  1. We've got some in our RQ game and we used them for HQ and they make a surprising difference. Way back when, in our RQ2 days, we went on a HeroQuest, the rewards of which were a "Bigger Damage Bonus". It was a meat-grinder, mincer of a HeroQuest, but we all made it through to the end. With a huge grin on his face, the GM pulled out D6s which were about the same size as the D20s mentioned above, and gave them out, saying "If you roll your Damage Bonus with these, you can reroll 1s. How we didn't choke him to death by sticking them down his throat, I don't know.
  2. Ooh, thank you for pointing that out. I hadn't noticed that the Resistance Table stopped capping out at 95, but has chances above 95. That is a big, big improvement. In which case, the spell is not poorly written and works just fine. Either +5 POW or +25 chance, both work just as well on the modified Resistance Table. I wonder what other vast improvements they have slipped in without me noticing.
  3. It should reduce Movement Rate as well, unless the PC belongs to Yanafal Tarnils and has special curved blades as legs.
  4. That kind of thing is perfect for me. I hate whitespace, wasted space, artistic character sheets that are poorly organised and so on.
  5. In Sartar, Mon is the Enemy, due to the Lunars, so there won't be many general spells tied to the Moon.
  6. Since Chaosium seems to be hoovering up games at the moment, perhaps you could just buy Hasbro?
  7. Good examples of how this could work have already been given. There are lots of ways this could work, I prefer uncovering a secret that allows peace to be brought. Also, the HeroQuestor could find some secret thing that allows them to blackmail the participants into peace. One of the things that the HeroQuest game has taught me is the Power of Narration. I don't always need a mechanic to do something, I can just tell the GM why something should work and the GM can say "Sure, that works", ""Nope, that doesn't work", or "Sure, that works, but ...".
  8. It is poorly stated, as always. If I have POW 18 and cast Blinding 3 at a POW 6 opponent, I already have a 95% chance of succeeding. Does my chance increase by +50, giving me a 145% chance of succeeding or does my effective POW increase to 28, giving me a 95% chance of succeeding? Another poor description of a spell.
  9. I'd argue that participants in a Humakti Duel don't need to pay weregild, as the death was an honourable one under Humakt's rules. Of course, if the duel is to first blood and one died, that might be different, or if either party cheated, or if the loser's family is very powerful, or if the winner is disliked by the clan, or ...
  10. And welcome to Glorantha, where a discussion on Slavery ends up as a discussion on starvation and survival in Prax, for logical reasons.
  11. Sounds good to me. It looks as though you have got Character Generation about right.
  12. Yes, they are compatible. Countermagic/Shimmer/Protection are not compatible, but, by and large, Runespells that contain them are, unless they are stated not to be.
  13. We just had Resurrection costing 10,000L and was a debt to the Chalana Arroy Temple. Rune Levels saw the debt taken on by their cult. It was a lot easier back then.
  14. I use Excel, but I like blocky character sheets with things in tables.
  15. My Suggestion: 1. Have all these things as House Rules and give Yelmalio Shield as a House Rule
  16. Spells for cults are not about game balance. Some cults get spells that are patently useless for some people who follow those cults. For me, cults are not minimaxing things that you join to get the best spells for your PC. One good way of attracting converts is by showing that your spells are better than the spells they currently have, as not every cult has the same spells. Not sure about Shield for Argan Argar or Yelmalio, although both are spearmen-oriented. For me, if a spell isn't Common, what is the rationale for the cult getting it? If you use the RQ3 templates, then a War Deity gets Shield, so are Argan Argar and Yelmalio War Deities? Kyger Litor isn't but Zorak Zoran is. If Humakt gets it then so should Yanafal Tarnils, but does he give it to the Seven Mothers? Sword Sages shouldn't get Shield, in my opinion. As for punch-through spells, Humakt gets Sever Spirit and Truesword, Storm Bull gets Berserker, all of which are effective in combat. Why should Yinkin get combat spells? He's not a combat deity. Orlanth, maybe, but Wind Lords get Great Parry so can be good defensively.
  17. The ritual is fine, as long as you have repented and told people what you have done. I don;t think it should work if you commit kinstrife, then perform the ritual to purify yourself before anyone knows about it. I'd play that the character would be tainted in some way, but a HeroQuest could be performed to purify them. You would have to make amends as well, either by becoming a slave, replacing the slain person in some way, or financial penalty. You would also probably get Kinslayer as part of your name, which is rarely a good thing.
  18. Surely you mean "Oh dear, the top part of the book jacket for the Gamemaster Screen Pack must have been damaged in transit, can I have another one?" 🙄
  19. Or ask "Which are better, bows or slings?"
  20. POW can be gained by overcoming opponents' POW using a spell. So, of you cast disrupt, Fear or something similar, at an opponent and overcome POW on the Resistance Table then you have a chance to increase POW, up to the Species Maximum, 21 for humans. I can see where you are coming from. In RuneQuest, you go insane through magic (Madness, Luneshock) or by a magical effect (Hearing the Crimson bat scream, taking part in the Nights of Horror, seeing the Crimson bat appear for the first time). Just seeing a troll,, elf or broo won't send you mad, as you already know they exist. However, in RuneQuest, having a low POW means you are susceptible to opponents' spells and Spirit Combat. Having a low POW isn't the end of the world, but having a high POW is normally better. Not generally, but I suppose it depends on the context. If you are generating a PC for a one-off that you'll never use again, then this is a valid tactic, as you get more starting spells. However, if you are in a campaign, you'll get far more Runespells as the campaign continues than you gained at the start during character generation. For me, chargen is the basis of a PC, the interesting stuff happens as the campaign progresses.
  21. In theory, yes. However, for game play I'd say that it worked on anyone with Praxian ancestry, which could be almost anyone.
  22. In Revolution D100, Shoot Three Arrows at Once could be a Stunt that just applies a Penalty to the attack chance and allows all three arrows to be shot.
