  1. Mostly MoL is MC with the Gloranthan stuff taken out. No critters in the Legend core rulebook that I remember.
  2. I thought this was the BRP site? There are plenty of other sites offering discussion on D&D that would benefit from your thoughts.
  3. I'd say Roll20 was a much better tool to be honest. It has none of the 'open a port' nonsense I've had to deal with in the past with Maptools. AFAIK the work you've done would be just as easily used in Roll20 and they have a system for monetising your work by selling a package of maps and tokens bundled together.
  4. I seem to remember Newt saying that there might be a CR update in the future but RoH is where the focus is now.
  5. It hasn't got anything but spirit stuff in the Spirit Magic supplement. I think it's probably still available from the MGP site.
  6. The D100 SRD that is most commonly seen in the wild is based on the Mongoose version known as MRQI. It was released as OGL and someone stripped it down into an SRD and that got turned into Openquest and modified again into OQ2. RQ has a complex history through RQ, RQ2, RQ3 (produced by Avalon Hill and Games Workshop) RQ4 (which was never released AFAIK), MRQI, OQ1, OQ2, MRQII, and it then diverged into Legend and RQ6.
  7. Having done a fair bit of this for presentation work I can says that the binder/punch is the most expensive bit. They are generally sized by the number of pages they can punch at one time and punch the rectangular holes to take the comb binding all along one edge. The punched pages are then slipped over the binding which is put over a set of fingers and a lever pulled down to open up the binding. The pages slip over the open fingers of the binding spine and the lever released so that the spine returns to it's relaxed state. 8. I've been sidetracked playing/running games since last week and haven't got further. The system proposed by Montjoy has been of interest and I'm currently going to try that in some test scenes. His system seems most like the one in ASoIaF and that had the right sort of flavour that I want. I'm going to write up various techniques and possible outcomes and see how they fit with Montjoy's system. I'll post back when I've down the testing.
  9. p296 A SIZ13 person is roughly 170lbs / 80kgs Every item has an ENC value, measured more by how difficult it is to handle, rather than by its weight. The ENC of a SIZ13 block of lead is very different from a SIZ13 lump of wood. ENC is all about the ability of a PC to carry an object. A 10' pole has a greater ENC value than a block of dried meat as the volume and ease of carrying it is different. There is no simple conversion. If you are a SIZ 13 person in heavy armour you buy a more expensive horse - one better able to carry you and your armour, maybe even a second horse to ride while your armour and gear is carried on another animal. It's one of those 'don't sweat the small stuff' things that worrying about bogs you down.
  10. That's certainly very interesting and maybe along the lines I was thinking. The role play between dice rolls is about the right sort of level /mix between pure mechanics and RP that I'm seeking. I'll digest this and may scrap my 75% complete mod of the ASoIaF Intrigue/Social Combat system and use this instead.
  11. I'll write it up to use RQ6 stats although it should do Legend or any other D100 game with some adjustment, usually with regard to the skill name
  12. Thanks SDLeary, I'll take another look through the Traits part to see if I can use that. p_clapham, what you are suggesting is roughly how Green Ronin's ASoIaF works and is mostly what I'm trying to get at but most suggestions i.e. the ones in RQ6, seem to treat Social Combat as an adjunct to the game and try to get it over in a single roll which does not provide any flavour and makes those epic struggles between competing powerful personalities hard to do. An example from Cornwall. Arthur has a cleric that advises him and a warlord that guides him in military matters and these two are at odds over political methods of running the war against the Saxons. No way do I want to play out that struggle for power with a single flavourless die roll and the Green Ronin Chronicle system is too clunky and overly complex for both martial and social combat to work smoothly although the system they have for creating and maintaining Houses works pretty well.
  13. I think I might not have been clear enough in my initial summary. I don't feel that role playing gives everyone an adequate chance of success in a Social combat situation. Simply relying on the 'talky' player doing all the work prevents another character who may have been built as socially powerful from taking their place in the spotlight. I'll give an example from ASoIaF. Each character has a resistance to being influenced and the degree of success of the influencer allows for this resistance to be eroded and when it reaches zero the character agrees to do the required task. This mechanical system is the same for combat in that a defence pool is reduced to zero by an amount depending upon the degrees of success of the attack and this amount can be reduced by taking a wound or injury which takes time to heal. So I'm looking for some a bit more than what is outlined on p427/8. The mechanical effect of 25% per level of success and aiming for a total of 100% doesn't really give any of the flavour I'm looking for in a Social Conflict even with a bit of role play to back up the die rolls. I think I'm going to have to kludge the ASoIaF mechanics into a formal/better formulated system. This will involve setting up an Objective for the Social combat e.g. - Friendship, Information, Service, Deceit Setting the opposing Dispositions e.g. - Affectionate, Friendly, Amiable, Indifferent, Dislike, Unfriendly, Malicious Differing Techniques e.g. - Bargain, Charm, Convince, Incite, Intimidate, Seduce, Taunt Then using some sort of table to adjust Objectives by which Technique is used and thereby setting the amount that the opponents Disposition is moved to a more or less favourable position. If the Objective is Friendship then Intimidate and Incite are unlikely to be effective whereas Charm and Seduce would likely work. The Techniques don't have to map exactly to skills as Customs, Insight, Influence, Passions and Persuade are the 'normal' base social skills in RQ6 while Dance and Sing may be useful in a Friendship situation. The Professional skills of Acting, Bureaucracy, Commerce, Courtesy, Disguise, Musicianship, Oratory, Seduction and Streetwise might all be useful in various situations for any of the Techniques but the limit of a small number of such skills prevents their use in regular situations but might be the best solution when they are available by delivering a more focussed effect.
  14. I've been playing in a short campaign of ASoIaF using their GoT setting and had a lot of enjoyment out of the social side of the game. I'd like to add more to Social Interaction in other games so I can do more of the power play, court intrigue over 'hit it with a pointy stick' games I seem stuck in. Obviously some of the problem is players who think hitting things is the only true way of sorting things out but a more balanced Social combat system might counter this tendency. Combat usually consist of multiple rounds of hitting things whereas social combat is usually resolved with a single roll of the dice. This gives me a less interesting feel to Social combat and also makes it less important in the eyes of the players. Now RQ6 with Passions gives me some of the underpinnings to make for a better social combat feeling but it's not complete. If I use my Influence vs. Willpower in an Opposed test and reduce the target's Passion by a few percentage points it'll take a very long time to move him to a position where he agrees with my position. If I use the Passion directly as the opposing skill it's no better. There is no means by which a Passion can be altered except by GM fiat. I can certainly say your Passion for Lady Margaret has risen by 10 or 20% because she has successfully used Seduce with one or two degrees of success. I can't say the NPC is leaning towards supporting your cause without adding some Passion such as Player's Cause in the game. So let's have some suggestions of a suitable mechanism that will help with this and maybe even a table of results or Special Effects to be applied in Social Combat.
  15. Delta Green has various styles of Martial Art that includes weapons like knives, clubs and other similar weapons which mimic authentic MA combat styles. I've used a variation of that for the Fairburn-Sykes combat style taught to SOE/OSS agents and commando soldiers in WW2 and some law enforcement agents since that period. The DG system limits the attack to either double damage or allows the use of MA skill in place of the Unarmed skill. As you need both Unarmed or the melee weapon to be at a similar level of skill to the MA skill it's costly in terms of points/skill improvements (You roll once and have to be under both the melee skill and the MA skill value to succeed). But it's a fun addition and mimics unarmed combat/martial arts well enough.
  16. It's being done by some of the folks involved in 7e so I guess it might have CoC stats but then at least one of the writers is a big WoD author so I suppose it could go in lot's of ways. If the initial playtest (and it's being written and rewritten as we go along) is supposed to last about a year I would think it's two years away at least.
  17. Why don't you have the sheets in google docs format and set the sharing up by email address for the players and GM?
  18. I suspect that publishers would want to avoid threads that could confuse potential purchasers about their products. If I were to post about a particular mechanic that is handled slightly differently in a particular sub variant of a D100 game and put that post in the MW forum it might confuse people about it's applicability to MW. A post comparing how a mechanic varies between RQ2/3 and RQ6 might be on-topic for a RQ forum but not a MW one. A generic D100 forum would solve some problems but people ignoring that board in favour of the board covering their own favourite variant might miss the thread abut yet till have something to contribute.
  19. AFAIK DM is two people, one in Canada and one in Sweden. I doubt that they'll be at SPIEL but Moon Design should be and may well have copies of RQ6 for sale. You should ask over on the DM forums for more info.

    SRD?

If you've already touched base with Loz he's your best bet. I've never seen a copy in the wild.
  21. nclarke

    SRD?

No SRD as RQ6 is not OGC, but RQ6 Essentials is Pay What You Want and has most stuff in it. The RQ Gateway licence is the thing that allows for writing for RQ6 so Loz may be along shortly to give more help/advice.
  22. You will probably have seen the recent analysis of Richard III's injuries after Bosworth. They can easily determine post-mortem injuries from the location on the body and many of them are, or could be seen as, injuries of spite while the body was draped over a horse for transport to its final resting place. The head wounds that seemed to be fatal were noted as being inflicted in the absence of a helmet. The TV program I saw implied that they believed he'd lost the helmet and then taken blows from a pole weapon that inflicted the fatal blow(s). Another program that covered his spinal deformity was extremely interesting as they found someone who had a similar condition, made them appropriate armour and tested his ability to ride and perform combat while being monitored. The results showed that the spinal condition would have limited Richard's ability to draw breath in extreme physical situations so he would tire more easily in combat. No doubt this led to him losing his helmet and his life.
  23. I run a lot of stuff. This year I've run The Laundry, World War Cthulhu and am about to start a One Ring game all about 12 weeks each. I also run a monthly FTF game of One Ring and an on-line One Ring game every two weeks. I ran con games of World War Cthulhu, a Legend/RQ6 mashup and the Laundry at UK Games Expo. I'm running RQ6 games at Indiecon in November and Dragonmeet and another One Ring game at Dragonmeet. I've played in a recent session of Song of Ice and Fire and playtests sessions of Feng Shui 2 and a scenario for Jadepunk that's being run at Furnace. I've forgotten what games I played at Conception but it did include a playtest of one of the scenarios for CoC 7e and I ran a One Ring session. I'm also in an on-line playtest for a Trail of Cthulhu campaign that'l take about 12 months to play through.
  24. Or not bother if you are using CoC 7e.
  25. IIRC there have been threads over at Mongoose about doing The Witcher stuff with Legend so you might want to have a look there as Legend is pretty close to RQ6.
