  1. Yes definitely add Hittite and the occasional Greek name to the list, perhaps throw the Latin out altogether.
  2. I tend to think of Darra Happan & Pelorian culture being heavily influenced by the ancient Achaemenid Empire, the 'First Persian Empire'. However the Lunar Way has brought a lot of new influences, and I portray this by using mid-period Roman Empire (late Republic / early Imperium) military trappings for Lunar Imperial Garrisons. Lunar civilians tend to dress in ancient Persian garb, yet the Imperial Army presents itself very Roman-like styles at times. I would tend to go with more Persian sounding names ratherr than Latin, otherwise I would find a tendency to portray the Lunars as too Romanesque, and it wouldn't feel authentically Gloranthan anymore, the Lunars would be just Roman stand-ins. Having soldiers with Roman Legionarie style armour with exotically braided hairstyles and having ancient Persian sounding names tend to evoke more flavour than straight Roman copy-jobs. You could alway mix things up a bit by having Roman sounding first names, and Persian sounding surnames, or vice versa. Whatever works, I guess, but I wouldn't go overboard on Latin names like Marcus, Pontius, etc otherwise it will sound like you are just hamming the Romans up too much. This site may be helpful for names: http://www.behindthename.com/submit/names/usage/ancient-persian
  3. I never got to read BtMoM, and the costs to acquire such on eBay have been pretty outlandish, so I'ld be happy to see it in print again. And yes, any of these major 'grand campaigns' should be republished for CoC 7E to keep them a current product. I could definitely see KS for both of these, complete with add-on handouts etc
  4. Yes I was only thinking the same idea just yesterday I'm not overly fussed with HeroQuest having Glorantha for its default setting, as I just prefer having Glorantha strongly imbedded with the RuneQuest mechanics. However HeroQuest is a great set of scalable mechanics which suit settings that benefit from broad brushstrokes. Pulp Heroes and Super Heroes fit the bill for me, and I would love to see a HeroQuest Pulpworld or a HeroQuest Superworld.
  5. Wow ... both HQG and CoC 7E are some of the best looking RPG books around today. If RQ matches this these books then you'll make a lot of people very happy. However if RQ manages to surpass those books then it will truly be a thing of beauty.
  6. Oh so that's why the RQ Quickstart will be released mid year, as that's usually the time for Gen Con in the USA. So the RQ KS rolls out not long after that, I guess that sounds good, esp considering the books should be mostly finished by the start of the KS. Hopefully a quick turnaround time from crowd funding to print, it would be nice to finish the 40th anniversary off with new RQ books. I'm definitely going in for the slipcase version you were considering a while back
  7. I'm running MoN using Pulp Cthulhu 7E rules, I cannot see any issues yet, nor do I expect to. It constantly swings between Investigative-Horror and Action-Adventure, depending on what the characters are up to. So it's not all 'Two-Fisted Action' all the time, but when it is the pulp mechanics handle things pretty good. You certainly can notch things up quite a bit if using all the Pulp Cthulhu 7E options, but I think it runs best mainly around the lower end of Pulp, as some of that higher end use of Luck mechanics stuff is just a bit too 'splatty' for my tastes. Anything more than Low to Moderate Cinematics, and it would be getting into Wild Pulp territory. I don't think BRP hums well at that level; I certainly would prefer using HeroQuest in all it's hand-waving glory for that end of business! I also enjoy the creeping horror american-gothic flavour when I'm running games set in 1920s Lovecraft Country New England, so I definitely prefer running these with the 'Purist' rules. However I'm really enjoying pulping up MoN a little bit with the Pulp Cthulhu rules, it feels like these globe-trotting adventures was definitely meant to run this way. The campaign feels like a cross between Death On The Nile, The Ninth Gate, High Road To China, Raiders Of the Lost Ark, and The Mummy movies. Great stuff
  8. Yep I can handle RQ Quickstart + introduction scenario at June, that sounds quite reasonable But are we looking at an end of year for full release for RQ, or end of next financial year, so June 2018? If there is to be a RQ KS, then what is the ETA for that? (I need to save my clacks now if I'm going in for premium level backing)
  9. I think Pulp Cthulhu pretty much covers alot of the same ground for BRP, just add Mythos. I doubt that Chaosium would go over the same ground with a Pulp BRP release. However I would really dig a HeroQuest Pulp if done right, and some of the content of Astounding Adventures could be rehashed into that.
  10. Nice, I really like these...
  11. Oh, I have ideas ? I just don't have the time and probably lack the literacy skills to pull it off. Although it's certainly something I've considered. If I win a jackpot and my home mortgage is paid off I would consider leaving the ball-and-chain job security I have and pursuing something more creative. Until then, I'll just have to be content trying to inspire those who can!
  12. Okay i backed this - I loved using Harlem and the Cotton Club scene for one or two scenarios, and I really wanted to have more stuff like that. This book could be the trick!
  13. BTW does anyone know if there is to be a reprint of HQ2 anytime soon? I have HQG, but would prefer to see these rules without the Gloranthan trappings if possible
  14. It didn't seem to grab me at the time of release, and then I completely forgotten about it for some reason. Now all this talk of HQ has spiked my interest again, and this is definately back on my radar. The setting sounds like it is heavily influenced by The Dresden Files, which is great for a contemporary urban-supernatural setting, and very pulpy! HQ should work well with this. I will grab the pdf and see if I want to get the printed book at a later stage. Thanks for the reminder!
  15. I really like the HQG book, but Glorantha will always be the setting for the RuneQuest mechanics for me. Despite that, I do like how the HQ products are content-heavy; it is almost system-less, and makes it easy to port Glorantha into any game mechanics. I would really love to see the HQ mechanics running another setting. I could really see HQ shining as a pulp game, the handwaving and the ability to scale makes it a perfect platform to play Pulp. I think cinematic genres of Pulp, like Rollicking Adventure, Crime Noir, Murder Mystery, Action Hero, or even Wu-shu would be a match made in heaven with the HQ rules
  16. Ordered the slipcases for my two copiea of the G2G. It's great that previous purchasers of the G2G can buy just the slipcases!
  17. Yeah I was mistaken, that is the Cults book cover I remember, it was really cool. I think I must of been thinking of the RQ3 cover of the Lords Of Terror book not being as good as the RQ2 Cults of Terror book...
  18. Unsure how much of MRQ line is actually canon. In some places it certainly feels quite different from the Glorantha presented in the RQ2 supplements and in the G2G, but I guess it was set in a significantly earlier period of Glorantha's history. I remember that I quite liked the Cults Book, the Races books, and the Pavis Rises book.
  19. I know many prefer the original covers, although I prefer the second printing covers...
  20. I tend to prefer Fixed AP values for worn armour, using Hit Location rolls, as per RQ. However I also like the Shield rules from CoC 7E (Cthulhu Thru The Ages), where Shields have a variable dice roll for AP, it really keeps the Parry rules interesting. So a mix of both works fine for me!
  21. I would definately buy a book titled 'Arms & Armour of Glorantha', it would be like having an Osprey book patricularly tailored to Glorantha!
  22. Cool, I understand it's too early to lock in any official ruling on the Malkioni, but at least I'm on the right path with using swords from the Warring States period. I love these cultural idiosyncrasies that Glorantha has, its part of what sets it apart from many bog-stock fantasy worlds.
  23. Thanks for this post, I think it's great that we are able to see the cultural variations with weapons, it really helps portray the different ethnic backgrounds of Glorantha. If this post is received half as well as the post on Orlanthi architectural styles, then this one could kick along for quite some time. The swords you have posted here all look very 'ancient' to me. Would I be correct in saying that the Orlanthi swords are influenced from Mycenaean and Hellenic swords? I also read somewhere earlier on this forum that Western swords used by the Malkioni may be based on bronze age east-asian swords, such as swords from the Warring States period of China, like this one for instance: Is that still correct? (My troupe will be playing along the New Coast and I want the Malkioni to be portrayed vaguely consistent with future published sources on Malkioni. As much as possible, in any case)
  24. I wasn't digging the idea of another lampoon product, but I was pleasantly surprised after seeing this review. Especially since the reviewer sums it up with a line such as: " This book does not make Lovecraft funny. Rather, it makes Seuss scary. " Now this has got my interest
  25. From memory they are published by Sixty Stone Press, and I highly recommend these books for the firearms enthusiasts amongst the BRP community.
