  1. I can't see Chaosium actually revoking licenses for BRP-based products but when/if they come up for renewal there might be some changes. AFAIK Chaosium used the licensing to get product to sell at full price through their web site to maximise revenue (no distributor discounts). This tactic worked in that they finally paid off a large amount of their debt from the 90's. If you use a no hit location option and eliminate the combat special effects then the core of RQ6 is pretty close to BRP. The free firearms pdf adds in some of the options still missing and it's really only the space and superhero stuff that is left out. I'm personally cold to the whole superhero genre so that's not a loss for me and I can use Cthulhu Rising as a base or even River of Heaven if I want BRP style space stuff. The RQ6 Essentials package gives me the basis for Fantasy/S&S games without too much need to house ruling anyway.
  2. Whjy is DM so expensive, it's not even something you can buy? Vote for Design Mechanism, I have.
  3. Looking at my copy of KC II p140 the item is called ODIN - Optically Distributed Interactive Neuro-Implant and the thing is from Present Day, "The Professionals," The Stars Are Right!, Fred Behrendt.
  4. The New Content link works for me so it's something odd going on.
  5. Thanks Chris, here's to another few years playing a great game. Nigel
  6. I play it that you just can't use them let alone with a reduction in effectiveness. I suppose you could do a 10% loss per point under the minimum if you wanted to play that way.
  7. An example of what vagabond is talking about would be the Cubicle 7 Laundry game. Although based on BRP there are enough changes or special options that a full core book including the BRP rules is exactly what is needed. Their World War Cthulhu line which doesn't need the special options works very well as a supplement using the 6e rules for the WW2 version and 7e for the new Cold war supplement.
  8. Some monographs were turned into 'proper' books after the monographs proved a hit, others fell by the wayside.
  9. I suspect that it does as it's one line they feel is worthy of immediate selection by comparison with monographs.
  10. Modiphius Press is doing a Conan game, sue for release maybe at Gencon. I think Jason may have had something to do with it.
  11. They've probably all been paid for their work. IIRC a monograph author gets USD200. If Chaosium choose to develop it into a non-monograph then the author might get paid more but..... With the new management in place they may opt to go down a POD route for the old monographs but no monographs a business decision that may or may not be permanent.
  12. I suspect that they will probab;y add back old orders on a case by case basis when asked (that's how I'd do it) so personally I'd let the dust settle a bit before bombarding Ben with requests. It might also be better to wait until you need the data to contact the company. If it should happen that they can't save Chaosium it wont matter but letting them have some breathing space might make that bit of difference.
  13. Looks like you aren't going to be splashing out then SImlasa as the changes are already in place with a final hunt for typos before going to print in a week or so.
  14. It might be in Chaosium's interest to put all the monographs up on DTRPg with a POD option. That way they would lose the DTRPG slice of revenue but gain the revenue from people who wont buy a pdf but will buy a POD copy.
  15. Free shipping for orders greater than USD 125 disappeared some time ago, late last/early this year IIRC.
  16. Problem is that boxes are very costly which is why you see very few boxed sets except at very high price points or where quantity is high enough. Most games run under 1000 copies for a print run and boxes just aren't cheap enough at that level.
  17. A lot of folks didn't like the proposed 7e rules because of rumour, fear and doubt. There was a lot of misinformation repeated as fact and that led to quite a few people proclaiming their dislike without ever having seen the revisions. I did two rounds of playtesting in the UK and I got the impression that not a few US people shouted their hate for 7e purely because it was a couple of UK-based authors despite the status of those authors in the Cthulhu gaming community. The playtesting did include a large number of groups although not, it appears, some of the most vociferous 'haters' who continue to trumpet their dislike for the revised edition.
  18. I'm rather glad I've already booked The Kraken then Jason.
  19. No software as it gets in the way, I've been doing this for over forty years and software never improves a game where imagination is required. Dice when needed I roll and report the result mostly. Some games do have the option to use Dicestream for die rolls.
  20. FTF or Hangouts with distant friends.
  21. With the loss of Lynn Willis I suspect that the company lost direction and with the return of Petersen at least there is someone with some business acumen with the company at a senior level.
  22. Actually with Chaosium doing a discount on pdf purchases at the moment you'd be better off going for Malleus Monstorum in pdf.
  23. I'm guessing that any Windows emulator may work and the better you are at tweaking such an install the better it's likely to work.
  24. http://www.nbos.com/products/charsheet/charsheet-requirements.htm Only supports WIndows but the link suggest that it may run on WINE but that isn't supported.
  25. If you Kickstart it you can add another six months or a year to the time frame if you really need to. I'll put a smiley face on so those whose first language is not English will realise I'm joking about adding extra time.:-)
