  1. I don't think you should look at wyters as Bound Spirits in RQ terms. I think they are much closer to Allied Spirits. Wyters are much closer to the old concept of Landscape Spirits, from Hero Wars/HeroQuest, or, even better, to the Guardians of Hero Bands. They are the esprit du corps, the embodied spirit of the group. Ginna Jar is effectively the Lightbringers' Wyter on the Lightbringer Quest and She Who Waits performs the same role for the Seven Mothers. Where a Wyter is an animal, it is not bound into the animal, it is the animal. In other words, the Wyter manifests as an animal. So, in a Praxian Herd, one of the Herd Beasts could be the manifestation of the Wyter, or the Wyter could be unmanifasted and simply be the spirit that controls the herd. Among the Red Cow clan, the Wyter could well be a red cow. The Grazelanders could have Wyters that manifest as Goldeneye Horses.
  2. I think it's called "Marketing"
  3. When Players ask about Days and Years, I just explain that a Day is a Day is a Day, a Week is a Week is a Week, a Season is a Season is a Season and a Year is a Year is a Year. Really, that's as far as I go with this sort of thing. I have known people to say "Well, a 16 year-old Gloranthan is under 13 years old in real life", normally when it comes to marriage etc. my answer is just that a 16 year old Gloranthan is 16 years old and looks, acts and behaves like a 16 year old here, except is Gloranthan.
  4. Yes. The Kuschile Subcult teaches Horse Archery as a skill, for example. Potentially, yes. Barntar is an Earth rune subcult of both Ernalda and Orlanth, I believe. Daka Fal is an odd one, being Neutral to most cults, but, yes, that would make sense. The Kyger Litor cult has Daka Fal as an associate cult, or used to in older versions, so I can see an ancestor-worshipping Hero of Orlanth being both a Subcult of Orlanth and Daka Fal. A Deity can be a Subcult of another Deity and have a cult of its own. I think all the Thunder Brothers can be worshipped separately, but are usually worshipped as Subcults of Orlanth. Dorastor is a great place to play. When I was GMing Dorastor, Channel 4 had a late-night series of Japanese monster B--Movies, so the big monster invariably appeared in Dorastor over the coming weeks. It's the kind of place where absolutely anything goes. It depends on the power of the Deity. A Hero might just have a SubCult as the Hero isn't powerful enough to warrant an independent cult. Some Heroes become powerful enough to have independent cults. Some Deities have independent cults but are also worshipped as SubCults of larger Deities. For example, the Only Old One used to have a cult, but is now a SubCult of Argan Argar. Barntar is worshipped as a SubCult of Ernalda and Orlanth, but during the Lunar Occupation of Sartar, when the cult of Orlanth was banned, people worshipped Barntar as a main cult, with Orlanth as a Subcult.
  5. The RQG description of Extension says: Extension 1 Point Range (as per spell), Temporal, Stackable This spell extends the duration of any temporal Rune spell that has a normal duration of 15 minutes. The Extension spell and the spell to be Extended must be cast by the same person in the same melee round, and for all game functions are cast simultaneously. This spell and the Illusion spells are the only exceptions to the rule that just one Rune spell can be cast per melee round. What this says to me is that Extension is Stackable, so you can cast Extension 1, Extension 2 and so on. The table in the spell gives Extension 5 lasting a whole year. The Extension spell is cast with the spell to be extended, it is not stacked with the spell. This means that it can be used with other, non-stackable spells. That seems very off to me. It is a great shame that some examples weren't given in the RQG Rulebook about this kind of thing. Personally, I wouldn't play it like that.
  6. RQ2 had Spirit Pools, where the Spirit Plane and Mundane Plane overlapped. We used to go there to refresh Bound Spirits lost to Resurrection. RQG mentions them obliquely. RQ3 had Magical Landscapes, usually the scars of magical battles, where the divide between the Spirit Plane and Mundane Plane was very thin and things seeped through. They act as Spirit pools, to a certain degree. I play that Temples act as Spirit Pools, but only for Cult Spirits.
  7. I think that the boost allows it to punch through Countermagic and the like, but doesn't increase the strength of the spell. So, a Truesword backed with 20 MPs still only needs Dispel Magic 2 to remove.
  8. In our RQ2 Campaign, Soltak Stormspear bought a magical item from a fellow PC for 200 points-worth of POW Storage Crystals. In the same Campaign, Derak the Dark Troll had a leather jacket with "Derak" written in POW Storage Crystals. It really depends on the type of campaign you have.
  9. So while the commander of the militia is a woman, she's also literally the only female devotee in Sun Country She is a female devotee, so females can become devotees. How many devotees are there in Sun County? In Sun County, women are normally Ernaldans, so it is unusual for them to join Yelmalio, but they can. Vega is a Light Son, so is important in the cult. This shows that women can become Rune Levels in Yelmalio. I am not sure why that says that Yemlaio is misogynistic.

    Pavis!

Don't forget that, under Argrath, with Pavis knocking about, there is no substantial difference between New Pavis and Old Pavis, it's all Pavis. Most of the Daughters of Pavis were neutral to the Lunars, or opposed to them. so, those organisations loyal to them might be seen to be the same. The Merchants have the Trade Temple, which is largely independent anyway, in this case any Etyries influence will have been removed and any Etyries Merchants killed or sent packing. In any case, Traders trade with everyone, so they won;t mind Etyries Merchants. Scholars will be the same, but with Lhankor Mhy taking over the Trade Temple, at the expense of Irripi Ontor cultists. some spiteful Lunar scholars might try to burn down their annex, but I doubt if the other scholars would let them. There are some Pavis cults that might come out and support the Knowledge Temple. In any case, scholars are rarely seen taking sides. The Orlanth Temple will see a change in leadership, reversing that which happens in One High Priest too Many. Lunar sympathisers would have disappeared into the Rubble or fled into Prax. The Thief Cults would operate in the same way, as they have no allegiance to anyone except themselves. The water folk will just trade with whoever wants them. People will still need to be taken up and down the Zola Fel. They also helped Argrath on the Cradle, so would be friendly to the new regime. Nomads would, generally, be better disposed to the people of Pavis than before, due to Argrath White Bull. Previously, they hated Pavis and wanted to destroy it, but now, after their period of wanton slaughter, rape and pillage, they probably don't mind. Yelmalions are in a bit of a pickle, as the people of Sun County sided with the Lunars in the Cradle scenario and also generally. However, the Yelmalians of Sun Town, in Pavis, are different to those in Sun County and might escape retaliation. In my Glorantha, the Yelmalians of Sun Town are a different faction, opposed to Count Solanthos and trying to get their candidate installed as Count. The Zebra folk and other Lunar-hired mercenaries would be seen as having actively aided and abetted the Lunars, so would have fled or gone to ground. In the Zebra Riders' case, the Good Zebra Riders who supported Argrath are now in charge, with the Bad ones exiled or killed. The Night Watch would probably be OK, as they are just Trollkin and answer to the Constable of Pavis. I can't think of any more factions, off the top of my head, but have probably missed loads.

    Pavis!

That's what I thought I was talking about. The Trollkin Watch, Mani's Fort and Real City belong to Pavis and can still fulfil their duties under the new administration. once the Zebra Purge happens, the Pavis Royal Guard can still perform its original ceremonial duties, but with new Zebra folk loyal to Argrath. It depends how they play it, really. If they say "We were here before the Lunars came and are here after the Lunars left, we serve Pavis" then people might react well to them. The Trollkin Watch might have a problem, as they were introduced under the Lunars, I think. The Pavis Royal Guard was very close to the Lunars, so they would need to be purged and replaced with good Zebra Riders. But, yes, those who went to bed with the Lunars would find themselves dead by the morning.
  12. As this is a new thread, just about Spoilers, we can post whatever we want, can't we? In my opinion, Spoilers should definitely be used for fairly new material, especially when Scenarios are concerned. What is difficult for us oldies is where someone who has just bought the RQ Classic material to run for their new gaming group of Gloranthan Newbies, and expects Spoilers around things from Scenarios that have been discussed for nearly 40 years. I can't put Spoilers around every single thing from every single Scenario, or from every bit of information gleaned from nearly 40 years of Gloranthan usage. So, Bill, I feel your pain, I really do. But, for some of us, some things are ages old. I'ts like putting a Spoiler around "Luke, I am your father".
  13. Again, ha, ha, ha, ha! It's canon now for many people. If Chaosium produce something based on the same material that differs greatly from yours, I would be surprised.
  14. I would say so, yes. You can point to an illustration of a weapon and show Players what it looks like, rather than explaining it. Want to know what a dagger-axe looks like? No problem, go to Page 49. Want to compare spears? Page 55. Swords? Pages 56 and 57.
  15. Normally, yes. Alternatively, if the Character sheet has a section for Hit Points by Location, with a number, I just cross that out in pencil and write the current number of HPs and erase it when I change it. Some people like little humanoid charts with D20 Location/AP/HP and a box for the current HPs.
  16. The Lunars are fine with that. They can hire the Sun Domers out, as they accept Lunar gold. At the end of the day, they can send some Yelm Imperator nobles to the Sun Domers and make them kneel, if they need to. In my last Gloranthan Campaign, the Red Emperor visited the Praxian sun County and made a big show of displaying his "I am Emperor! I am Yelm" credentials to bully them into submission. That split them from Elmal, where Elmal was strong. They have always been pro-Solar, because they are part of the Solar Pantheon. Dara Happa is at the top of that structure and sun Domers know this, accept it and also, to a certain extent resent it. Count Solanthos has a habit of duelling Dara Happan Nobles, i.e. Yelm Cultists, to the death, probably for the same reason.

    Pavis!

None of those is really allied with the Lunars, with the possible exception of the Zebra riders, but they could be replaced by the Pavis Royal Guard. I would think that many of the organisations of Pavis are loyal to Pavis and tolerated the Lunars. When the Lunars leave, they are still under the control of Pavis and serve whoever is in charge, in this case Argrath.
  18. I would say the opposite. it is for beginners, as it approaches a lot of topics in a very straightforward, easy way. It is big, so maybe that is off-putting. I skipped through it at Dragonmeet and posted a short video of me doing so, on Facebook. Have a look at the Glorantha fans or RuneQuest pages for a copy. I have copied and pasted the Table of Contents, in case that is useful. Basically, it goes into detail about the Armies of Dragon Pass, with descriptions and illustrations of each Army Unit. That could be invaluable for GMs and those who want to get to grips with the forces of the area. It has a Unit Card for many of the Units, which is good for using them in battles. So, if you want to know the relative strength of the Colymar to the Carmanian Queen's Regiment, you just need to compare the Unit Cards. It goes into armour and weapons in a ridiculous amount of detail that is fascinating to read. It even goes into Magical Warfare and the effects of runes on the battlefield, something which, to my knowledge, has never been covered before. Overall, it is an easy to read, clean and beautiful book. I have only skipped through it, as for me it isn't the "sit down and read it from cover to cover" kind of book, instead it's something you can dip into time and time again. So, the stereotypical film SS Colonel is fine then? "I have to say, it gives me no pleasure to do this, but I must".
  23. Yes, thanks, that was new news on Wednesday, but I saw them on Thursday, so now they are old news.
