy. Small world... i have not read the entire BGB yet but I would recommend it. They are a few details that MW leaves out that while not crucial to play are good background and the BGB covers it. One example was when I tried to figure out how long (real time) a turn was and how many rounds it had in it. MW hand waves it but BGB had the answer... 25 rounds each up to 12 seconds long. When you are tweaking the rules that kind of stuff is important. I also have Stormbringer 4 & 5. Stormbringer 5 has a better layout and excellent background on the young kingdoms but in every other respect is nearly identical to MW. Stormbringer 4 is also excellent, has awesome artwork and has the best demon summoning rules of the chaosium rule sets (in my opinion). Having said that if you have MW I don't think you need Stormbringer but you probably do need the BGB. As for RQ6 I am reading it now. Coming from D&D 2e I find it very crunchy (really crunchy) but also extremely well written and polished. As a matter of fact RQ6 and BRP's Rome book might be the best rule sets I have ever read. All in all if you like simulating combat realistically you will love RQ6. If you want a higher level slightly more abstract game I would stick with magic world.
  10. All, I wanted to make a shout out to Colin Brett! I found his Golden Grimoire campaign on the web recently and it is the best material I have seen for Stormbringer in forever! Thanks for sharing! You can find Colin's campaign at http://www.colinabrett.me.uk/htdocs/storm.html.
  11. Well said! I am at best an intermediate level GM and still have a lot to learn. Having said that I found out about BRP/MW last last year and haven't looked back since. It is just seems sooo much more intuitive than D&D.
  12. Nakana, Your suggestion to think of dex ranks as a pool of points that that you use to fund actions makes a lot of sense. Having said that is that what is described in the BGB? I ask because I am under the impression that Magic World (RAW) only allows one attack no matter how much dex you have... The only exceptions I can think of are in those cases where you have more than 100% skill point in a weapon (and you want to split them) or in the case where you are executing a riposte. Let me know if I am completely delusional :-) Silver7 one nuance that I found interesting is that irrespective of dex rank if a character armed with a short or medium weapon attacks a character armed with a long weapon the character with the long weapon goes first. It makes the decision to arm your character with a short sword a little more troubling :-)
  13. Hey Ben, I understand that the company shake up likely impacted Chronicler's Companion but can you tell us if the Companion and Monster books are still a high priority? I just ask because if they are close to coming out I will avoid any RPG purchases for the moment in anticipation of buying them... Thanks for all you do!
  14. Pansophy indicated you could edit the skill list but I am not sure the tool will force some number of points to be allocated to cultural skills and others to occupation skills. Also it's likely complicated to allow "any" skill to be allotted points as part of a character's occupation personal specialty. But if it does do that - that's awesome!
  15. Pansophy, Related to skills, would it be a lot of work to support other BRP rule sets? I am thinking of things like Mythic Iceland, Magic World, the excellent Rome book, etc... I only know the rules for magic world and they might be problematic given how they split skill allottment between culture and occupation but flexibility is good. No pressure from me though! I'm just happy such a useful app is available.
  16. Pansophy, Just an fyi... It doesn't seem to generate negative damage bonus whatever the STR value... Best, Ronnie
  17. I will send something as soon as I get off work. Thanks for all you do! Ronnie
  18. Pansophy, Do you prefer a paypal or pdf voucher? If the answer is PDF what info do we need to buy you a voucher? Thanks so much!
  19. Pansophy, One question and one request (if I may)... i am currently playing my first game ever of Magic World / BRP but in that game there are magic points which I don't see in your screenshots... Are they perhaps displayed in the powers section? Also in my Magic World game we have foregone rolling characteristics in favor of giving everyone a fixed number of points to spend. Any chance we could get that type functionality in your program? I would be happy to contribute a PDF to the cause if we can figure out how to do it! In any case wonderful stuff!
  20. Yeah me too. I started with RQ6 and even though it may be the best written book RPG I have ever read it was slow going with, from my perspective, lots of moving parts. Since I have read MW I have gone back to RQ6 and BRP and am making good progress. I recently ordered Delta Green and I am hoping that my knowledge of MW will allow me to run a game despite not having CoC (I don't require the game to have the exact right flavor as long as it's fun). We will see! Thanks to Ben (author of MW) and all the wonderful people on this forum that have helped me in my transition from D&D to a more enlightened system. I wish it hadn't taken 34 years :-(
  21. Whoops I just realized I replied to an old post. Keep up the good work anyway!
