  1. Yes. Very fond memories. My first rpg game, the first experiences as GM. Happy days. Don't suppose I could get your signature on my copy of Elric by any chance?
  2. Remember the safety rules on the beach. 1. Wear sunglasses: the white pages can be blinding in the sun. 2. No sun cream. It'll stain the pages. 3. Stay away from the sea or the book will never be the same again. 4. Keep sand away from the binding, or you'll never be able to get it out again. 5. If possible, stay in a cool dry dark room, for full enjoyment.
  3. I signed up for Continuum on Friday. My first time and looking forward to it. Just looking at the travel arrangements now and trying to see if I can rope in a marte or two. Looking forward to Heroquest, CoC, BRP, RuneQuest etc and meeting some of the Legends.
  4. My group is not very adventurous when trying new games, so I'll probably get two copies, one for me and another for them as reference. I think I spent close to the value of EZ in p&p. If chaosium keep there free shipping, it will be worth it. There are other game lines I am buying the moment, but I'll see how I can juggle them.
  5. I'm using a Blackberry 8800 and its not working for me. It takes me round a loop, back to the first page. It's not too big, can you email it? I'll PM my email address.
  6. Drunk and Disorderly. The police and courts take a dim view of this when it involves teenagers. Shouldn't be encouraged.
  7. Jason, Thanks for the update. I'm looking forward to seeing alll this hard work in the shelves.
  8. There is a setting book/ pdf for Burning Wheel called Jihad, based on the Dune milieu. You can download the pdf free from the buning wheel website. Here: http://www.burningwheel.org/wiki/images/0/08/Jihad.pdf Might be helpful for what you want.
  9. I have not been keeping a close eye on this recently, but how many copies of 'Zero' have sold so far? Rust's is 235. Has anyone got a higher one? I was rather hoping that they'd be sold out by now being a limited edition. Surely there's more that 500 people out there passionate about BRP? Aren't there? I really want this to be the success it deserves.
  10. Respect to the man. Without him there would be no BRP RIP
  11. I've recently run RQ2 and found RQ3 GW ed RuneQuest Monsters and RQ Creatures of Glorantha very useful. I used RQ3 for refernce in terms of tactical options during play.
  12. I haven't read the whole thread, so my apologies if this has been mentioned earlier. The is a discussion on rpg.net discussing the Dodge v Parry argument. May be usdful. http://forum.rpg.net/showthread.php?t=377530
  13. There are some very insightful points comming out of this. 1. My secret fear of BRP dying unexpectedly has been outed. I seem to have spent the last 20 years waiting for releases that never happened or took too long. E.g. Corum in the early nineties. The postponing of release dates etc. 2. We're not getting any younger. I too hope to teach my 10 month son BRP but that won't be for a few years yet. 3. Hope for BRP in europe. Hope Chaosium realise this and get foreign language translations out quick. I seem to remember a post on the MRQ forum where some Spanish guys were asking about a Spanish translation. Get in there first. 4. As great as CoC is, it has limited appeal and it won't bring in as many converts as it deserves. 5. Chaosiums record with support doesn't bode well for the future. Will they do something different this time round? Rather sobering. I agree that getting young blood in, deserves a thread of its own. Not to keen on D20 myself, but I feel there are marketing lessons to be learnt there.
  14. From reading your posts, I am getting the impression that we are all quite experienced BRPists. Am I right? What do you think will take to make BRP appeal to the younger generations?
  15. Yes. I bought one when it first came out and by the end of the month I was gutted. Its lived in a lever arch file since then. Saying that I bought one on ebey recently on the basis it had all its pages and figured that if they hadn't fallen out in 20 years, they won't fall out now. Going back to BRP Zer0. Mine lives in my roleplay bag with wfrp2 and DeluxeMRQ but the corners of the covers are starting to suffer after a month. For a book this big, hardback is a necessity.
  16. Hmmm Too many free attacks for my liking. I agree that a good doge should allow you an opening, but the failure in a dodge will just allow the attack to suceed. Also, the enc penalties. This will depend on the base level of encumbrance that you carried when trained. So if you are a warrior trained to fight sword and shield plus chainmail, your base enc should reflect this and your trained skill is normal for your level of enc. Alternatively, if you are a primitive warrior with loincloth and spear, your normal skill dodge should apply to mirror that enc. Just some thoughts.
  17. I've done similar but left out Paths of the Damned trilogy, Talabhein, horned rat. Can you believe that Forges of Nuln is sold out in UK. The other two are readily available, so the print run must have been smaller to account for its rarity.
  18. I'm still in shock. Having bought Dark Heresy last Thursday and looking forward to the rest of the line, the decision just doesn't make sense. Sure they have had a bad year, but from what they've said to the markets its been poor sales of minatures LotR and losses in shops outside the UK. They cancelled this years dividend, so I expect that heads should roll. Still its nothing new from GW, they did the same thing in the late eighties. I have never been into their games and books before but became really excited about W40KRP. Its a shame. I pity the poor sods who get the sack after producing such good quality games. Nevermind. Been burnt twice by GW. Will there be a third I wonder?
  19. Let's be thankful for small mercies. Had Greg just been thinking of the money, he could have licenced it to D20 and to hell with it. Not that happy with MRQ but it is compatible to a great extent.
  20. "Comparative systemology" Brilliant. That's the kind of course I would have loved to study at University.
  21. I think that the real problem is that critical dodges and parries do not allow any advantage against standard and special successes. I saw that in MRQ (for) a crit combination) a crit parry can riposte. In BRP crit dodges are wasted on normal successes. I have studied some Iaido and done some Kendo and Aikido. In all these Tai Sabaki (body movement) is very important. It allows to move in and out of range of an opponent and strike at the same time as he strikes. The defender simply sidesteps, the attack misses and the defender attacks at the same time he sidesteps. This is an example of a dodge creating an opportunity for an attack. Similarly, I was taught that every parry is an attack. The difference is that in practice we do it short to meet the incomming blade, but in a real situation, the defender would parry the wrists of the attacker, severing them. In addition we were taught how to follow every parry by a strike, as the attackers sword has been safely deflected and unable to strike again or block the defenders attack. That's just my take on this and something I may houserule into BRP.
  22. In my RQ game, I have allowed Hero Points as used in HeroQuest. They allow the following; 1. Bump up the success level of a roll (once). 2. A re-roll. 3. Buy 10+ base chance in a skill at nil. 4. 1HP is equivalent to 1week of training. Players can save them up and training can happen in the background rather than during the game. 5. Regain D6+6 hit points. 6. Anything else that might seem appropriate at time. 7. Change story a little. It's working ok but needs refining.
  23. Ha. Merak Gren's secret identity in RPG net has been discovered.
  24. I got my copy last Tuesday. 115 of 420. Much bigger than I anticipated and covering so much I'm not sure where to start. This book should have been printed 20 (ahem) years ago.
  25. Currently playing WFRP2. Have GM'd RQ2 and HeroQuest recently. Played a bit of Conan and D&D 3.5 before that. Had a gap for a few years which was filled with Balders gate Icewind dale etc (only reason I bought D&D books) and occasional Axis & Allies. Have played some Dragon Warriors and gmed RQ3 after uni. Uni was RoleMaster, Spacemaster, D&D2 and a little RQ2 and LARP. In school. It was WFRP MERP RM CoC AD&D1 and I gmed Stormbringer, Hawkmoon, skyrealms of Jorune. My first game was Stormbringer and without it I doubt I would still be playing.
