  1. Best game related movie ever! And if you don't believe me I will strike thee with my mighty blade. Rod
  2. I'm not going to argue with your main point because I'm thinking about reducing the spell cost of the various "blasting" spells for Sword & Spell for this very reason. But I just want to point out one possible error in your above example, If I am reading it correctly. Everything is correct except the example INT 13 wizard would still be able to get the spell off in one round because a 4d damage magic missile spell would be 4 spell levels, not 12 as I think you're implying. If I misread, you I apologize. Edit: Actually, I'm not changing it in Sword & Spell as much as adding an option to this effect. That way, those that are thinking about picking it up to add some new spells to their BRP games will find them already balanced with the ones in the core book. Carry on. Rod
  3. Thanks, I may take you up on that as I have nothing lined up yet. I'll let you know when I get closer to the layout stage. Rod
  4. I just freed up a little time and should be able to do a little writing again. Playtesting has pretty much slowed down except on the local level until I can be sure I have the proper time to take all suggestions into consideration. I will add you to the list for later though. PK Games, if you read this, your first on the list as well. Rod
  5. I hope it will be by summer, but I cant even tell you when I will be able to get back to writing it. Hopefully for a few hours on Monday as I have it off, but after that I don't know. As do I. We'll see what I can do. At the very least maybe a free downloadable PDF at the time of release. Not a word count, but page count is limited to 200 from what Dustin told me. Rod
  6. Hey Morfiend, Sorry I'm only getting back to you now. Work is very busy and I hardly have time to even check the forums, which is the problem actually. Chaos & Catacombs is still being worked on, but slowly. If I had to guess I would say its about 75-80% done. Heres an update. New name is Sword & Spell. Chapter 1: Introduction Done: 4 pages Chapter 2: Character Creation Done: 39 pages Chapter 3: Skills Done: 9 pages Chapter 4: Spells and Spellcasting Partly Done: 20 pages, The rules are laid down, just have more spells to convert. Chapter 5: Equipment Done: 10 pages; May add some more stuff if theres room, but the basic stuff is all there. Chapter 6: Spot Rules Done: 20 pages; I personally like this chapter best, it covers everything from disbelieving an illusion and listening at doors, to marching order and tunneling. Chapter 8: Monsters Mostly Done: 47 pages; Just have more monsters to convert. Chapter 9: Treasure Nothing done: Will have typical treasure tables based on the monsters toughness, based in part on the rules in RQ2. Chapter 10: Possible Sample Adventure Nothing done: This will only be included if space is available, and to be honest, there probably wont be. The page counts noted above are with 10 point type and unformatted with no art, so do not represent the finished product. Being a monograph, I will have to lay it out myself, which I have never done, and provide artwork which I either have to do myself of find some clip art for commercial use. I wish I could give you an estimate on its release, but unless work changes in the near future I have enough time to but pick at it. One final note, the playtesting is going well and while it has itself slowed down, the comments have been very helpful. Thanks for your interest, Rodney Leary
  7. Thanks Sarah, Merry Christmas to you as well. Merry Christmas to everyone here on the forums, hopefully real life will slow down and I can get to be a little more social, as well as get back to my own project. Rod
  8. Hello Leon, I would like to playtest your upcoming monograph. I'm in the middle of writing one myself though, so I may not be able to be as vocal is you may like. Rod
  9. My brother has been running a Fallout campaign that he started way back during the BRP playtest. We are playing out the water chip quest from Fallout 1. He ad libs a lot of it on the fly because he is so knowledgeable when it comes to the Fallout setting so he doesn't have loads written up, but I believe he has most of the Fallout critters. I have to say its one of the funnest BRP campaigns I have participated in. Rod
  10. Just about everything I do with BRP at the moment is a conversion of some other game. I say post em if yah got em. Rod
  11. Yah, but I heard those Marylanders were a dangerous bunch. Rod
  12. Wait a damn minute, you don't throw around a statement like that without supplying more info. Its my favorite setting. Spill it. Rod
  13. If I remember right, Gamma World's "Temporal Fugue" instead made duplicates of yourself by pulling copies out of the time stream. But it has been a while since I read it and this would have been 1st and 2nd edition, it may be different now. Rod
  14. Hi Jarulf, I just sent you a private message, in case your like me and never notice them. Rod
  15. With information this accurate, we should be able to intercept that truck. Rod
  16. Wow, thanks spawner of amphibians. I never expected this much info. Rod
  17. Thats my feelings. Plus, one of my players is a horse owner and a little more detail would make her happy. Rod
  18. I most definitely was not signaling out anyone with my comment and was just making a blanket statement, and whether you agree with me or not is totally your right. Rod Edit: Damn it. This was my 100th post? I wanted it to be something spectacular.
  19. First let me say... My name is Rodney Leary... and I'm a TFTer. Ok, now that thats out of the way. I think the release of 4th ed. D&D is a good thing. I was co-owner of a hobby store before the release of D&D 3.0 and while role playing games were still being sold, they were only about 33% of our business. New people just weren't getting into the hobby. Then D&D 3.0 releases and we literately sold over 300 copies of the player’s handbook in the first 3 weeks. This big name rpg re-infused the hobby, bringing in a literal ton of new players. D&D brought them in the door, but eventually, they get board and want to see what else is out there. With the increase in RPG interest we saw increases in Call of Cthulhu, GURPS, WOD, etc etc. This is a choice time for BRPers. Renewed interest in the hobby as a whole is a good thing. Don't attack a game they love and expect them to flock to BRP because it’s better. If something you love is attacked you tend to attack back out of respect for your beliefs. Instead, use this opportunity to talk about BRP and what makes it different (and better). For example: D&Der: My paladin is 15th level. BRPer: The game I play doesn't use levels. D&Der: How do you know if your character can kick another characters ass? BRPer: Just like real life, two boxers don't have 'levels' floating over their head. One kicks the others ass because he's better. D&Der: Well you could gauge how much better one is then the other because of how many experience points they have. BRPer: Oh, my game doesn't use experience points. D&Der: .... BRPer:.... D&Der: Then... how do... you get better at climbing walls and stuff? BRPer: You don’t get better at climbing walls by killing goblins, you get better at climbling walls, by climbing walls. D&Der: You got an opening in your game? Like I said, I think this could be a good opportunity for BRP. Rod
  20. Very nice, I would pay money for something like this. With your layout skills have you thought about doing a BRP Monograph? That's going to be the real sticker for me when I get to the layout stage of Chaos & Catacombs as I only know how to use Word. Anyway, get that Middle Earth book done, I'm excited now. Rod
  21. Thats awesome PK, I even reference Doritos and Mountain Dew in the introduction. Rod
  22. No, I don't want to do that, just about every game from the era I'm trying to represent had that little ampersand. Dungeons & Dragons Tunnels & Trolls Villains & Vigilantes Bunnies & Burrows Chivalry & Sorcery Swords & Sorcerers (an expansion for Chivalry & Sorcery) Might & Magic (Computer Game) These are just off the top of my head. I think there is room on the shelves for another game with an ampersand. Rod
  23. I went with the automatic 100% skill roll for clerics just like RQ2. Mages still have to study their way to greatness, but if they find a spell book with 5 spells they don't yet know, they can now learn them starting at INT x1%, but no POW sacrifice.
