  1. Nope! You're quite right. That is a historical error from the AH book, curse my sloppy research. But I've updated the pdf so I think we might have got away with it without anybody noticing
  2. Not being thick, me missing a vital bit of info... http://www.aceshighrpg.co.uk/download.htm
  3. Extraordinary People - The James Younger Gang A small freebie taster download. Hopefully one of many more to come. Meet the James and Younger gang, a notorious gang of Outlaws that rained havock on seven states between 1868 and 1882. Learn of their violent lives, fight beside them or, if you dare, against them! Read details of the firearms they used, learn the skills of a Bushwhacker, see what True Grit truly represents.
  4. No it doesn't, BRP lends itself to grity 'realism' really, really well. Having just said that TMNT or something like Palladiums After the Bomb would work well. But I think the problem is that all genres have been covered. What BRP needs is either a new genre or a desirable (and probably cheap) license to an existigng work with a recognisable background. Maybe Iain M Banks Culture, David Brin and Uplift. Although something else, something older like John Carter of Mars by E R Burroughs would be interesting.

    Age of Arthur BRP

Why not call it 'The Age of Uther'. Uther Pendragon is King at the time Cornwalls trilogy starts (haven't actually read it, just looked at wikipedia) and Uther is a much better name than Arthur...
  6. Well I've cast my votes. But I have to admit there was a lot of stuff I've never heard of. So my votes totaled about 4...
  7. Grim Prairie Tales... sounds intriguing. And then I did a search on google and came up with the Vacuum Vagina! You trying to get me in trouble :-)
  8. I got this off amazon for 4p (plus postage). The picture and sound quality is terrible but I've seen worse... and it's a brilliant story so worth watch! Have you seen 'Valley of Gwangi'? http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0065163/
  9. Howdy, and welcome aboard! The way I understand it is... you have two different things going on here. In the alcohol example the Potency of the alcohol is Active and the players Con is Passive (the alcohol is attacking the player), this is the same way poison works. Easy. In the arm wrestling example both wrestlers would probably make a roll as Active (while the opponent is treated as Passive) and the one who succeeds by the most wins the arm wrestle.
  10. I've got a western, but I don't know if I want to trim it and submit it for this or expand it and put it up for a monograph.
  11. Thank you and welcome aboard. I see you've already found the Wild West chases thread. Some heavy hitters in there offering some sound advice, don't think I could be more specific myself. Personally I tend to run my games with 'relaxed' rules, they're guide lines. If the situation demands a train robbery I'll offer the incident with appropriate rolls based on how hard or easy I want to make it. I would probably give my players two or three chances to fail! A ride roll, followed by a jump, followed by a luck roll if necessary. If they fail the ride they can't even catch up with the train, if they fail the jump roll they throw themselves off their horse, if they fail their Luck roll they land on the track... Don't think I've seen the War Wagon, I might have to check it out... Are you talking about Quick Draws (p230 BRP)? I had a parallel set of rules which we dropped for the AH book because they were very similar. Rather than use the Spot skill, I used Insight. Which I thought represented seeing the intention to draw rather than actually seeing the draw. However, the Quick Draw rules in BRP work, I have no objection to them and most characters have a higher Spot skill than Insight. But then I can be quite cruel when I'm running a game... If the character has the Fast Draw skill (p16AH) or you are using the Shoot from Hip option (p17AH) you might want to give them a bonus to their Dex for the BRP Quick Draw. Basically, if you want to do it... do it!
  12. Redskins! Redskins is a bad word, and I used it exclusively with almost no thought. Or rather, I thought it sounded cool and wanted the AH book to 'flow' so I found every instance of Native, American and Indian (and any combination) and changed it to Redskin, but I have been told it is offensive. Which I think I understand. However, having never seen a real american indian, other than in movies, I was treating them like a mythical race, like a wendigo or an ogre or some other fantastic race. But they are real, and understandably a bit touchy about this kind of causal thoughtlessness. I also have to point out that it wasn't my intention to be offensive... but that's not the point. Oh well... Live and learn, I wont be making that mistake again! So, there wont be 'Redskins' book but there might be a 'Skinwalker' book at some time in the future.
  13. Ooo yeah! Well life has been rather exciting recently:) My freebie thing is about 90% done, and it has kind of pointed me in a direction for a much larger campaign, scenario, thing. This is about 10% thought of! It does include a couple of new critters and some other new stuff though... Spirits is something I would love to expand on but having been accused of being a rascist due to my poor choice of words I'm going to treat that with a lot more thought...
  14. Thanks for all the nice stuff you guys are saying! And I'm glad you enjoyed the game Trif, makes it all worth while. Cjbowser said 'but no free blacks?' No, nonono. Blacks get two extra occupations that non-blacks do not get access to (ok, so its two slave occupations...) because Blacks also have access to the Cowboy and Outlaw occupations. I made enough contentious mistakes, you can't lay this one on me as well :-) High Plains Drifter is spot on. It inspired the Drifter NPC class, and it's one of my favorite westerns, but there are lots of others that went into the mix. I did originally try this as a 'straight' western but over time I found it lacked something, and so I tried to get a CoC parallel. Sort of, on the surface everythings 'normal' but when you start digging, then you find the weirdness. I found that a lot more interesting, but you don't have to use it. I found running a couple of straight sessions then chucking in a gribbly kept the players on their toes. I hoping to finish a little freebie thing some time soon, I'll let you know when its done amigos.
  15. Not sure how much detail you're after but I found these links helpful. Timeline - The History of Guns Rifles and Machine Guns About.com: http://www.silcom.com/%7Evikman/isles/scriptorium/firearm/firearm.html
  16. I think the trollkin is winding up for a massive headbut.
  17. Yup its there, dead tree and pdf Fractured Hopes now then, where's my credit card... oh actually it says "...in stock on Wednesday 28...". Drat!
  18. Thats nice! And that one reminds me of the Water Margin tv show from the 70's, thats a good thing btw! Water Margin - Wikipedia
  19. Excellent! I can't wait. Just what I've been waiting for too.
  20. I've always gone by the idea that a parry skill is seperate from the weapon skill. Goes back to my RQ days. So you would have a long sword attack skill and a seperate long sword parry skill, and a seperate shield parry skill (opening up the possibility of a shield attack skill too).
  21. Excellent work Rod! I'm glad your project is coming together.
