  1. What's the difference between this book and Basic Magic? Will the upcoming Grimoire be compatible?
  2. Pg. 216 - 217 has solid chase rules. Similar to rules in Savage Worlds and Pathfinder. It's abstract, fast, and detailed enough covering a variety of situations. I personally wouldn't need anything more complicated for a chase. It would be fun to see a Vehicle Creation system with real world relative numbers, that didn't involve complex formulas or calculations. Vehicles have a total of 12 or so "characteristics". Toss in a system to determine optional components (things the vehicle can do or hold) and a way to extrapolate those 12 characteristics and I think it would be more than adequate for most gamers needs regarding vehicles. Maybe a unified "thing" creation system like EABA's Stuff but on a less complex scale could be fun. Creating everything from robots, vehicles to bases, gadgets, weapons, etc. I wish there was a unified power system (not necessarily "effects based"). I also wish there was a "special ability" system that created custom "traits" for specific applications or genres. I don't need a full blown advantage/disadvantage system, but a way to create heroic archetypes, or specialized abilities for a setting would be nifty. Overall, I think it has the right blend of fast and fiddly for my tastes...
  3. The write ups on the Yahoo Group are so damn intriguing! This sounds like a spectacular setting.
  4. Anyone know if the PDF has been updated to fix the broken tables?
  5. Awesome Issue! Loved the article on Stress. Sarah, your complimentary skills advice was inspiring, especially with the personality traits tossed in there! Genius. I want MORE of the same brilliance and I also want to contribute me thinks. Great work. Kudos.
  6. I missed it! Timing + finances didn't pan out for me. Damn.
  7. People always seem to leave an important factor out. What do the players want to play? All of these suggestions are going to fail if the group wants to play a bunch of power-grabbing sociopaths. If you nerf their power-grabbing antics, you could very well be ruining their fun. It seems your idea and their idea of what the game is about are different. The best suggestion so far is "talk to them". But that's not going to work until you know what you want from a game. Then you have to ask yourself, are you willing to compromise what you want to accommodate the group? Example: You want a gritty fantasy romp where the characters develop over time becoming legendary heroes of the land. Your players want to become the most awesome powerful characters of all time who can tame a dragon but with a thought and vanquish armies of evil beasties by flexing a bicep. Not perfectly matched BUT not horribly apart either. Maybe if the players are willing to be more "heroic" in nature you can more willing to grow them into the powerhouses they want to be? By making them awesome, they can be more heroic, thereby helping you accomplish the game you want? Otherwise, you have a significant conflict at the social level. You have to know what you want. The players have to know what they want. You all have to meet somewhere in the middle OR find like-minded people to play with. Sometimes people in a group need to go their separate ways in order to form a better group. Find players of a like-mind! If you think you can "force" or "convince" your players to want something is folly. They have to want it. If you all can get on the same page everyone in the group should enjoy the game better. Just my two cents...

  9. http://www.nbos.com/products/charsheet/charsheet.htm Check this out. Character Sheet creation software from NBOS! Once I have finished the GM screen, I will take requests and do a similar "poll" and see if I can't come up with a new shiny character sheet. I have also started hacking the Hero Lab software for BRP (from the C0C files). We could come up with a custom sheet in PDF using layers. Not sure how to do the layout-by-choice thing, but I will investigate, I am sure some programming magic out there could accomplish it. I will jump back in here and start asking for input once the GM screen is ready for review.
  10. Only had a chance to skim so far (just bought the PDF) but I am impressed with how you did powers. Reference the big gold book as needed interspersed with your new stuff. Brilliant! Also, on one book shelf (OBS), your product is classified as Runequest for system. Wouldn't you want it to come up in BRP and Basic Roleplaying searches? I would see if you can't add more categories or have the books primary category changed. With the monographs available on OBS now, being in the BRP category should be an advantage IMHO.
  11. The preview on RPGNow/DTRPG seems to missing artwork on some of the pages. It looks wonky, might need a touch up! :-D I am picking up this PDF tonight, it looks really good (from the forum posts, the preview didn't sell me right off, :-D ).
  12. Also, the equipment tables are missing letters. Completely hosed. Who can we contact to get the PDF updated?
  13. This is still in progress! A small side track prepping Eclipse Phase, but this and another BRP project (a "story game" plug-in for BRP) are on the plate!
  14. I need to order this. Working on a couple Eclipse Phase things, then back into the two BRP projects. I am using EP as written BUT I may just have to run Rubble and Ruin for a Game Day slot. Peoples love post-apocalypse!! PA in Vegas should be interesting... Resident Evil!!!
  15. I ran the game at a local game day. It's actually very VERY similar to BRP in many aspects. It uses a seperate pool of "customization points" that are used for traits, you can get 50 points from negative traits and buy upto 50 points in postive traits. All in all the system works so I am going to use the system in EP for EP. However, I am working on a "trait" system for BRP that brings what I want to BRP without point balance baggage. :-D I have to finish the GM screen first. :-D
  16. Don't do that! I am genuinely interested in your opinion. I am not a BRP grognard, just a general grognard. :-D So, your insights might inspire new insights in me. Discussion is fruitful, hence why I post on discussion boards!
  17. I want to create an alternate setting guide for Eclipse Phase, advancing the time line, adding in anti-gravity and FTL travel/communications, etc. I am pretty sure I can do a system-free update under the Creative Commons (what Eclipse Phase was released under) and share this for free with the world. :-D I want to use BRP with Eclipse Phase. I want to create character sheets, player references and handouts, and a conversion guide. Can I share this for free on the web? What are Chaosium's fan content policies? Secondly, could I create a conversion guide for my alternate setting for BRP and share this for free on the web? I appreciate your time!
  18. I have learned to despise all disad/ad, merit/flaw, systems. I hate feats. I hate anything that tries to create some arbitrary "point balance" that then turns all the players into "optimization monkeys" pining for the best combination of awesome fiddly bits that detracts from anything important going on in the imaginary world we're creating. So, I have been leaning towards BRP because of it's accessibility, generic approach (I like generic systems), and classic feel. Oh, and no ad/disad system!! I am getting ready to run an Eclipse Phase game set in the future of that setting with anti-gravity and FTL technologies, colonies, and a more Transhuman Dark Horror Conspiracy Space Opera thing than the default setting. But I want to keep much of the fundamental technology of the setting. I imagine there are myriad ways to handle "morphs". Generally, in the setting you have a cortical stack that records your Ego 84,700 times a day. If you get killed, they can recover this cortical stack and "re-sleeve" you into a new "morph". There are myriad types of morphs. There is all kinds of cyber and bio enhancements. I could use some super-powers in some form (which I am leaning towards) but there is much to be said about creating "templates" of these morphs so when characters re-sleeve they have some standard bonuses, penalties and abilities that are particular to the morph, not the character. I think morphs need to be defined as equipment. Frankly, the setting basically identifies all morphs (flesh, synthetic) as property. :-D I don't want to hack on the "traits" system from EP. It's a point based advantage/disadvantage system and I don't want this part of my game! :-D So, how would you handle creating morphs with BRP?
  19. I'm back in! :-D Working on the GM screen as we discussed earlier in the thread. Also have some other mayhem up my sleeve... :-D Here, for the recap, was the list of tables to be included with page numbers for the tables. Open again for discussion but know I am in the design process today, but tweaks are always possible! :-D BRP GM Screen v1 notes.pdf
  20. Adobe is your friend! :-D Do you have an XML or rich text version? You should be able to import that into InDesign to save some time if you can get into Adobe. Also, I picked up my version cheap at this online store; http://www.softwaremedia.com/ I am hoping they have the CS5 upgrade soon; I'm sure it's just a matter of time. I look forward to PDF release...
  21. Is there going to be a PDF available? I can't seem to find one on the Chaosium store...
  22. I am really starting to agree. There is really no reason to not have the player-facing side include tables to make look-ups easier on the players as well.
