  1. @Sumath -- That's a great list! A couple of them (Praxpak, Trollpack) were, last I knew, still "on the fence" between RQG or HQG... Do you recall them being definitively stated as having joined the RQ hero-band? Also, some of those projects appear to be VERY forward-looking, and may not make it to a final project, or may morph to unrecognizability before they do... Because, y'know, stuff happens. RL scores a critical hit, and gaming takes the fall. I recall a BRP "Noir Detective" (not Cthulhu) game that apparently had lots of excitement at Chaosium and they were talking about / tease'ing online & at 'Cons... but RL, and it's not happening any more. Still and all, a great list to see! TYVM!
  2. Also here: https://basicroleplaying.org/topic/4064-upcoming-glorantha-publications/?page=1 Not exclusively RQ, but well organized & the known RQ books are clear.
  3. I note the that there are Dino-riders in Prax -- the Bolo Lizard Tribe. Of course, the nomads aren't agricultural! I am pondering the notion that I may Vary My Glorantha by replacing each family-unit tent (that other tribes use) with something on the backs of Thunder Lizards... braves on Bolo's, families up high on Apatosaurs / etc...
  4. I'm thinking the culminating/climactic scene would be stealing the Antelope Khan's white Antelope...
  5. I do not think the RQG rulebook states any definitive RAW on this. But it is IMHO the only valid interpretation: as you strip away things that could add SR's -- move to longer weapons, readed weapons, missile weapons, etc -- the one element you can never eliminate is your DEX based SR. When all the other elements add zero SRs each, you go on your DEX rank.
  6. Agreed. Provisionally agreed: assuming they want to engage you; if they are happy to let you go by without Engaging, then you can do so. I might apply a mutual 1SR penlalty to both parties for being a bit more slow/careful when moving within the Engagement range of an armed foe; but that'd be GM ad-hocery. Sharply disagree, at least per the RAW. There is no "flanking bonus" rule in RQG, that I recall. Gabby can indeed "go" on SR4, but her action would need to be to close the distance: Bazza isn't in range. Gabby couldn't have taken an attack action BEFORE Bazza closed the distance; it's not an "impulse" system but it does order the events, and on SR4 Bazza isn't close enough to Engage. If both of their SoI's for the round were, "I'll stand my ground and let the little piss-ant come to me." then neither of them GETS an attack -- they stand there glaring at one another from out of range, unEngaged... Bazza isn't in range until the move completes; either on SR6, or one SR earlier if you allow the Gabby's weapon's reach-advantage to apply.
  7. I could see some argument with metaphysical handwavery, wherein a focus on the weapon is better for making the weapon part of the casting, whereas a focus on a tattoo/etc requires you to "refocus" (i.e. be slower) in some metaphysical way; the upside being you can cast it on ANY weapon, not just your usual one with the focus carved into it. But I could equally-well assert that a focus is a focus and they work the same. In the end, I will say that either seems fine, and MGF should rule -- what does YOUR table think is the most interesting, the most fun? I would need to go over RQClassic & RQG with fine-toothed-combs to be sure; but I think you have used a crucial word: "interpretation." I think this point was always a HR'ed point. In lieu of a definitive answer in the RAW(s), RQG needs an interpretation as much as RQ2 & RQ3 ever did; and I see no reason to interpret the matter differently.
  8. Length of weapon has a real bearing on this; often the main determinant. Long pikes set to receive a charge will attack earlier. A lancer charging an axe-wielder will attack earlier. Etc... Also, there's a question of a "charge" (as part of an attack) vs an "advance" (as movement/repositioning). One could argue the merits of the stationary fighter gaining a slight advantage from being able to prep vs. a charge; or the charging fighter being in control of the timing; etc. I think those muddy the case at hand, though; let's not get into those hypotheticals. It sounds (in the OP, before any of us added complications) like Gabby & Bazza each plan to attack one another; Gabby is going to hold, Bazza plans to advance... but NOT charge. It was mutual intention to be Engaged in combat. So that's what happens. The one with the earlier SR goes first, because nothing happened to alter that. There's DEX ranks as slower characters take a bit longer to act. It takes some SR's (+4) of movement, because they don't begin close enough to Engage. Gabby's DEX+SIZ+Weapon SR adds to 4 (but Bazza isn't in reach until SR6). At SR2, Bazza begins advancing. Bazza means to advance for 4 SR's until in-range of Gabby -- arriving on SR6 -- and strike. Gabby will strike before Bazza. My only question is, can Gabby strike one SR earlier, on 5, because of the longer / lower-SR weapon? I can see the argument for Gabby going on SR5 or on SR6.
  9. SR's are a bit abstract, so there's some judgement here; but I'd call this for Gabby's attack on SR6. Bazza begins moving on their DEX rank (2) plus 4 SR's to close to engagement-distance with Gabby. Gabby can't reach Bazza on SR4, Bazza has only closed half the distance to engagement-range. I could see an argument for Gabby going on SR5: their weapon has 1 more SR of range, so it hits 1 SR before the distance that Bazza is closing to. But that's beginning to get a bit fiddly, and setting SR-abstractions into inappropriately-concrete specifics.
  10. I'm not sure I understand this counter example. Why is Morris' javelin not going until SR5? Is he just that slow/clumsy? Is the javelin not readied? Did he move enough SR's to delay? Some mix of all the above? I will suggest that if, in fact, Morris' javelin doesn't go until SR5, then it happens AFTER Gabby's potential melee action on SR4 (but before the actual action on SR6, when Bazza finishes moving).
  11. Regrding the GM Sourcebook -- yes; As per @Marc but no date is announced. Chaosium has, I think, been burnt too often by announcing a date which is delayed by factors outside their control. They try to avoid that now! And also yes RE the Bestiary (also the "GM Screen Pack" (with a LOT more than a screen -- several adventures, a mini-sandbox setting, etc)) are complete and in transit, available this month (barring unforeseen disasters). They will be available individually, or in slipcase sets with the Core Rulebook (and by special order from Chaosium direct, slipcases without the core book, for you to add the core book you already bought). 2 of Chaosium's fulfillment centers are stocked and ready, the containers are almost to the 3rd & final one. Chaosium will launch simultaneously from all centers.
  12. Note the the Shamanic Advantage here -- they can instruct several spirits to simul-Buff on the same signal, so the clock for the first spell isn't 3 rounds expended by the time that 4th spell is cast...
  13. I was trying to break down what "take out some of the enemies fast" looks like in RQ terms. The ultimate advice for a fight is "win." But what does that look like? "Take out some of the enemies fast". But what does THAT look like? etc ...
  14. Hm... how about getting a bit more concrete? It's two-fold... #1 "Numbers (of foes) can make a difference. If you can area-attack or otherwise multi-target, and neutralize a large number of mooks VERY early (before they can subject you to their many attacks), that can be a winning tactic; or at least, it can block THEIR winning tactic." The idea is, if none of foes A/B/C/D/E/F/G are particularly threatening (individually), you still need to treat them as a COLLECTIVE threat: taking out foe E has only reduced the threat to 6/7 its prior danger. #2 - "Bosses are seldom best left to the end; if you can get several PC's attacking a Boss early on, forcing them onto the defensive or even taking them down, it can be a winning strategy; a Boss may be capable of reliably 1-shot-dropping any PC, and the fewer rounds they are free to do that, the better!" Many D&D players are used to an "attritional grind" of hit-points down to zero; they count on their own HP-buffer to suffice vs the foes' grinding. In RQ, one round can make an enormous difference. Best you seek that round EARLY, and in your favor, lest the foes find a way to inflict it upon you in THEIR favor.
  15. Dare I say... An (Easter) Egg?
  16. BTW @MOB @Rick Meints -- any chance of a "TrainsOfRQ" or similar update? 😉
  17. I have also had (a very few) occasion to consult with Dustin, and have been impressed every time.
  18. Dammit, Andy. DAMMIT. Now I have to create that scenario...
  19. Maybe find a Canadian store that DOES stock RQ, so you don't have to pay that international postage? Give the nearby B&M store a call; they may not list the RQ slipcase set because Chaosium themselves doesn't yet list it! Even if they don't list it, they may be willing&able to order it! And don't hesitate to call the store in Hamilton (& ask for a manager) to say, "I am gonna buy this $150* product elsewhere because y'all can't be bothered to do this normal business thing that other stores do. I'll try you folks next time... Maybe the time after that... But eventually, I'll stop bothering you with my money." * (I estimate 150CDN from 120US)
  20. I only allow "movement-first" when that character is -- and remains, for the entire melee round -- unEngaged, non-casting, not firing missiles, etc. If they are moving with the Intent to Engage/Etc, and/or someone else's SoI will bring the moving character under attack, or into an Engaged situation... then the "moving" character moves in SR order, beginning on their DEX rank.
  21. So do we all, my friend. So do we all.
  22. <wordlessly holds up mirror>
  23. That would be what I'd expect. Find a friendlier LGS, or order directly through Chaosium, to get the benefits. I am, frankly, a bit shocked that there are LGS's not part of B&M not willing to sign up. It's one of the few ways the LGS can price-compete with Amazon &c.
  24. Christopher Tin, composer who does symphonic / world crossover music (probably best known for "Baba Yetu" the Civ4 theme) actually consulted with linguists to figure out most-likely pronunciations of a tiny bit of Proto-Indo-European, for his piece Water Prelude. As I understand it, all the words are variations on water, moisture, wet, etc
