  1. Why eat turnips when there are cabbages, onions, carrots, beets, gourds, lettuce, olives, and egg-plants. I notice that tomatoes didn't make the new world veggie list, tut tut 🙂
  2. It's stats are Latin, +5 Mythos, -1d6 SAN, and it contains info on producing an Elder Sign. It was produced by a Spanish monk of the Inquisition taking the confession of a certain Mad Castro who had been condemned to the Auto da Fe. It is unstated, but the Madman Castro may well be either a relative or the same man as the Old Castro referred to by Inspector LeGrasse in the Bayou raid in HPL's "Call of C'thulhu".
  3. As above, plus the SAN loss for seeing the actual nightgaunt (0/1d6). I would probably allow anything related to Nodens to provide a measure of bonus too as Nightgaunts serve Nodens, and if they think they are doing their master's will, they will oppose the binding less.
  4. Well, while the evidence is a little sketchy, I think there is a good chance that both Jaldon (who let's face it, is decidedly weird), and Sheng Seleris, both fit the unpleasant character description of the children of Androgeus, and the names and associations need not suggest different characters. Also, Goldentooth is a sobriquet of Jaldon's.
  5. We have no clear info about who Jaldon's parents were anywhere. What we can say however is that he follows the pattern of heroic power and destructiveness common to the children of Androgeus. Remember that IRL Siberian shamans are often trans-sexual, and I notice that you aren't arguing that Sheng Seleris could be a child of Androgeus, so why not Jaldon? Androgeus may be a god-level shaman like Sheng.
  6. Orlanthi are less "change" than "movement". The rune covers both. Mastakos, the current holder of the Mobility/Change rune actually has Meld Form and Proteus abilities in the forthcoming RQ:Gods of Glorantha. Sartar and the other Larnstings were mystics of Change who would use transformation to turn things into other things, such as Brangbane's clan of obnoxious Orlanthi into Ghouls, and Tribes into a Nation.
  7. And a minute later he would change his opinion.
  8. Yeah, about that, I reckon 2 gods separated by that amount of distance winding up as the same god smacks more of godlearning than mere syncretism 😞
  9. I feel contact buzz drunk just from reading this 🙂
  10. Wrong rune buddy 🙂
  11. Apparently Artmal is Tolat's nephew and together they defeated Umath, and Tolat gifted the Red Sword to Artmal so Artmal gives his worshippers True Sword.
  12. Borderlands is a classic setting for introducing players to RQ. Risklands by comparison is where high level characters go to die.
  13. Ceteris paribus, the RuneQuest: Gods of Glorantha advanced copy offers the following: Berserker, Dismiss Fire elemental (S & M), Summon Fire Elemental (S & M), Summon Demon (S, M, &L). Alkor gives Cremate Dead, Artmal gives True Sword, Anilla (Shargash's sister)gives Absorption, Hastatus gives True Spear, Lodril gives Fire Spear, Oslira gives Bless Crops (Rice), Yelm gives Sunspear.
  14. Remember that most of those clans will be feuding, possibly for generations, with at least one other of those clans. It is more like a political rally involving opposing political parties imo. If there are 10 clans in the tribe, and everyone is an enemy of one of those clans and possibly tense with others, but the tribal structure is being used as a means of limiting the conflict, the hospitality of a Tribal King can be sorely taxed, and every arrangement is likely to have been seriously discussed by the various clan representatives the month prior to minimize the chances of conflict. This is a nice family friendly affair that can turn into a rival biker gang death match at a moment's notice.
  15. Yet they allied a little earlier to plug up Magasta's Whirlpool... Alliances shift quickly during the Hero Wars.
  16. So we are assuming that the Godlearners were performing their HQs at the Sacrilege level?
  17. Just wait until the mud brawls start. 🙂 Agreed. So basically you now have multiple groups of political rivals all parked within a stones throw of each other, and trying to wheedle each other into deals. At best you could describe it as a mustered army, but the level of discipline likely isn't up to that standard. At worst it is a security nightmare scenario waiting to happen. A single dropped lamp...
  18. Look, if you want to engage them with a tribal moot, it might be easier than that. I hope, for example, that you have provided them with a stable of friendly or related NPCs who could potentially choose to be involved in the moot. If, for example, they are warrior types, they can be rounded up by their chief or King and told that the Moot needs extra guards and they are being "drafted" (for some small pay of course). This potentially means that they will have to break up brawls, shut down romantic rivalries, oversee transfers of treasures, oversee duels at dawn, catch thieves, catch spies, catch assassins, stop raids, guard the granaries, mind the herds, run messages, etc. Unmarried characters may face family bullying to acquire a partner. Families may also potentially want to buy livestock, and will choose their times carefully (Early moot to pay premium and get the best livestock, late moot to buy the worst but cheapest). Their temples may have jobs for them to do as well, such as delivering covert messages, guard duties, politics. No priest gets the job because they are an idiot, so the task will be measured against the initiate's skills. If they aren't much for talking, they won't get political tasks for example. It should also be pointed out that this is a time when potentially the characters might be recruited by another Clan in need of more weapon thanes. All through the moot, you should mention how the fresh bunting and flowers gradually get more dirtied and wilted, and that the fair melodies of the minstrels gradually becomes a din of competing songs, and the streets of the Tula are turned into a slop of mud, even over the cobbles, and how the garbage begins to pile up, and slowly but surely the latrines begin to be filled and stink, but not to overflow. You can entertain them with a conversation with a latrine digger who will explain the logistics of the count of heads versus the number of latrines that need digging to a given depth, and how the latrines are never put in the same place 2 years running etc, and how Tribal moots keep them in coin.
  19. The logical place for an Egypt-like place is in Prax on the Zola Fel river. It is distinctly likely that during God Time the society of the region was Egypt-like all across Prax and the Wastes. Perhaps no pyramids per-se (unless you count Tada's High Tumulus), but plenty of big statues and unusual ruins. Consider that Gorilla City may have been effectively a settlement worshiping Babi (Egyptian god of Baboons, not the "how is babi formed" meme). In many ways the Praxians are now nomads living in the ruins of those civilizations, in much the same way that Bedouins occupied the ruins of Egypt and brought their way of life to the region after the Byzantine/Roman occupation of the area. In Glorantha we have the Lunar Empire acting as the occupation, but at the limit of its expansion and logistical capabilities. I am seeing parallels here.
  20. Oh, absolutely correct stadi. I was merely posing this as all C'thulhu campaigns have a first adventure, but not so many make it to their conclusion, and starting investigators will be diving for the iPhones the minute the danger starts.
  21. Colymar are more organized and larger than most clans, I suspect. Tribal assemblies are an ongoing headache for the hosting clan, as for all the opportunities they bring, the hosts have to provide justice and hospitality, and that often means they lose out economically.
  22. I find it humorous that my copy of "Cthulhu Now" is 30+ years old. There are no iPods, let alone iPhones. At least when you go to the library there are computer catalogues and photocopiers though. As to mobile phones, yes, yuppies have them in their cars I hear. On a related note, remember Buffy the Vampire Slayer? How many Buffy plots would be unworkable in an age of mobile phones? The answer is of course "plenty". As to horror, well, the question of whether Sadako from Ringu made the transition from VHS to CD to Windows Media emerges? I know people who no longer own a VHS player and you cannot find a betamax player for love or money these days. Imagine if Sadako had gone beta? LOL. Contemporary horror is often set in places without cell towers or with bad reception, as the whole "just call the police" response is strong in players. I actually know of people who get jumpy when they have less than 2 bars on their phone (even though there is no system for what the bars mean at all between phone companies) and get spooked and uneasy when they lose phone reception. Modern Horror is not the same as it was.
  23. I wonder if future sorcery rules will have a ritual application where sorcerers working together can share a portion of their Free Int with the ritual leader. Notionally you are able to share half your Free Int perhaps, but the sub participants are each able to sub-perform the same ritual as well, so you have apprentices feeding free Int to the adepts who in turn feed Int to the Sorcerers, who in turn feed int to the ritual leader, leading to some large power large duration spells.
