  1. Or see the seven mothers cult each mother provides its own spell(s) but at the end of the day you worship one community of gods so for me it is more how you see these spirits. Do they share something strong enough to be seen (and they have to accept too) as a community of spirits? i mean a shaman should not create a community of spirits just because she wants one « rune pool » and one « worship day ». The spirits by themselves must be « allied » of course after lot of bargain sacrifice and heroquest, a shaman may create such alliance but at this time she would be so powerful that the reason would be more important than just have a personal advantage
  2. I agree however the question is why are there so few such "monsters" (etymological sense) would a lot of heroquesters prefer to "stay" with ther body shape (even if they gain the power) or does their rune resist ? or maybe this shape change occurs temporary, only when the hero uses the power ?
  3. Agreed then there are a lot ways possible ——- as a gm (if they wish) focus on roleplay and social interaction (some npc present in some party when pc were « checking » their skills/runes are in competition to obtain any benefits (job position, clan support for their heroquest, gifts…) of course npc win ——- As a gm use loyalty xxx. Loyalty today is used to augment rolls. And (unfortunately imo) represents the same level of loyalty between the two parties (clan/temple and pc) if pc focus on their « check » and don’t participate enough on their loyalty events then ask for a loyalty roll. If success it means the pc feels she is not enough loyal (reduce loyalty by 1d6) if she fails her clan/temple feels she is not enough loyal (reduce loyalty by 1d6) ————- as game designer define new stats about social interaction . Rqg reputation is not enough imo. For example pc’s loyalty to clan/temple and clan/temple loyalty to pc. when the clan/temple offers gain to the pc, she is allowed to augment her loyalty to clan/temple. When it refuses reasonable help/request she is allowed to reduce her loyalty to clan/temple when the pc helps the clan/temple or acts more generously than expected, she is allowed to augment the clan/temple loyalty to her. when she refuses reasonable request or doesn’t participate enough to the clan/temple regular life, gm can reduce the clan/temple loyalty to her With it split of loyalty Pc’s loyalty to clan/temple can augment skill rolls as the rqg loyalty the use of clan/temple loyalty to a pc offers some opportunities : - helps more than usual the pc - a score of xxx(60%) is required to become godtalker - a score of xxx(90% ?) is required to become rune lord or priest - a score of x1/x2/x3 is required to obtain from the clan 1 / 5 / 12 hides (or other clan facilities Of course it depends on the table and I prefer without rules and only roleplay but for those who loves stat and would have to manage players focus on their own power, that would help to balance
  4. differents options - as @dvdmacateer, that's for the devotee a metaphor : spells are arms/weapons - in mundane world, just a costume with two (or more) artificials (wood) arms, and mask, and lightning, and any attribute - in heroquest, each additional arm may be a companion (after all Humakt may be the sword) - after heroquest, it could be a physical transformation (you gain more real arms) - Eurmal's lie is powerful enough to convince you you have 4 arms but only two are visible
  5. depends on what "version" of chaos you think The compromise was between the Gods (of glorantha ? 😃 aka those who are not the second party) and the chaos Gods. So they are part of the compromise in some ways. Note that I was surprised by this information (I believed the compromise was between the "anti chaos" gods) but @Jeff said differently (of course I don't remember if it is in this forum, facebook or elsewhere) and it sounds interesting by the way how should we call the gods who are not the gods of chaos ?
  6. by default the dex/size ranks determine the order. That is not an action points system (well i would prefer an action points system but it isn't or it is house rule) as @Akhôrahil said, when you have opportunity to have severals attacks, you may be blocked by your strike rank
  7. there is no mention that bless pregnancy change the species (or sub species ?) so if the fate was enlo, bless pregnancy would just provide "better" enlo
  8. you are not trapped, you just leave the mundane world and can't freely interact with it (you need your worshippers to call you) However, if you leave the mundane world, it is to join the gods world. Another experience for you, for ever. Who knows what gods do in their dimension(s) when mortals are not heroquesting
  9. why not ? except in very specific society where you are by nature "guilty" then must "pay", I would say that people like to enjoy and organising enjoyement is part of leadership (bread and circus). I can't see Orlanthi, Lodrili, Ernaldan and Lunar not have fun or seduction. Troll ball is not only (if it is) ceremony. Even Sun County has competion (push shields - or the right english term - ). Dolphins play so merfolk should, same for hunshen I m pretty sure that even old Yelmic are able to have some "distant" pleasure in art or fashion
  10. i see things a little bit differently On the basis of my reasonning, there are hypoteses (from what I believe "canon", if I m wrong do not hesitate to tell me, with sources, to help me to learn more 🙂 ) A) evil (against morale) is not always chaos. Killing a mother and her young children is dishonnorable (honor as dragon pass) but not chaotic. and why not or any "bad" pantheon are not chaos. Black fang is not chaos. So your word @mfbrandi disturbs me a litlle bit, even if morale has an impact B) chaos has two meanings : 1) Oblivion 2) As David said, it is a form rune so chaos "is", so not oblivion. For example chaotic gods of corruption are not obliterating the world, they are corrupting it C) based on B, Oblivion is more a consequence, one among many -maybe the ultimate, maybe just one-, of tic activities D) some acts are seen chaotic by people but not always (ex: cannibalism) E) acting like/using chaos provides chaos taint, but not always (according to greg - first post of this thread) F) some secrets actions (not seen by anyone except the actor) summon chaos (ex: sun county, some village... I will not spoil) G) illuminates are not detected as chaotic (if they are) Of course they would being seens as chaotic for physical reasons...but it could be a wrong interpretation H) Storm bullers power sense of chaos is not reliable enough to prove chaos (from irl perspective) then I consider : there is a hierachy of "it is chaos so there is consequences" 1) world level: it is chaos because it destroys the world (Oblivion, corruption, ...) 2) community level: it is chaos because the community rules/beliefs/morale/ ... say it is chaos (ex cannibalism) 3) personal level: it is chaos because you believe it is chaos. Same that the level 2, except you did not convince (or have not yet conviced) anyone else it is chaos Then my personal conclusion: you acquire the chaos taint or you bring chaos curse * on you/your family/your clan/... because consciously (you know the rules) or inconsciously (you know the rules but don't keep them in mind) you feel guilty. If your feeling is strong enough, you get the taint (aka the % "according to Greg") or curse that may explain why Illuminates are / may be not detected: they don't feel guilty. So in a illuminated society, you are not evil guilty if you use chaos. You consider your society as morale. Now, let imagine I m right... Is Eurmal really "guilty" to have kill Grand father mor(t)al ? What if he detected this weakness in him (grand fater mortal and all his heirs are able to "create" chaos involuntary) Maybe he tried to "obliterate" this power/curse, but partially succeed (they "just die" but they reproduce themselves) * become an ogre (or/and your heirs), "welcome" a succube, etc..
  11. and even modern 🙂 of course there are a lot who collaborate and work for the global truth / knowledge however there are some who keep for them for glory, ambition or anything personal I don't know if it was the same every where, but french physicians and research teams controversies during covid did not prove that every scholar is collaborating (not because controversy, that's part of research process, but how these controversies were led)
  12. No issue David, thanks for your effort. I think our reactions show what needs to be clarified 🙂
  13. yes it disturbed me too years ago 😛 I think, and Greg's answers confort me - i did not know them, very interesting -, that gaining chaos taint is more because the "anti-world", "anti-law", "evilness" (don't know the most appropriate word) of the action/intent than how much chaos was already present. Not sure I m clear, sorry if not) thanks for that! Now we have runes, I don't know how it could be impacted (is it a % to gain 1d6 ?)
  14. it seems to me that walktapus biscuits don't taint you if you eat
  15. to be sure : does that mean there is no "sorcerer job position" in the cult ? but you may find sorcerers in the cult (seen as initiate, god talker or priest) I agree. For example, you are shaman of Yelm. You did the pact with him. You are seen by the community as a reference in the cult. You are seen by the god as a great worshipper (aka you get the powers of the priest) I disagree 🙂 For me your fetch is your fetch, it is not influenced by any entity you may worship. So let's say you are an independant (or some exotic spirit cult) shaman. People discover your lineage and you are allowed to join Yelm cult. You are initiate of Yelm and independant shaman. Now Why will you not seek to join Yelm as a great entity to make a pact with him ? If you succeed, you are now a shaman priest of yelm. If you fail (or if you don't try) you are just an initiate of Yelm and a shaman
  16. I m not sure but I m enough confident to answer this part 😛 calculate first the skill % with all the spells bonus, inspiration etc... then split the attack and the % for bonus damage, apply the bonus for all attack (no split then) so if your natural skill is 120% and you have +80% (bladesharp, rune , etc...) that means 200% => you split, you have 2 attacks at 100% and I checked, it is clear (I didn't remember) you must have 100% without magic if you want to split (p202)
  17. would say ernalda herself after all, trees grow where there is enough space water and sun beasts grow if there parents are able to feed them and as gods and goddess may have a different conception/manner of giving life I would say the primal instinct of Ernalda (subcult-mother) is more to take care of the living children. Having both attribute of lust and motherhood the only option she has is to choose what she wants (being mother or having pleasure and prevent pregnancy) Her body, her choice 🙂 I m like @JRE no need of any "named" rune spell or spirit spell, no need of any mp, it is part of the secrets women learn during their initiation. Is it magic, is it only physical, don't know ... and i will let it as a "mystery"
  18. that's a good point I will keep in mind. No reason to find everything in the only script you know. That could be a good requirement to learn other script if a LM (n)pc wants to learn a specific spell. Of course, once known (script + spell) few will spend (waste ?) time to make it easier for collegues 🙂 @Shiningbrow's Nochet temple seems to me fine too; So many people there ; probably some would like to have "permanent" students (lust power is part of the world, right ?) so creating internal "schools" of sorcery centered to the Master (oath of loyalty , and any other reason to give this temporal power) will be more "popular" if more intellectualy accessible. (Yes there are lazy scholars 😛 ) I understand, but they are some reason to let it easy (players who want to create, etc...) from a gameplay perspective. Even if Usually I consider that the rules are dedicated to the pc (runepool of 3 etc...) but in this specific case I would say that the rules must be applied to anyone. So 2.5 options imo : 1) create your own set of rule 2) follow the rules for everyone because that is rqg 2.5) follow the rules and wish that the sorcery supplement will provide more explanation / restriction / taboo / heroquest - heropower / anything Our gloranthas may vary then 🙂
  19. thanks @jajagappa and @Shiningbrow i didn't think about the bestairy ! there is indeed all I need 🙂
  20. I would like to create, following the rqg process an adventurer (human) initiate of ZZ. As I can't buy the rqg darkness cult book for some time, have got few questions: - is it possible to have the Cult Starting Skills ? - is there any specific restriction to join the cult (when your parents are or when you have no relative) ? (at least for a human) . In my FR "dieux de glorantha" or FR "Trolls", you need 75+ in any mace/hammer/... and a POW+STR test to become initiate. Which is hard to modelize with the creation process.
  21. don't see any restriction p274. Just read p275 to have the answer 🙂
  22. bah, for me the word is not so important what i understand is there is "One way of the warrior" shared everywhere in dragon pass. that's the important point. Of course I can build sect or any community following other values or even individuals, (ambush is fine for sect X, not accept a duel with a clearly weaker opponent for community Z), but the majority shares the same definition (list of values / good actions / wrong actions) by the way it seems to me that an humakti has no issue to fight against a weak opponent, if this opponent wants to fight. I would not call it honor (in my referential)
  23. that was my idea too However, the "canon" is that honor is the shared system of warriors values at least in the dragon pass. So that's not a question of race ( few trolls are maybe "honorable", however that's not the main value in troll society so we don't care) Not a question of cult : same honor between Orlanth and Humakt, but more important for Humakt cult than for Orlanth cult (that is important, but having just the minimum is not an issue) so the key word "Honor" is clear in the rule book (of course you may decide to change it for your game, just keep in mind that is not the official rule 🙂 ) but, writting this post I imagine something else, beside the honor passion : "(sub)cult XXX values " passion "homeland XXX values" passion then you can have what you want. That may answer my issue that a honor is not only, in my modern irl definition, just a question of warrior. A scribe may have a honor system where fighting means nothing (always tell the truth, never make mistake, pay attention to the script quality - graph, grammar, content, material -, etc...) in another hand, some would use "loyalty homeland", "devotion god" to express that. After all the god can be seen as what you should do to be "better" in another other hand (not chaotic feature, don't burn me, Orlanth has more than three 😛 ) you can too use the rune : your example about the truth is clear : that could be seen as your % in truth rune. so you/we have a large range of options after all creating more passions considering (remembering ?) the runes are like passion too using other "classic passion" like devotion and then your pcs would be compatible with other games, as you don't change the honor's meaning (but of course i don't see any issue to do what you propose, I'm just sharing another perspective 🙂 )
  24. for sure 🙂 however who owns the land ? who bless the crops in such farmer country ? who welcome the #### and give so much joy, and heir to build the future ? there are two perspectives: Orlanth rex is the cult which ultimately decides everything or Orlanth rex is the protector of the law, the one able to organize peace between clans, the one which decides about war and other "men" business. But even if, for a stranger the one in the Hall who seems strong and powerful , the one who tells all the decisions is the "king" (I mean Leika is the king too, that is not a gender/sex question here of the individual), the true power is behind the throne. And for some business, the "husband" will not challenge his "queen" if it is not very very important. Is the life of one guy so important to create an internal struggle, with maybe big consequences ? After all there is no smoke without fire *. And in all case if the guy was a good guy, now is in Orlanth all, without any issue, drinking, singing, dancing. Of course it depends on the victim, it depends on the Orlanth hierarchy, but people are weak, and if they can avoid internal issue, peace at royal home is better... Weakness and injustice create better sagas. After all a society praising wergild (somewhere innocent people must pay for other) is not a just society, so everything may be "acceptable", that is call reason of state clan I follow the second perspective, maybe it is not the canon, maybe it is, maybe both are non canonical because there is no canon here. I don't know * How I dislike this sentence ! and of course what I propose is not what I like irl, but what it may happen, but yeah I have a dark glorantha, even if there is hope in darkness
  25. Not sure that calling air for a earth business is the most appropriate thing to not create more issue. I would say that the storm voice would propose our guy to discuss with Ernalda priestess and let Orlanth temple away from this issue now I m not sure a lot of people would try anything. Even if they believe the poor victim is innocent, how many would try to defy a temple, with sacred warriors.. the risk is enormous ernalda cultists will not bless the fields bab’z warriors will be angry probably tears will give more compensation for the bloodline than call for revenge for the brother But that could create a true tragedy, this kind of situation creates hero, cursed hero as I like them!
