  1. because using "creation" words like 'azarrffef aerd', 'zoe lfore aerd', 'dask edrers eresze' and 'sasderd eresze' for gloranthan crops (well I hope there are not irl words) and 'ughutu' for a big beast accepting human on their back, is more disturbing than using a irl word helping to figure something (the form, the character,...) even if we have to remember there are not the same. See for example the metals, we have gloranthan word (ur , etc..) but what do we use ? Does quicksilver armor float on our world ? I agree depending people the disturbance could be on one side or another one, just I think more people can play with the published option (except elf & troll, personaly, I would remove these words and keep aldryami and uz as they are so far from "fantasy standard") So I like to say "in Glorantha there is one harvest season, the earth season, because there are gods and the earth season is the season when grain goddesses give their bounty to people" then we are all on the same level, the one who doesn't anything about, the one who knows about irl harvesting, irl animals, irl metals, irl stars, irl seas, etc An example of illogic to challenge glorantha because irl (from my perspecive). There was a post about the number of D6 to describe baboon STR. That was not the good one because the ratio between irl human STR and irl baboon STR was not followed in glorantha. But... in this cas, how can we explain Baboon are able to speak in human language ? It is not possible mechanically (well I m not expert but that what I was in my mind) So should we accept a difference and not another one ? why this one ? why not this one ?
  2. I will encourage you to split your tongue, you will understand your mistake (no no no don't do it, please I have no money for a lawyer 😛 ) The dragon did not says what you wrote, but someting like ... "Ouroboros". that is not a question of food, but a question of merging Yes I agree with you. I m not sure there is any tomb with corps from EWF, but you may have tomb as place where you find artifact, text, etc.. No bodies, just "In memory of" stuff. And it is what I understand of your example: the tomb was before a "traditional" tomb, but became a place from EWF memories. The EWF did not destroy the previous burial (politic ? fear ? no reason ?) but tried to transform the goddess to a draconic one, so add EWF stuff and remove traditional stuff
  3. so do I the difference for me is a cultist of Daka Fal uses the runes spells but shares too: 1) the values of Daka Fal -what is good what is wrong - 2) the friendship and animosity with other cults 3) the belief that Daka Fal is the ultimate Judge. As I understand, Orlanthi ancestor cultists share 3), may share more or less 1) but not 2) I don't see Invisible god worshipers sharing 3) or 2) or even 1) (of course some values may be shared but not because DF, just because it is)
  4. Not what I previously thought but yes seems to me a nice answer (and very easy rule to apply). from a non runic approach, I would say undead are those who should be on death side and are not (if it could help hahaha) So people who were alive and are not anymore but did not "discuss" with Daka Fal. Then what could be a spirit (not detected as undead) for me : - a spirit by nature, always a spirit from its creation for ever - a soul of a dead, but a dead who was "welcomed" by Daka Fal, and sent by a god later to do something in the mundane world. Probably this last spirit could stay in the mundane world for ever. Note that I would play that, if the (dead's soul but already judge) spirit wanted to stay in mundane world when its god call it back, it would have to get undead or spirit (or chaos ?) rune
  5. wahou ! Where can I sign to have a shop there ? a room maybe ? just a stable or a dog house maybe ? Seems to me there was a wyter before the pc came and it would be a wyter after they will leave. Of course if there is no more community when the pc came, it means there is no more wyter. Or... less seducing than Uleria idea... what about the gargoyle. After all, who is/was the true leader of apple lane ?
  6. the easiest way is Orlanth (it allows the player to play the artist mask but can become something else ) Of course is the player has no issue to focus everything in danse, song and music, and let the others fights, at least at the beginning, Donandar is a good choice too (better ?) Donandar itself was described (with magic, etc..) in previous version of cults book. a discussion in this forum too
  7. there are some rules limitations (time, money, power sacrifice). You can join another cult when you are able to manage its restrictions in addition to the others. then there are social limitations (and society is played by GM , not only what it is said in the rules) and here it is up to you : Will the priest of the new cult accept to share with you the god secrets knowing you will not be dedicated to the god ? What is your devotion if you are already devotee (not rank, just passion) to so many others gods ? Same for the guilds... will you be allowed to do your job if you don't join the guild ? impossible because the law ? with difficulties (no one will supply you ? no one will pay you ?, some thug attacks ? more taxes ?) or not ? What status must you have to ... work (laymember ? initiate ?) , to own the business (initiate ?) In my gloratha (but our glorantha may vary) , it depends on the city and the business. When the business is important to the city , yes it is mandatory, when the business is exotic, you can do what you want. Note sometimes there may be two guilds/organizations for the same business (example in Pavis lunar weapon masters and anti lunar weapon masters, of course before Argrath activities) for the cities / clans, I consider every one in the community is lay member (including some time, money and pow/mp sacrifice depending on the location) Those who want to have any political role must be at least have an initiate status (1) except when the (sub)cult says you become initiate when you have already the role (2) (1) become initiate of Pavis if you want to become a leader (2) become the boss if you want to become Orlant rex initiate Note that I consider that a wyter could be seen as a subcult (or something like that) of the local god leader (Orlanth among sartarite for example) but when the "wyter" is a god (like Pavis) then you must be initiated to Pavis directly
  8. My understanding is you have to "reverse" (?) the point : most of "sorcerors" should have been teached during their childhood, as sorcery is too different of what I call the "standard thought pattern". Very few people, already imbued of gods and spirits knowledge and experience, would be able to break their vision of the world with these concepts. Maybe illumination would be an easy answer (for a gm/player, not for a character), of course other solutions exist but in all cases with a lot of pain (time, passions, ...) then if a cult like Issaries accepts sorcery users, for me it means that already sorcerers would be welcome as new initiates (of course with the same morale values than no sorcerers candidates, I mean I m not sure that someone known to kill people, by sword or by sorcery for few words will be welcome by Chalana cult). So, from my perpective, I would discourage players to change during the play to change their regulars initiates of XXX to weird initiates of XXX learning sorcery if they hope to be efficient sorcerers. When I say discourage, it means explaining how much time they would waste to 1) prepare their mind (before learning any techniques / runes, you have to forget what you believed how the world works) 2) learn the techniques / runes 3) learn spells at ~10% during this time... 2 - 3 -10 years ? they would not be able to do a lot scenarios. And after that, they will be able to cast a spell at 10% But for sure if it is for the story, without any efficiency goal, that s would be a great point. In that case, they would have to be accepted by any schools providing sorcery (same schools than to create a charater) For example the better option for a Sartarite would be to be initiated to LM, then convince the wise people that you are able to learn, then migrate to a big temple providing lessons, etc... Well in fact, for a Sartarite, the better option would be to convince (who says kidnap ?) a godless sorcerer 😛
  9. I m hesitating about the reaction I put: thank you @jajagappa for the effort to share it there or like what Jeff wrote To be sure I understand well the gameplay behind the background : does that mean that malkioni get the same "powers" than any initiate, but not because a god worship but because a "ancestor worship" ? or maybe a reduced choice of spells and they can only be "initiate" of a no-cult if they prove their lineage to this ancestor-no-god ?
  10. yes that was the previous version the old one. I only use english material to not have any more this issue
  11. when people have disagreement about what the god wants, it means at least one of them is in a wrong way. The god must say something to fix it (or not if it is its pleasure of course, don't want to challenge any god) in our case there are two levels: 1) the table what Chalana Arroy wants in your (generic one) table. That's up to the GM what Chalana Arroy PC understands and applies. That's up to the PC (with maybe some GM's help, to clarify what is heresy / blasphemy / wrong actions /... or not) 2) the canon what Chaosium defines as rules what Chaosium forgot and consider it should be fixed later, what Chaosium let open to GM, for ever @Darius West you surprised me with your examples (pregnancy, sex, etc...) I never faced this issue but for sure, if I were on the table and had to answer a player, I would need some time to imagine something. After thinking, the joker cards, as a white lady, you are blessed by your goddess : you and your baby (or partner, depending on what is the point) will not suffer or anything you imagine. The point is the intent (so it means no sadomasochism or activity like that) But yes I understand there are questions, and depending on people there may be difficult to propose an unanimous answer Now, should it be fixed in a chalana arroy cult books, and do the same for other gods It depends on how many people would like to buy and read this kind of work(so many gods, so many questions, so many pages to create) Probably not enough to sacrifice the rest, and even not enough to get a return on the investment seems to me this kind of questions should be answered in this forum (issue with those who don't know the forum or english, of course), with modesty (" I manage it like that" and not "you must manage it like that")
  12. See what I write as a heroquest: each station is dumbest that the previous one. I long hesitated to share with you this secret, but now, I cannot keep it for myself Step A: Observation Step B Research Step C Revelation Step D Big Revelation Step E The big prize
  13. Hi it gives me some idea for a campaign... Do we have her holydays ? and specifically when are the maize rites ? thanks !
  14. It is clear our glorantha may vary, so my answers are not a "challenge I'm right you're wrong", just a gentle share of perspective 😛 I say that as we (4-5 people ?) are answering and answering from to almost opposite postion ("big advantage with few issue" vs "big problem with few gain") Yes they are a tribe, but I (maybe wrongly ?) consider there are other "people" in the land or neighbourhood, humans, elves, other hunshens, spidres... Even with few relationship, there are relationship. For example, the "riskland campaign" shows that you (human) may create some relationship with the telmori. I agree you are able to "fix" it, but that is a curse too : you waste 1/7 of your time, chained to not cause problem, unchained and ... you don't know what happens. yes they are tainted, but (in my glorantha ?) I don't see them like ogres: ogres full time nature and "morale value" is to be "humans" eating humans and bring chaos (one interesting play could be ogres who try to fight their nature by the way, with all the issue they may have. ) Telmori nature is to be hunshen and their "morale value" is to have a beast behaviour, not a rabid wolf behaviour. As rabies is illness, Telmori 1/7 "power" is for me curse. no, no. I did not speak about Telmori hunting their cursed, but others (neighbours). Of course if there is nobody else than telmori (but there are in my glorantha) that is not an issue. I agree for the military impact during a war. It is a great advantage for sure, even if you don't know exactly what will happen, it will surely disorganize your ennemies forces, feared their people, etc... but there are war time and peace time. And the issue, for me, is the "curse" is during war and peace time. If you are alone no issue (but in this case, no reason to go to war), if you are not alone, well we already shared it Note that clearly, a pragmatic empire containing and dominating some telmori tribes may use them with all the interest you described. But the telmori themselves, in this kind of empire will be more or less chained (don't move from your "reserve" or I hunt you, chained your guys to be sure they will follow my rule when I don't need your power, etc...) in fact it is a worse version of Hulk or a "better" version of Jekyll and hyde. Personaly I consider both of them as curse : the sacrifice is very important for the power, even so great power. Big gain, too much pain to not call it a curse
  15. thinking about your answer, I get a new question ( your fault ! :p) does that mean characters should get a score in infinity rune like others runes ? does that mean the "illumination skill" is now transfered to this infinity rune ? or in both inifinity and "school" (light, dragon, ...) rune ? I m not sure of the consequences in this cases (seems to me that the inifinity rune represents more than only illumination)
  16. the curse is not the +48rp per season, the curse is you are not able to "play" with these 48rp the curse is you may find yourself somewhere you didn't plan. the curse is you may kill the boy who is your friend just because now you are not yourself (at least not the yourself of the other days) the curse is your neighbors never trust you because 1 / 7 of the time you will not respect anything and probably (try to) kill them on sight. the curse is you are not a human, not a beast, not a hunshen, just a monster the curse is you will be hunted all the week, even if you are the hunter 1 day per week
  17. i use no rune point for this chaotic transformation (but rp when they want to transform the other days) this transformation is, for me, part of their (new / cursed ) nature : like a windchild who can fly without any spell. they cannot decide (= cast) if yes or no they will transform
  18. don't see the word "Daka Fal" here as the god's name, god with a will, morale values, etc.. but more as a "yard" (where souls should go) and a "meta pattern" of rune powers combination (how to contact the ancestors) and you will not have any "association" issue. that's something I use with Daka Fal and any pantheon. As he is hostile / not friendly with about any god, I would have an issue to play a good worshipper of both a god cult and an ancestor cult. Splitting the sentient great spirit (god ?) Daka Fal and the "things" he represents helps a lot. From my perspective DF (the character) should not be contacted by the broos (and what broo will contact the one who will judge them in few weeks.. months.. years... for all their chaotic deeds ?)
  19. the question then... "when they were" ==> they were not broos but human ? beast ? or half beast half human, with a "standard" reproduction cycle ?
  20. could be great to add a waze equivalent : How much time today (season, ...) to travel to Boldhome ? of course you may find too : where are the lunar / tusk riders / orlanthi / bizon patrols ? is the road free or is there a traffic issue ? 😛
  21. that's sound to me that the lightbringers quest was not to save the world but to prove who are now the leaders : Air is always present Earth is always present Light is only present 50% of the time Darkness is only present 50% of the time Water is just boundaries between mortal kingdoms the lightbringers quest is not the true name of the quest, it was "bring light to reason", or as the wise stormbul said at this time "obey hot s##t ! "
  22. I agree with you about rune magic. Because there is another "contributor" , the god, and its presence is clearly felt by everyone. But the difference between LM sorcery and spirit spells is not so clear from my perspective. you need to add MP (with gesture, etc to keep the focus) so Orlanthi (not the cult, the culture) know that spirit magic could be long to cast. Now when orlanthi are seeing a LM sorcery spell, what are they seeing ? a wise person trying to decrypt a text or understand something (logician), locating something on a map (geomancy), and other stuff absolutely outside of their own understanding, but something accepted by their priests. Do they even know that sorcery is a different form of magic than what we (IRL) call spirit magic ? In the same way, Orlanthi have ritual (with or without any magic/real effect) to bless a champion, or a troop to go to war. that is not done in few seconds during a fight, but spend time before the fight. Will they understand, one day, that the western fighters have more efficient blessing, thanks to sorcery , but less "in fight" magic effect ? from my perspective, only LM and zzaburi (or zzaburi-like) would know / understand there is a true difference between sorcery and spirit magic. I even not sure that a shaman will know it, just note that the other one has weird magic she cannot understand, and don't see good spirits around them
  23. Any NPC (dragon included) may progress in my table. is it really a "dragon" ? how a gloranthan could know ? it seems to be... but it could be an exotic beast, adragonewt pet, a EWF experience... who knows ? not your PC for sure, but you, of course. This question may help you one day 😛 The potential issue I see is more if this "dragon" change the "balance" in your game balance between your players : if your "dragon" friend is defintly more powerful than all the rest of the group, it may be an issue balance in the campaign: if your "dragon" is able to solve too easily issues your scenario propose. At the end of the day, your players may be worried or frustrated, as there is no challenge. Of course, if your campaign and your other players are in the same move, that's fine. I've got an idea to "eject" the dragon, just in case the pc cross a magical road... a dragonewt road. The "dragon" may be disturbed but nothing else.. but the next morning the dragon gains 1 SIZ, someone would see it (roll scan) and the next morning ... let the owner roll a d10, on a 1, the dragon gains again 1 SIZ. On a 0 it gains 1 POW. after one season, the gain is 1D6, etc... your friend will be happy to become more and more powerful. now the dragon hears some sounds no one can here. It can not explain what are these sounds after two or three seasons, sometimes the dragon seems to suffer, is it the body transformation ? the sound ? or something more inside ? after a year the pet talks to the group (or the dragon talks to its pets : the pc): It has something to do for few days and don't want to share it each season it has to go, if the pc accepts, for few days, during scenario, or not. If the pc refuse, the dragon follows them but is demoralized and one day... the dragon (now big right ?) comes back... but not alone, with another one... (or if it cannot go, the other one come by itself) . And it introduces "dady" dragon who explains with a graceful jet of flame that it has to take of.. the pc gains a powerful friend, but lose a follower. Note that could be something different than a dragon, a wyvern, or anything, not important, some dragon kin. Something human cannot understand.
  24. yes absolutly, that why I don't consider it as a "proof" for any gloranthan scientist- well... is there any scientist in glorantha 😛 ? people believe this or this is chaos. Of course sometime it is obvious, sometimes not. back to chalana, that drives me to say that if a CA healer is not sure these "opponents" are chaotic, she will not try to "test" the hypothesis of chaos by hurting them
  25. a lot say that yes, and it is true, but for me it is not an evidence : a new storm bull initiate starts with 10-15% that means that 85% of the time the sense say nothing about the chaotic creature in front of the buller. Does the buller conclude the gorp in front of him is not chaotic ? I see sense chaos as a blessing to help bullers to not be ambush, or to detect hidden chaos. An help, not a decision, not an evidence
