  1. True, but, well I'm sure people have already seen my rant about those books ad nauseum. I think what annoys is not that they're rubbish because they've got lots of useful information in. it's just....how long would it have taken to edit them and make them compatible ? The magic book still doesn't contain errata thats been available for 25 years. It's sloppy. If Chaosium had asked nicely I'm sure that there are people here who would have done the editing for no more than an honourable mention ( I would have )
  2. The basic series of monographs were very sloppily edited...if indeed they were edited at all. Creatures also has the old RQ ratios for HP distribution for head, chest limbs etc etc. Ok it only makes for 1 or 2 HP difference but it's still annoying, and in my opinion very lazy.
  3. No offence taken at all. I think perhaps for those of us who have played BRP in form or another for a long time we forget how daunting the BGB must look to a newcomer. There is a lot of stuff there. And if I was seeing it for the first time I'd be thinking " maybe not " The key thing to remember is: most of it is optional the, ah, basics are pretty easy. I do agree about the layout though, a couple of times I've thought about something 'oh it must be in with subject X or subject Y because it's part of the same area ' only to find it's tucked away somewhere completely different.
  4. It appears everybody else has given up, boo hoo
  5. I'd agree, which is why why I was wondering if it actually might be useful to actually have one, people might start putting their tech heads on and start designing stuff. I suppose I was thinking of it as a tool or framework. But then, if thats the case we might as well use something like a gurps tech tree.....
  6. At one point RuneQuest ( the chaosium version ) was the other swords and sorcery game, especially in the UK and parts of Europe, but alas...well read Pete's history of runequest for the full story. http://www.maranci.net/rqpast.htm
  7. Various other games including some of the generic one ( GURPS springs to mind ) have tech levels giving or suggesting what sort of technology is available at various stages of civilization. As BRP can do everything from stone age to science fiction ,would such a thing be useful, or even possible for BRP ?
  8. It's better than trying to determine combat with streaky bacon though....
  9. Or if you went for a BRP version offer it to Nick for Uncounted Worlds Inspired by all this Golem related talk I ordered this: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Man-Made-Monsters-Patchwork-Homunculi-Creatures/dp/1601631367/ref=sr_1_4?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1294962705&sr=1-4 It arrived late today so I haven't had a chance to look at it prpoerly yet, but at a quick glance it seems quite interesting.
  10. Nobody else ? nobody got any little nuggets of news for us ? What about the God machine, that looked pretty good, perhaps somebody knows when Arghh Pirates ! will be out, hows about The merchants scale: I'm in the mood for some vine covered serpentine statuary. Is Interplanetary in transit or still stuck in the depature lounge at Marsport terminal 5 ?
  11. Perhaps he simply forgot ? I'm always saying I'll do stuff and it slips my mind, I'm so absent minded I've taken to writing stuff down....That aside we've stuff on Mythic Iceland and Operation Ulysses so we're on the way.
  12. Being old fashioned I prefer printed matter, POD is fine. I do buy PDF's and have a tendency to read them on my PC though I have printed some of those I've bought. Given the choice though I'd rather have some printed matter. As regards art, colour cover is nice though internal art I'm not to fussed about, if you can afford colour internal art all well and good, if not then B & W is fine.
  13. Armoured trains http://www.amazon.co.uk/New-Vanguard-140-Armored-Trains/dp/1846032423/ref=pd_sim_b_3 Click on the picture to get a bigger version and a look inside. As if Role Playing Games weren't geeky enough.
  14. Good stuff Mind you Arrgh Pirates ! was apparently submitted in 2009and we haven't seen that yet... One down, ten to go, c'mon chaps keep me informed or else I'll be forced to spend my money on books about armoured trains and CD's by obscure Polish folk bands
  15. mmmm.....see what you mean, problem is there are only so many ways you can say the same thing. If GURPS Russia presents a timeline of Russian history, then HQ/HW Russia presents a timeline of Russian history and then BRP Russia presents a timeline of Russian history odds are they're going to look pretty similiar......Because although the rules may vary wildly in how they deal with the material the background facts are going to stay the same. A samovar is going to be called a samovar in all 3 systems
  16. Why would creating overlapping source books be an issue ? Granted, the background material would be almost identical but the rules related stuff would differ, after all they'd be aimed at different systems. The reason I buy source books is because I don't mind paying someone else to do the work for me. Perhaps the solutuion would be some kind of cross licencing agreement, you pay for the rights to the background material, and change the rules crunch to BRP. Or we persuade Firebird etc etc to release their own BRP books
  17. Pretty please ! You can put me down for a copy, after all it's just down the road from the Amber Coast....what could be more appropriate.
  18. I was looking down the list of monographs/supplements a few moments ago and got to wondering if the various authors of the following could give us a sit rep on where things are, some I know have been submitted to Chaosium, any news on these as well ? Operation Ulysses Mythic Iceland Grimoire ( actually I know about this one ) Necromancy The Covenant of Justice BRP Mecha Interplanetary The Merchants Scale The God Machine Desolations Edge Arrgh Pirates ! Brave New World come on chaps, I want to spend my money on your books !
  19. Silly question, but wouldn't a non humanoid octopus man look like, well, ....an octopus ?
  20. I've got a volume on British folklore somewhere ( well, I've got several, but you know what I mean ) which contains a story about a northumberland farmer who gets lost at night, he takes shelter with an old man who keeps saying that he ( the farmer) should take the only bed in the hut, suspecting that the old man is a duergar and knowing their reputation he refuses, in the morning when he awakes he finds the hut is gone and where the bed was supposed to be is the edge of a steep cliff. There's another one somewhere else which also suggests that Duergar have glamour/illusionary powers, but only for malicious purposes EDIT: I think the farmer story was in Dark Fairies by Bob Curran
  21. Had a look at the full table of contents, what a lot of great stuff ! I'm curious about the Duergar, I take it you're going for the more folkloric version which had all sorts of glamour/illusion powers ?
  22. Joking aside I've never understood why they don't give the prize winner collections a full general release. The quality is generally pretty high...and what a great way of showcasing how versatile BRP is and at the same time saying to prospective buyers:' you could do this you know. ' If they paid everyone $25 for their entry and some sort of royalty I reckon they'd still come out ahead.
  23. Well, best of luck with it all. as you may of guessed I like The Green, makes a very refreshing change from your standard high medieval good elves, evil goblins blah blah blah setting. Back in the 80's when I first came across BRP ( in the form of RQ ) I enjoyed playing in Glorantha because it had a bronze age, wild frontier sort of feel to it. In some ways that's what attracts me to The Green. It definately gives off that edge of civilisation, keep your hand near your knife belt vibe. Even the civilised bits aren't all that far from danger and adventure. I really liked the whole Glyph magic idea and looking at it it's easy to see where extra glyphs could be made up. Indeed when you read the explanation of Glyphs there could be hundreds. I can definately see a smithing or metal working glyph being appropriate. As for totems, again only limited by which animals the goblins and other folks choose to venerate. There's probably a whole chapter on new diseases, parasites and poisons in there. So many of the places in the gazeteer are crying out for a fuller treatment. I like the Green because it gives you enough info to get stuck in and play a game, but nearly every page had me going " that's interesting, I wonder if there'll be info about that ? " EDIT: Hit locations, please include them.
  24. Well, Stuff I'd like to see would be: Stats for some of the monsters mentioned but not statted eg: the giant carnivorous tree frogs, the giant ( and bad tempered !) turtles that lurk in the big swamp in the SE corner ( as you look at it )of the map. the jaguars and so on. A list of which monsters from BRP core rules and Basic Monsters would be suitable for use in the Green and the appropriate kind of habitat for them. Stats ( including weird powers and magic ) for some of the Old powers mentioned. More details on some of the locales mentioned eg the sorcerous tower ( forget it's name ) with it's strange foreign sorcerers, so.... a map of the tower, who lives there stats blocks for the major inhabitants ,details of their weird magic and so on. Reading through The Green it's stuffed full of intriguing and interesting references and ideas that could be fleshed out. Quite apart from scenarios there's easily two more source books worth of stuff there.... More schools of glyph magery, more totems for the goblins and primitive tribes As Chaot said don't write for other people, write your vision of the Green and let others adapt if they want to, it's a great setting and I want to know more about it ! As regards the map : my print run has one and very nice it is too. Puck, it might be worth your while contacting Chaosium and mentioning that some books are going out without the map.
