  1. Er... This only works if you consider Lovecraft as a writer of 'cheap fiction'. I certainly don't.
  2. In that case you may want to increase the Wealth level of the characters. "You find a huge pile of gold coins... You may all increase your Wealth level by 1".
  3. Some of Brian Lumley's stories are indeed pure "Pulp Cthulhu" (the Dreamlands cycle); some others definitely aren't (e.g., the ones featuring Deep Ones).
  4. Indeed. I have thought about this, but there aren't any examples in the RAW.
  5. Unless you are still playing like we used to 30yrs ago, the players must be part of some kind of organisation. They could be rewarded in: -training skills -being taught spells -being given better weapons -...
  6. Sorry Nick; I reckon I haven't been very precise. There are indeed rituals in Basic Magic but they are merely variations on the various spirit or divine spells. I am looking for ideas along the lines of: cheers
  7. I am trying to add a chapter about rituals in my Imperial Chinese rolegame. Obviously Daoists were big in rituals, but the stuff described in the books is hardly frpg material... burning paper talismans, mixing the ashes with water, taking a mouthful of the mixture and spitting it on a possessed child-medium is not exactly "fun". So I looked at the BRP book for ideas about rituals and was surprised not to find any Same with Basic Magic. Does anybody have good ideas for rules for rituals? cheers
  8. OK, found it: quoit - Wiktionary
  9. I know my money is going to be well spent! What bugs me is the already-spent money that went into those lousy MRQ1 rulebooks  Is there going to be an MRQ2 Pavis book? For 2nd Age Pavis?
  10. I'll get a copy too. But after all the money I've spent on the silly MRQ I rulebooks, I do feel ripped off!
  11. Chimériades was simply FANTASTIC. There were lots of new French-language books for CoC, very impressive (high quality, hard cover, nice illos...). Charlie's BBQ was as great as ever! And I have finally understood HOW HeroQuest works!!! I think I do like HQ 2nd ed.
  12. A very simplified RPG would have no stats at all... Ooops, I have been illuminated by HeroQuest
  13. Personally, I read "Srules" -- but then I am told I am weird.
  14. Use props! Kids love props! (miniatures, tiles..)
  15. Yes, the Judge Dee adventures are absolutely awesome. Van Gulik wrote his first novel as a tribute to the historical novel Dee Goong An, which contains three intertwined cases, and he then kept this constraint for most of the following novels that he wrote. And van Gulik's novels are indeed very diverse, with detective investigations, philosophical digressions, fights, romance... I wish I could write adventures as good as van Gulik's novels!

  17. OK, OK... but I'm an old fashioned person, and I like to buy my books in a gaming shop (or at cons)! I reckon I'll save my purchases until USD125 then...
  18. Is this going to be a Chaosium monograph (meaning we won't get it in Europe )?
  19. There was a thread on the French BRP mailing list aeons ago on how best to represent Smurfs in a hypothetical Smurf BRP-based rolegame. Some people were in favour of scaling everything based on the smurfs, i.e., SIZ 3D6 for the smurfs; some others were in favour of using the RAW. I found it stupid to scale everything on 1 to 3 SIZ if all player characters were to be Smurfs... How could the GM scale anything?
  20. BTW why is the game called 'Dragon Lines'? Are you using dragon lines (the Chinese equivalent of the Western ley lines)?
  21. That would be similar to what I've used in my manuscript, but I'm looking for an English-language name. Apart from the fact that I'm looking for an English word, 'kung fu' is not even how the Chinese themselves call their martial arts. 'kung fu' means 'excellent technique' and can be applied to anything: cooking, medicine, painting, calligraphy...
