Does Bijiif have the Fire Rune?

Does Bijiif, the portion of Yelm smeared with ash that sat and waited in the underworld, have an association with the fire rune?

Well, when Yelm descended into Hell, his fires scorched away legions of UzUz and Dehori, so he certainly had the Fire Rune then.

Did that act of scorching use up all his Fire so that he was left cold and dead? Maybe.

The idea of Bijiif as being the cold ashes left in the grate of a fire is an interesting one. Maybe the Spark Within died and is rekindled by the Lightbringers when they bring Yelm back. Maybe Yelm without the Fire Rune is Bijiif and Bijiif with the Fire Rune is Yelm.

the real question is: what are Bijiif's runes? does he have the Death and Darkness runes? He's a dead corpse that's been burnt. He's illustrated using precolumbian art of a death god that is a bundled skeleton.

When Greg was developing stuff he often drew the runes out of what he was working on. By runes, I don't mean the Thirty Core Runes, I mean the ones that connected with the mythology he was working on (i'd call them god runes). Many these went on to become Hero Wars era runes, or were never seen in publication. He often drew the rune as the head a stick figure you can see this the early Gods Wall drawings in GroY (IV-24). Although Bijiif is a pile of dust with a single glowing speck, I would imagine that this single speck is actually his rune on the Gods Wall (which is huge) and can't be seen in the Guide or GroY.

This God Rune would be a Combination Rune, like the Communication (Issaries) rune is a combination of Mobility and Harmony. God runes are only used in iconography or specialist applications.

Yelm gets the full fire rune.  Now remove the light rune from the fire rune.  Bijiif gets that central dot, which is what is left when there is neither light nor fire left, i.e. ash.

Clever.  What does that imply for the figure on the God's Wall that is just a dot over a set of lines?

Thanks,

David.

Didn't Zorak Zoran steal the dot from Yelmalio's fire rune? Zorak Zoran has fire magics, they're just more difficult to access than fire magics granted by fire gods. This implies Bijiif also potentially grants limited fire magics.

Yeah, ZZ stole fire powers from Yelmalio though, not Yelm.  Bijiif is the ashes of dead Yelm, not dead Yelmalio.  Everyone knows Yelmalio never died, he just joined Chaos and became either Krjalk or Tien/Thanatar (jk).
