  1. Hi and welcome to the site. No problem. Feel free to ask any questions. If they have been answered elsewhere, someone will point you to a link or will answer them again. Nothing is too obvious, some things appear really clear to writers but are not clear to readers.

  4. They can. Kuschile is available as a Yelornan subcult, the same as for Yelmalio. I've got a HeroQuest about that.
  5. Land of Ice and Stone is for the Old Stone Age, c40,000 - 30,000 BC. Other supplements cover the same sort of thing. Griffin Mountain covers Balazar, with Votanki being stuck in the Mesolithic, but with some Neolithic things (Raising of Pigs, for example). Gloranthan Trolls are sort-of primitive as well. I can't think of any more, at the moment.
  6. The Lightning Bands from Plunder are made from tin. There is a Tin Feather in the extended Plunder that gives control of storms or maybe thunder/lightning, I can't remember. in RQ2, Tin was the metal of the Storm Gods and was the metal associated with Storm. It changed in RQ3, but I am an RQ2 boy at heart.
  7. A Lay Member is a casual member. You want to go to a temple on a Holy Day, but they won't let you in, so you drop the cult a few coins and get a badge to get in. You want to go to the Market but they won't trade with you, so you become a Lay member to be able to trade. That kind of thing.

RuneQuest uses a very similar game mechanic to Call of Cthulhu, in that you have Characteristics and Skills, you roll skills on 1D100 and so on. call of Cthulhu could be viewed as a cut-down version of RuneQuest. HeroQuest is a different game entirely, although it shares some concepts with RuneQuest. Everything is a Keyword, or Ability, you roll Keywords/Abilities on 1D20 and generally compare two rolls in some kind of contest. Keywords can be as Narrative as you want, which is a great strength and a great weakness. generally, HeroQuest is a fast-flowing, very flexible game that can probably be used for any genre. Both games have been set in Glorantha, as both were designed for Glorantha. There are many d100 settings outside of Glorantha that are for different rulesets that could loosely be described as being variants for RuneQuest. HeroQuest had had official supplements in Glorantha, Mythic Russia and modern settings. The new QuestWorlds will hopefully open up a lot more settings.
  12. For me, anyone with authority can bind a Trickster, they just have to know how. Orlanth knows how, because of Orlanth. Waha knows how to keep the Trickster at bay, because of raven, he just uses Sun hawk to drive raven off. Yelm might know how to contain trickster, because he has powers of harmony. You just need some rationale or a myth as to how a deity controlled Trickster. Of course, you could always have an unbound Trickster, as not all Tricksters are bound. I don't know of any publications. However, the Salmon Leap can be used to jump up small waterfalls, so a HeroQuest based on that should be possible. In my Glorantha, the Cult Secret of Waterfall Cults is that every Waterfall has a secret cave hidden behind it, including The Skyfall, so it might be possible to access the Secret cave in the Air behind the Skyfall, if your HeroQuest goes on a strange tangent. Yes, they can survive, but they would need something big to latch on to in order to feed. In your Glorantha, why not? Yes and no. Kin Slaying is partly through blood and partly through clan membership. Technically you could be guilty of kinslaying, but you could argue that he belonged to a different clan and so was not technically kin. That's what Lawspeakers are for, they can interpret law in these odd situations. However, the Lunars could well accuse you of kinslaying, if they found out, just to cause trouble or to get you to do things for them.

  16. I like the idea of accidentally moving from your Library into Lhankor Mhy's Great Library and then having to get back again. Slipping between two bookcases, or moving between stcks of precariously-balanced scrolls would be a good way of doing this. The quitetest Storm people. Lhankor Mhy's Libraries have doughty Serpent-Amazons whose menacingly-hissed Ssssssh is enough to freeze the blood of the bravest of Sages.
  17. Lay Members are casual members of a cult. They have not been accepted into the cult properly. For example the washerwomen of the Sun Dome temples might be Lay Members of Yelmalio, so they can enter the temple, but they won't be full members of the cult. Lhankor Mhy only teaches cult members, so you pay to become a Lay Member to learn skills and so on.
  18. At the risk of looking retro this almost looks like a "sorcery plane." No, no, please no! Although, you do have a point. Such a thing might be possible, going from one node to another and back to a different node. But, no, nothing like the Sorcery Plane. You go from a Library, through a magical door, or the pages of a book, to another Library, avoid the Dangers of Lhankor Mhy's Library, find another doorway, inkstand or book and go to the destination Library. Nothing sorcery about that.
  19. L-Space must be a thing in Glorantha, where Librarian HeroQuestors go into a Library, emerge into Lhankor Mhy's Great Library, go into another part and emerge in a different Library. It's a form of Magic Road to go from one Library to another. It can also be used to travel to the Libraries of other deities, for example Buserian and Irrippi Ontor, but that is more dangerous. Obstacles faced might be: Leaving through the wrong annex and coming out in a different Library Being chased by hostile Temple Guards who think you have broken into the Library to steal Knowledge Allowing some creature through the cracks to start eating books Seeing so many books in lhankor Mhy's Library that you just sit down and start to read them all, forever trapped in the Library until you starve
  20. Is it? 01-09, 11-19 and 22-29 are not Advantages, which only leaves 10, 20-21 and 30 as Advantages, 20 4 in 30 or 13% Advantage. That is between the 5% chance for a critical and 20% chance for a Special in RQ and slightly more than the 10% chance of a Critical in Legend or Mythras. Yep, that's right.
  21. On the subject of Lhankor Mhy and Buserian being the same entity, what about Buserian's Star lore? That seems to be a particular thing for the cult of Buserian, they are star-gazers and know an awful lot about Celestial Lore and Star Lore. Does this carry over to the Lhankor Mhy cult in general? My feeling is that Buserian is an Aspect of Lhankor Mhy, the Aspect of Star Gazer, so Buserian Temples will have a lot more knowledge of Celestial/Stellar Lore than Lhankor Mhy temples in general.
  22. In Small Gods, Terry Pratchett discusses why sausages and bacon are the best sacrifices to deities, mainly because they come from dead animals, have a pleasant smell that wafts up to the Divine Realms and the Priests can enjoy the cooked breakfast afterwards.
  23. For Basic/Simple combat, you add Might as a number, so this does 1D6+3. However, for Advanced Combat, you add Might in D2s, so 1D6+3D2. To further complicate things, there used to be a rule that changed nD2 to a certain number of other dice, rather than rolling lots of dice, however,m I can't remember if this made it into the main rules.
