  1. there are a lot of options, some depending on your players more than the characters some are already described before the easiest ways : you start the adventure with a group of mercenaries (the pcs) hired by a merchant. Maybe the merchant is a true merchant and (s)he will drive the pcs to your first scenario start place. Maybe (s)he is not a true merchant and drive the team to an ambush. Maybe s(he) will die and let the pcs alone somewhere they are all drinking in a tavern (Apple lane) ? they don't know each others. there are not a lot of people, maybe just some farmers and a group of warriors. and there is an alarm : a chaotic monster arrived ! the farmers are too drunk to do anything, the warriors are to few to manage the demon, they need the pc's help. At the end... warriors are dead, Apple lane is safe, thanks the pc. now they know each others and fought a common ennemy the last option is a group of slaves (very usefull when you play with people coming from far far away, but warning I know, that people may have issue with such material) I found it in a french campagn years ago. you can even play a scene with each pc (if you have time, a different soloquest by pc means 1-2h for each of them but for you that means x 4) it will help every one to understand the mechanics and be the focus of their own adventure For example the grazelander noble quarrels with another one about a future wife (one or 2 passion then : love XX, Hate XY). in the night he is stunned and sold far away in Prax. The orlanthi warrior is outlawed then sold because he did something wrong in the clan (guildy or not, same give passions). The praxian is a victim of another tribe raid so of course sold in prax. And the Ernaldan refused to marry with someone, the grandmothers are angry, she had to flee with her lover. But her lover is a bad guy and after some days far from her homeland, he let her alone and she finished in the hand of some morokhant. They don't do a lot of bad things (Ernalda protection ?) but a profit is a profit they have to find a way to escape, once free they are maybe bound. And you get some hooks to future scenarios
  2. for a gm yes, maybe for a player, but imagine in glorantha. Do they know that people are "built" with /by runes. Do they know that this guy with dex 18 (3d6) is non chaotic but this one with 16 (6d6) is chaotic how can they know (if they have never meet before) if this guy whith a bull head is a minautor and this one is a "civilized" broo ?

  4. different options, but is it possible ? maybe the transformation "blocks" the birth until the crisis time is over ? if there is, you can imagine: - it is a strong wolf, a brother one, with INT. never change into human form, except with the runemagic => aka the wolf can become a temlori initiate - it is a werewolf baby, and it will get its human form just after the day, and will follow the standard. - it is a werewolf baby, and it will stay a werewolf, except with the rune magic - it is a human baby, as usual and it may gain or not (in any option) some chaotic feature and it may lost its mother (after all what happens in Vegas wildday stays in wildday)
  5. death is always an option 😛 from my perspective the player cannot do a lot of things if the character is possessed and alone but I see two open doors that a GM could propose : 1) resistance (never try but it may be interesting, don't know) : the soul try to regain her body. No spell, nothing else than its own will of surviving I would propose that every hour (or day, or 6 hours, or.. if you are a nice GM, you let 2-3 rolls before other pcs are able to do something) the pc roll her best passion score against the pow of the spirit. If succeed, the soul is able to "emerge" and you can play a new spirit combat. then the ouput: if the spirit combat is a pc victory, the pc is no more possessed if the spirit combat is a failure, the pc is still possessed, and the passion is reduced by 10. see you next hour / day / xxx if the passion roll is a failure, the passion is reduced by 20. see you next hour / day / xxx if there is no more passion (aka no passion > 49.999) game over the point here is to consider that when there is nothing to do normaly, only passion can give you enough energy to fight again. But if your passion betrays you, that means the passion is not so strong than you believe and the possession transform deeply the character, even after being "freed". 2) luck the easiest way for sure. no other pc is able to save the poor one ? not an issue a group of adventurers (with a shaman or a priest, how lucky you are !) meet the pc, detect there is a possession (shaman can detect it very easily) and save the character. maybe after a fight and some wounds, but that's good for the soul anyway. Who are these adventurers is another story. they can be friendly, or just interest by a ransom, or maybe a soul for a soul, I save you from the hell, your soul is mine, I will sacrifice you to my gods in x days (enough time for the others to come and save the pc)
  6. Hello all the , as other runes, covers a lot of things. I would like to explore the transformation power (shape-change for people and / or for object) If we don't follow water and Hykim & Mikyh activities, what could you advise as story or cult about such transformation ? for example, Gustbran "is able" to create a shape, but should it be possible for him to transform a sword in an axe. I see him as able to create and repair, but not (because his stasis rune) to transform something in something else. I may be wrong thoug. Same for Mastakos, I see his as a motion power, but is he able to change the shape of something ? Maybe earth light or darkness have some secrets about this too ?
  7. mmm what about an initiation during the play ? will you gain new rune ? what about a non initiate character ? no rune ? I would prefer to let it as a background point : you discover you have affinities (or not) with the runes of your god, more than you get points during your initiation
  8. bad day for the rqg rules, but I agree with you I would prefer that the rules says your birthday runes (day/week/season) must be at least X% one of you birthday runes must beat least Y% your birthday runes have no impact on your character but after all birthday rule is not a big challenge to forget on a table ^^ I will not claim anything about that in the next update of the corerules book
  9. From my perspective, during the battle there are some moments where you have to not be in the formation And sometimes... the phalanx leader would say "I love it when a plan comes together"
  10. seems to me that in Gorantha, a deity could provide a dinivation spell but if they could be able to pull down mountains (or just a wall) by themselves, they weren't a real god but maybe a demon, thanks to the compromise thanks you, by the way, you teached me something today
  11. Well if I start to speak like Jeff, the dumbest theory would be that all new publications will be in french only, it is time to put this world in a greater status😛 but more gloranthan.. Yelm is the brother of Orlanth lights up the lore differently (light, yelm, hum... poor joke) we know that Orlanth's uncles sent him and his brothers in some places to test them (or forget them ...) we have some names: the uncles were Magasta, Genert, Lodril, Dehore and Kalt the brothers: Vadrus, Humakt, Storm Bull, and... an unknown name, "the other one" lot of them are more or less kings of their elements. We think too that the uncles sent them because they were afraid about their future power, with one of these divine kids as the probably next leader of the world. now, what say the storm voices ? Orlanth and his storm brothers where sent by the uncles because they didn't want (or were jealous of ) Orlanth as the next king of the gods... They say then that the unknown storm brother was Ragnaglar. but that a very storm centric vision. Let see now the world differently. All of the gods sent are : the cloud (Orlanth) = water = Magasta's challenger the beast (Urox) = nature = Genert's challenger (after all what is Prax and the waste lands ?) the death (Humakt) = the underworld = Dehore's challenger the annihilation (Vadrus) = the opposite of renewal = Kalt's challenger the other one = ??? = Lodril challenger mmmmm Lodril's challenger... Orlanth's brother ..... next leader of the world.... Yelm of course ! Yelm was sent in the sex pit. Of course this guy had to fail the test, we know how squeamish he is (not sure for the word but you see what I mean...) see how sundomers are! So now we know that Yelm failed in the sex pit... we know that some people recognized him as Ragnaglar... That explains why the dara happan emperor is the only leader in the world welcoming both chaotic army and "loyal" army on his land, right ? what can we find more ? let say the great compromise is not only the separation between mundane world and gods world but something different. What if after so many fights between the gods, the gods themselves understood that if they continue the world would collapse. What if they decided to make a peace, a great peace. Yelm and Orlanth make peace. Yelm is no more the enemy of Orlanth. Yelm-ennemy-or-Orlanth part is removed of Yelm the god. Yelm-ragnaglar part is removed of Yelm the emperor god. for ever. Yeah that is the great compromise : the gods split themselve to remove their enemy parts. the gods split to remove their enemy part of the peace and the law the gods split to remove their chaotic part. The gods became the law gods there was no chaos god before the great compromise, only gods who fought against themselves, gods against the universe law. I let you find what is the chaotic part of the others maybe Humakt and Vivamort ? who knows ? could be, after all, vivamort was a storm god if I remember, a god who feared the death, who feared... himself so what is the great compromise ? the creation of the chaos gods Not convinced ? mmm see the runes the moon, the illumination, the good and the evil, the stasis, the peace... , half of the moon... coincidence ? mmmmm the redmoon is the goddess who refused to split herself, she was the victim of the net of Arachna she wants to heal the world .. to heal = to put back in place to heal the gods = to put back in place the chaotic part of the gods
  12. in addition, I would say bring what show your status, not what could be seen as an intent if it is weapon, weapon if it is armor, armor if it is a pet, a pet for example, in my perception a free sartarite will come with his weapon as every sartarite is a warrior. but if your weapon is a poor stick, don't come with it. a noble or rich warrior, will show how wonderful is his armor (so much gold, silver, crystals, etc...) when a mercernary will not show his too used armor a poor citizen will not come with a ugly street dog when a champion will come with this so powerful lion he succeed to tame

  15. this definition is a irl modern definition. a crime is something against the law, and judged by a court. a war crime must be judged by an international court i m not sure there was such notion in ancient age (well i m pretty sure there was not) there were practice one people would consider ignominous and the same practice would be accepted by another one and for glorantha, I m pretty sure that are not "war crime" - Intentionally killing civilians ==> purple bat, pavis plunder by praxians, pentian in dara happa - killing prisonners or giving no quarters ==> slaves revolt in redlands, pavis plunder by praxians - destroying civilian infrastructure ==> pentian in dara happa - pillaging ==> standard way of war in all culture in dragon pass - using child soldiers ==> what is a child ? at least you may use them for supporting warriors - using magic of mass destruction ==> just the hero war I think that the best way in glorantha is to follow Jeff's post about honour, shared by the different war gods (note that is not my favorite concept to have one honour definition for all the gloranthan people, I would prefer some opposition, but the canon is the canon, if I use something else, I will not share it as "the law")

  17. what I m not sure is if there is any non chaotic possibility to destroy a spirit. you can reduce its pow, but is it able to destroy it for ever ? I read somewhere (maybe not for glorantha, absolutly no idea) that when a spirit is at 0, it goes back to the "source" to replenish itself
  18. that is something I would like too, there are so many reasons to use it - madness spell and co, - violent fights and other scenes, - seeing the chaos during the Orlanth initiation quest - maybe in any heroquest (not mundane level). Seeing the true power of the greater entities must have some impact that may be a good option to know if an illuminate is in the light or dark side (yeah, for sure, some would say that sanity is just a mask, you must see beyond...) that could explain Argrath, Harreck, Red Emperor and friends decisions although their "good" goals and why Blackmor choose the lunar way, why Jareel choose to leave it, why non chaotic people start to worship chaos..
  19. yes that's why for me Eurmal the guide's role is "when other 'guides' have no answer (path for issaries, solution for LM, heal for CA etc..) then Eurmal can find the answer", my "understand the incomprehensible" spell in this way the "betrayal" during the LB quest could be seen as the only incomprehensible solution to move forward. Of course, as incomprehensible, other gods (and now worhshipers) don't understand it. They consider it as a betrayal, when Eurmali would consider it as the only illogical thing to do, without it, the quest would failed. E-ur-mal is like E-l-mal, the loyal traitor

As Eurmal found death and Umath is the father, we can consider that Eurmal is Humakt mother then it means that Lodril is Humakt brother, then...   21. from players gamers (aka we, outside of glorantha) yes they are people, more or less educated, more or less wild, but, as they can learn, speak, organize, etc, I consider they are people. the best argument for me is they are "complete" : they have all characteristics : STR / SIZ / INT / CON / CHA / DEX / POW I do consider that all complete beings are "people" now in glorantha, what could consider a troll ? an elf ? a lunar ? a sartarite ? it depends on the culture. Not sure a praxian will see them as people, but as vermin. but not sure a praxian will see a griffin (a speaking animal ?) or an elf (a speaking plant ?) as people. Until of course the praxian (the person, not the "people") understand more the griffin or the elf nature this local concept is for me important: you don't break a taboo/oath if you are absolutly convinced you are not breaking a taboo/ aout : when swearing to "not attack people", a lunar may not attack any broo when a praxian may do it without any issue we have enough (sad) experiences irl about the conception of people. And often, "we (a community) are the people" when others are not (until the others are not too much other)

I think that : - disease spirits is not a living creature, so a lot of taboos are not useful for them - CA cultists must heal people, so they have to eject disease spirit, they don't need to destroy them - if CA cultists are powerful enough to confine the disease spirit for ever, it is fine, event if it is not mandatory - if CA cultists are powerful enough to "heal" disease spirit (as a INT spirit, POW spirit, what you want) that is a big deal and a holy result
  23. I think so if there is a child, that's because Uleria and the priestess want it. I don't believe there is any IRL issue "oups I forgive something". From my perspective, no abortion concept is needed in any regular way, as Uleria is the goddess of all pleasures, with consequence (if there is a "something else" need) or no consequence (if there is nothing else need) If abortion is needed for a Uleria priestess that means (for me) chaos was involveld before, not as a consequence, but as a cause. And a big chaos power (curse, strong spells, etc...) to be able to challenge the maybe most powerfull god in the world
  24. a good idea another one I imagine is "understand the incomprehensible". the truth is LM domain, but what about not existing and not logical things / forecast but i don't know if this spell / power has any chance to be useful in a campaign ^^
  25. Of course it is a question of taste, time, and interest. My position is maybe based on my business and how I challenge my consumers (I modelize process) and every thing depends on the situation. the questions are "Why ?" and "For what ?". In pure modelization, I agree with you, going probably further. there is no one answer, there is an (several ?) answer by situation. If the gm is an algorithm and all the rolls are made by a computer, yes why not keep all the stats. When I tried decades ago to develop such kind of game, that was the direction I wanted to follow for one reason, you can roll (or determinate) what you want, it is few micro seconds for the gamer but when we are on paper, when each roll or each stat change is a human action, so time consuming, my taste is to say for what is this action, and in our case, for what is this passion score ? If background is important for you (and it is for me), you probably write something about this passion, it may a paragraph, a simple note, a full text, what you want, but it is. but the score ? passion 28% you can do nothing during the play. during a play session, you may raise or reduce it by 0-6 and still have a passion you cannot use. (I exclude the standard use case : you get a new passion at 60 or add +10 to your existing passion, because here it is the rules and it is impacting) during the "season" session, you will raise or reduce by 5, 10 or 20 (and I agree with you, time should affect passion) and still have a passion you cannot use. so how much time, 2 minutes, 20 minutes for all these "feelings", per person ? for me too much for too few impact in the play. In this case I prefer that a player tells the gm "hey you remember john doe ? we had a flirt during the last scenario The three next seasons, my character met him again, I think I can start a new passion. (love 60%)" or "you know, that's now 2 years I am far from XXX, and my character think about what is important for him, after his last heroquest, I m not sure he has still a loyalty to XXX (60%). Of course he likes them, but fight for their "honor" ? naaa there are other priorities. I propose to remove it" no need, for me, to put love john doe love 12% because he just kissed our character after the fest, and to discuss each season time if you add or reduce the % for john doe or the XXX loyalty of course some tables may have different taste, priority, some would be happy to spend time on a lot of statistics, I just say there are other ways to manage the same event (a flirt, a distance, etc...)
