  1. you can change it as "if you dodge, you lose your bonus"
  2. welcome and very nice house rule; you convince me 🙂
  3. Don’t play a gorp or a true dragon that is the only advice I have 🙂
  4. I have the same memory but in addition I believe I read that zz followers use it as a way to challenge the kaargs followers too so yes it is not only « sport » but there are a lot of symbols , sometimes religious, sometimes politics, sometimes entertainment don’t know if there is some standard outcome for the winners and for the losers (well, not a lot of good issues for the trollkin ….)
  5. Seems to me easier to get an allied spirit (aka a spirit existing in the god plan) bound into the bow than go on heroquest to awake the bow (aka a spirit from scratch born into the bow) * When I say easier…. Well will you go in dangerous heroquest (as it is about weapon there should be some fight or other dangerous situation) before you are rune master (and if you are rune master you probably get the allied spirit) but that could be an unexpected benefit to hear your bow after the quest : you go to get some seed to save / renew the forest and you are so successful that your bow is blessed by the mother goddess. * i say that but I m not sure if, in glorantha spirits can be created or if there are here since the beginning awaking an object = binding a spirit with a « past » ?
  6. I want to be clear on one point 🙂 IRL I have no faith, I hope there is something, I fear there is nothing and unfortunately now that I m not very very young, my fear is overcoming my hope. So all I say is my understanding of Glorantha (may be wrong), I don't project in my answers my own absence of "divine certainty", I project the "what if I knew the gods are here, what if I saw the ghost of my grandmother and talked to her, what if I was able to cast some thunder by praying Orlanth, when my uncle is not able to do it but is able to close a door I cannot force, etc.." And this projection may have bias (spoiler just because to focus on my main point) YES
  7. like your last 2 posts @JRE even if I m not aligned about the "god = machine", but we have a common base about soul 😛 !
  8. The 200 is not for the priest but for the temple (priest = 90% tithes) and a priest, at least in my glorantha, will not do it for consumer but for initiate of the same religion, associate cult or for those who have demonstrate some loyalty / help or thing like that You can consider that business, capitalism and other irl world can apply but there is a difference : the sun can stop , the wind can die, the earth can freeze. so considering that the power energy that mortals can use to support their gods and their world is just « something buyable » is for me a non sense how many people in our world will sell their arms , limbs, eyes voluntary for money ?
  9. what kind of game is it ? I mean something like wow, cyberpunk, etc.. is very much complex than king of dragon pass or stuff like this (even if it is a very nice game, that is not the point). it depends on a lot of things. 3 years may be very long or very short
  10. Before answering, it is not my irl perspective (I don't say what is good what is wrong in real life), it is what I imagine gloranthan may do facing the different situations I consider category 3 should be splitted: --> it is the cult standard to sacrifice POW: no need of roll it is just "normal" to sacrifice your soul, as you will get it back when you join your god in the other world --> it is clear for everyone that the sacrifice is required, no need of roll if you will save your god byt this sacrifice --> it is not really clear for you that the sacrifice is required, then yes loyalty to the temple / priest or devotion. I think categories 2 and 4 should have other options. In my opinion a large part of gloranthan would not consider soul as a resource. Of course few would be able to sell the eternal part of themselves to solve very temporary issue but very few, and then, yes passions should be required You are not able to feed your family... become mercenary or thief , sell one of your child (of course the new owner parent, will feed better the child, that is for her best), become yourself semi free or not free at all for a duration, hoping it will help you to pay your debts, etc... You are prisoner and bargain a ransom ? propose oaths or some treasure hidden somewhere or secret plan you had in mind. Nothing ? you knew when you started your "career " what were the risks. You knew that if catched you will probably be sold. Here you are, by default a large part would accept it, find a way to escape or not, etc.. my point is there no business for that because - the consequences are so huge (eternal loss or soul vs temporal gain of ... cow ?!) - that is absolutly not aligned with the background and npc official stats Why Leika (one of the most important person in Sartar has so few items ?) It is easy to make an industry of enchantment (few hour for one item) if POW is available. So why no industry ? Because the gods and because the pow is not abalable. (except if we consider that gloranthan are so dumb they had not the idea after so many ages and the god don't care at all what they are asked to do) . that s only my opinion 🙂 don't say it is canon or anything, just my Glorantha
  11. this morning house rule : pc can use their pow as they want npc must succeed a "positive" passion roll (and sometimes fail a "negative" passion roll) to sacrifice a part of their pow/soul to anything else than devotion to their god (it is not a full loss, as you expect your god to welcome your soul after your death) so you want your slaves or prisoners to sacrifice your pow ? Do they have "love master" (so few would have it for sure) ; "love freedom" (so few would have it and would not be already killed after an escape attempt ) "fear master" is not a positive passion (sadly, as so many would have it) oh but maybe you did not kill your fugitive, only few dozen of whiplashes... in addition of the positive passion success, you hope now the guy will fail the "hate master" roll... Don't have slave; it is evil, maybe chaotic and then, will your god accept to enchant some gear only for your money ? Gusbran perhaps, if, in addition, you show all your art of smithing. But do you believe that Orlanth, Yelm, Humakt will accept to do it only for your vile business ? When their own prupose are so high ?! no, not in my glorantha !
  12. I would imagine some quest back to the green age. Where / When genert, aldrya or any elfic deity is fighting ennemy / plague / what you want. The god send the heroes to a dangerous mission After some exploration, in a cave, or any dark part where green life is in danger, the bow is ill, but the group succeed to fine a solution back to camp, the deity welcomes the heroes, happy for their success, but sad for the bow (after all there is a spirit inside it is not only wood) The bow dies, and then is burried with the blessing of the divinity and its minions But the power of growth is big in green age and a new little sprout appears. Some dances around and hey here your new bow more powerful !
  13. i don"t doubt about it (I haven't cult of terror or any EN RQ material from these days ) my only book is "Les dieux de Glorantha" (Oriflam FR) It is said : "une personne peut s'initier à plus d'un culte, tant qu'elle maintient les restrictions (y compris le don de temps et de revenus) de tous ses cultes. Aucun de ces cultes ne peut être hostile ou ennemi l'un de l'autre" so for the bold part, "None of these cults can be hostile or ennemy to each other" (hope I translate well) 3 points then : 1) for once I'm able to remember well the rules I read years ago ^^ 2) that's why I now buy only english material, to know what is the original version so what I can discuss with others 3) I think however that the french version is more interesting. it allows GM some licence to decide if yes or not a pc can or not be initiate in a second cult. disagree there 🙂 simple rules (like friendly, neutral, ...) seems to me objectionable. for me "compatible" is a great word ! It gives not a complex set of rules to determine what is acceptable or notIt allows gm (as "the priests", so another gm would decide otherwise) to define if yes or this specific cult is specific with this specific other. Few examples : is Yelmalio and Issaries compatible ? I would say yes (and it is : we have a npc in the rqg core book) is Yelmalio and Orlanth compatible ? I would say yes as we have sartarite clans worshipping the horse sun god. It would be difficult to not accept your clanmate, or your sibling, in your cult just because they joined the other one. Same for Orlanth and Argan Argar ? I would say yes as we have sartarite troll friends clans More exotic : What about Ty Kora Tek and Morasoma (Comb and Bread) : I m prety sure that a near priestess in the white bull campaign would enjoy to join it ! or Lhankor Mhy and Hobimarong (maybe it is the same god, after all who knows !) is Chalana arroy and Orlanth adventurous compatible ? Will you, as a wind, lord welcome in your warriors rank a healer unable to fight ? (the question is complex: of course you may say that fly and other spells can be usefull for a healer, but the adventurous subcult is not a spell provider, it dedicates its efforts on fight and destruction. It is happy to have the great healer as friend, but as friend, not as member). Simpler with orlanth thunderous by the way In my examples I would consider that even friendly cults may be incompatible, just because their perspectives, their values are different. But in other hand, not friendly cults may be compatible so the canon rules will be in the so expected rqg cults books but in any case, my own rules would be "it depends"
  14. Do the same. I even believed that it was « canon » if not how to become initiate to an unknown cult in a strange land if not how a shaman of storm bull can be initiate of aranea ? 😛 i will stay with neutral (but as always playing some priests issues to accept it, pc must convince both old and new cults)
  15. I have no source saying that wind or air just around the area cannot fill it the next round so for me it can (not because earth rules, I always try to not use irl to demonstrate anything in glorantha), because wind is motion. But I like your point about windstop In my opinion you steal air in a closed jar, there is no more air next round, you steal air outside, there is "new air" next round you steal light, there is light next round (because I cannot imagine that no light = darkness) maybe light less hard for troll, but light, you steal darkness, there is darkness next round you steal water, it is like air : in an ocean / see / river, there is still water next round, in a jar, pool, etc.. there is no more water you steal earth... it depends also of what kind of earth it is, it may become a cave (no collapse), a hole (nothing upside), or "new earth" '= collapse, then a hole somewhere upside), like in minecraft when you mine stone or gravel and here because water comparison gives me some movies pictures, yes there is a point : we may have a spell able to move the "bubble" with us so for me because that's sorcery you want to steal air in a fixed area : you want to have the ability of moving your "bubble" : maybe without combine but seems to me that, without this difficulty (at least 1 more rune), the op issue will be too hard to manage and that is the case for create XXX, movable illusions have 3 runes, create wall of flames only 2 (and cannot be moved) * note that i dont say tap water create a air bubble, i say tap water create a void bubble. if you want an air bubble in the ocean you summon air, you don't tap water. and here a new issue : it should be harder to summon air in a hostile place (deep ocean) than in a "friendly place" (smoke in a house) but we have nothing (mm I think, I m not sure) about this in fact that is the true issue, there is no statement 🙂 And the answer will probably be MGF 😛 As it is not too important for me, I m able to wait for the sorcery supplement ( I m not able to wait for cults supplement by the way, but this is another story hahaha)
  16. I may be wrong of course however : The target of the spell must be in the range. if it is a passive spell, once the spell is cast within the range, I don’t care about the range: the spell is done the effect is on the target if it is an active spell, the target must be in the range of the caster if the target moves in the same direction than the caster it is not an issue the caster can move for sure But , in our case the target of steal breath could be - a being but once dead there is no more breath, but i agree the being may move - an area: this area cannot move. And that is my point. The sorcerer must stay in the range of the source of mp. As I understand the target area is not a radius around the sorcerer or anything able to move. It is « there » and nowhere else
  17. I always have seen truestone as temple's treasure, used only to lend some great power to some champion for a mission and the mission only (once achieved the temple get back the stone), so I m exactly on @Rodney Dangerduck line . And that way is, for me, what I understood when I read the sun dome temple description and the Belvani's crystal "agreement" (not a true stone but even lower than one) ok sometimes a pc may gain one by some weird mean but a devoted pc would have to offer it to a temple. the real difference* is the true stone abilities in the previous version, not its purpose * in my play, of course I agree with you if there is no other option : your RP is 18, you put 1 into a truestone, then you are down to 17 then you sacrifice one POW. your RP is now 18 the true stone spell is now cast... and nothing change for your RP (CHA limit) aka the POW / Rune point "sent" into the true stone cannot be back, so is lost, for ever. the truestone can be seen as a RP extension without CHA limit (with the limit what is over is one use) I m just interpretating what MOB said, I did not have this idea before, does it mean than there are munchkins in chaosium ? oups !
  18. probably my words more than my idea. in other words, if you succeed every thing POW 15, mp 40 you cast zz for 20mp if zz is active (as you say only one active spell, I think the same butnot sure) you have now min(15, 40-20) = 15 mp if zz is passive you are still under steal breath, you have now 40-20 = 20pm hope is more understandable 😛
  19. not exactly my thought first point : only extra mp may be lost => so there is an interest to use steal breath before casting another one second point: the rules says you can use mp (extra included) to cast another one. That is not an issue, but a question of sequence, in my opinion : until the next spell is cast, it doesn't exist so let's say you have: POW15; MP 10 you cast steal breath and after some times you are now POW 15; MP 40 you want to cast ZZ for 20 mps you start your cast (rules say you can do it still under steal breaht) => POW 15; MP 40 it is a success (double, success of concentration, success to cast ZZ) you burn your 20 mps => POW 15; MP 20 but if you are not anymore under steal breath, as the new spell is effective * => POW 15; MP 15 now, if you fail your concentration roll, you will not be able to cast ZZ 20 as you have not enough mp (15) as you are not under steal breath when the mp should be used * I have now a doubt : can you have more than one spell active ?
  20. there are a lot of limits (but yes this spell is very powerfull) 1) active spell so there is a lot of issue to have it, you cannot flee, cannot fight, cannot run, etc.. i would add cannot discuss/seduce/... (or with penalty as they must stay focused 2) range the spell is ranged. It means that if the sorcerer is too far from the designed location , the spell is broken. So having the spell for a day means stay all the day at the same place 3) magic limit here the point is "duration" For me there are two notions : the duration defined when the sorcerer casted the spell, that is the first limit. Once it is done, the extra mp are gone. the spell is an active one. If you break the spell (second point) the extra mp are gone (breaking the spell is breaking the duration of the spell) 4) casting on a person if the sorcerer wants to cast the spell on someone it means for me to cast another spell. That is not the "daily" spell you want to "change" the target. i consider that any(thing/one) with a breath can be victim of the spell. So the question, for me, is more "does a dream dragon breathe ?" (for me yes) than "is a dream dragon a person" (for me yes too but not important for this: i accept to cast the spell against a beast living in/on air (so not a gloranthan fish if you face the question one day). 5) background as @PhilHibbs answers, there are the mechanic but there are too some social issues. Destroying a little air is not noticable, destroying too much air will alert a lot of people ennemies
  21. hum it is more "I give you great powers and I have great beauty and charisma, so yes you will love me" 😛
  22. for once, that is not my french accent but my decision to use "women". maybe too annoyed by some irl commentators about the international situation... Yes I choose women for troll as I don't want to make a hierarchy between human (on the top) and troll (on the bottom) societies. They are different, they are not fine in my opinion (both) but they are both civilized (in they ways, adn many ways not only one human and one troll) So yes we have women who lead Esrolia, and we have (dark)women who lead Troll societies (maybe not all by the way) 🙂 that's true, and in this aspect it seems to me that it is the same relationship type (subordination) than not voluntary marriage (or not tonight I don't want), slavery, etc.. but you're right to point it but in all cases : i did not understand it, apologies, so you raise an interesting question, more arachne or more thed is this activity ? I don't know
  23. As uz society is dominated by women, (and women pack more than one individual) I think the opposite. how fool would be a troll to try to touch someone with 6 sisters priestess 2 shamans and one sorcery mistress and of course 56 husbands and sons from the pack ?
  24. mgf is my first answer too but maybe, I would keep in mind that th skill check is for abnormal situation and I m not sure that, for example, biting a target is an abnormal situation for a wolf. A wolf must bit to eat so often, so, depending on the target ... yes hurting an armored warrior or a sabertooth is abnormal, but hurting a prey (including poor farmer) is just "standard giant wolf life"
  25. option 1) don't understand why the guy wants to use a shield and a blade... be honorable, hands versus hands ! option 2) they will run over to hug themselves, one of them crying "Dady" very nice picture. I have a feeling of quietude + dramatic emergency, thanks a lot
