  1. keep it simple it is really easy from an "archaic male" perspective to become a female, you just have to cut what exceeds. And it is a bloody sacrifice, exactly what these goddesses want. I would say that trying to change sex by other mean (magic, potion, ...) for initiation purpose is just an attempt to avoid a pain. This pain is a price to pay for what you were : a man, a danger, maybe a vilain or just a member of a dangerous community (the men) for women that now you want to protect or avenge. You don't want the pain, you are a trickster. I m not sure Babs would appreciate her initiates to work like Eurmal (Of course IRL, I don't share it, be male / female is not a question of joystick, and I consider guilt should be based on facts, not inheritance, aspect or chromosome )
  2. Although, also, that in previous centuries, in a more religious period (about the same than sartarite ?) , this activity would probably burn the shaman's body (not spirit combat fumble, more hide or fast talk fumble)
  3. exactly, we can have character "touched" by a god or just initiate because their parents were, a social choice, like arranged marriage but with a god. And that's the core question : what is the impact, can/should the god interfere in the initiate life. So in your example, will Donandar give more harmony in the jester life. Something like the opposite of illumination ?
  4. I forgot the disorder rune impact that's a good point, thanks. But what happens with an eurmali with a 50% or 25% disorder rune ? I mean we can have an humorist who gives fun during fest, etc... My question is more centered on Eurmal cult impact (link with the god, not others cultists) than what the runes could drive. From a drama perspective , not dice rolls I fully agree with the no unified priesthood Will Eurmal (the god) punish his follower if he the only trick he does is nice joke ? your eurmaly may vary. But are there limits ? i mean, if I vary my glorantha by putting space marines in prax, I believe a lot of you will say I m no more in glorantha, to far (and it will be fair from my opinion) In any story, games, ... a vampire characteristic is the desire of blood (depending the story your vampire would fight again her desire or not but that is a characteristic) Is there such characteristic for eurmali, because they just embrace Eurmal cult (whatever the runes) ?
  5. my view : you can try the headshot, so apply the modifier if you roll is not a fumble (with your modified skill) you hit the body : if your roll is under your skill (modified) you hit the head, if not, you roll for the location
  6. Hello all I am exploring how to play an eurmali and I would like to know the range of possibility of interactions with the orlanthi protector Yes the eurmali is a trickster but in the stories I read a lot of "stronger" things happen and I don't know if it is a one off event, a standard event or a fate impossible to avoid (except as usual illumination, heroquest, blablabla) for all eurmal follower So some points, for each I know (believe ?! ) that of course they can, they are eurmal, but must they ? must they betray their "master" ? (a big betrayal, like lightbringer quest) must they betray their community ? (like death bringing, desacralizing a temple, ...) must they hurt physically a friend ? (or someone from the community) must they use joke to hurt socially, or moraly a friend / someone from the community must they disobey their master ? must they be selfish ? or other "bad" thing. For example can a jester be a good person, never hurting anyone with his word (except by accident - or fate ?) , always accomplice with his friend-master, helping people in need, working hard, etc... and be a good eurmali. I believe "not"
  7. until a duck becomes alchimist, discovers that a beak is based on keratin and can be assimilated to a beard
  8. Pourquoi les américains ont choisi l'anglais plutôt que le français comme langue des US, le monde serait meilleur autrement... I m not sure that nobody did it before. After all what about pent tribes ? but in another hand you have the kolati tradition in sartar for shaman. Not sure it would be appreciated to see shaman organizing something with Orlanth. In all case I cannot see a shaman in sartar improving his social status by any way except gaining bigger power than his neighboors.
  9. the ultimate munchkin is to be at the same time the GM and the player or maybe to play ouroboros...
  10. good point let's say my sentence make sense for god-talker then ! but the price must be high to obtain an allied spirit too
  11. I would use the same view than rune spell (with the x2 rate) 1) that's for me the only issue, i may be wrong but : 2pt -> you can summon spirit like 1 POW divine magic (aka 3D6 magic points) 4pt -> you can summon spirit like 2POW divine magic (aka 3D6+6 magic points) 6pt -> you can summon spirit like 3POW divine magic (aka 4D6+6 magic points) then the magic points are used to overcome the spirits points (3d6, 3d6+6, 4d6+6, ...) 2) once here the spirit does what it wants (except any control spell) it can stay , attack, go back, etc 3) I disagree to see one player with ton of magic but if there is. The magic points needs depends on your strategy (the point 1) of course you can burn 100 MP to be sure to summon a little sylph if you want. 4-5) There is nothing to dispel but to disturb. When you are summoning, you can be block by any means (sword, spell, ...) why not dispell but I don't know the effect it can give (in this case dispell must follow the point 1 to identify how many points you need) . You cannot dispell the spirit when it is here. 6) I consider you can summon for "yourself": it is active because until the spirit is here you need to concentrate on this action. When it is here, it is here. You don't have to be concentrate then, so you can start another action.
  12. he is not alone 😛 p278 now (RQG), initiates are so powerfull (pool + reuse rune spell) than I see god talker , rune lord and priest more as an occupation. This occupation give you more social power but need hard requirements : 18 POW, 90% skill, time dedicated to the community IN the community (not in adventure with few exception). I don't see any reason for gameplay to give these positions easier to reach
  13. I see sacred time like an "half" season from a mechanic perspective : roll experience check "in adventure" (including worship one time) do not roll eexperience check "between adventure" I see sacred time not as a season from a glorantha life perspective Sacred time is different : you are working to save the world, you are making extraordinary things (understand extraordinary as not your daily occupation) you are experiencing greater things, greater magic, etc so yes you can learn (experience) more, but no, you cannot improve your occupational skills because you are not working as usual
  14. There is a very important word in your sentence, and this key word is exactly what I mean : you STILL continue. That is what I say : illumination make you STILL you but "bigger", in the way you were, but now, with less limits (cultural, religious, personal) you had before. It is like you see now the world with one less mask and, as your own limits disappear too, people can see you with one less mask So maybe you were good because your community / family / friends expect you to be good, but now you are illuminated, you understand you don't need to be good, that doesn't make sense for you Or maybe you were good just because you were good and now you are illuminated you are still good, maybe more good, maybe too good I maybe you were a broo and you were bad because your community expect you to be bad, but now you are illuminated, you understand you don't need to be bad. Or maybe you were a broo and you were bad just because you were bad, and now you are illuminated you are still bad of course I simplify with good / bad approach, but the reality is more multipolar (french touch )and a large spectrum of fealings can follow this approach
  15. Or not. Should a woman have the same role than man ? Should human kill animal for food ? Should human kill animal for god sacrifice ? Should human test new drugs on animal to save human life ? Should human test cosmetics on animal to please other human ? Should human destroy a wood for money ? Shoud human build house near a sea coast, blocking other access to the beach ? Should human buy diamands when other humans need food ? Should human kill human for war ? for god sacrifice ? Should human have a bath every day, week, year, when other need water to live Don't answer , just imagine people who do the opposite thing that you consider good. Are they all sociopath ? Are they less human than you ? They may have experience, tradition, or value different than yours. But at the end of the day they are humans. Human you may illuminate, or human who may illuminate you, or not
  16. My view is when illuminated, you don't accept as a truth what is said by the community, good or evil. You can see / understand something else, something new (as society is very very conservative). what you knew before still exist ( gods, ...) but you discover that if you don't follow their rules, they have less power on you. what you discover/understand can be different that what another illuminated discover/understand. But you know, of course, that if you are not in the limit of your community, you may be seen as a evil person. then, if you are strong and a good person, you may continue living in your community, accepting others are different but are people. They don't see and cannot learn what you understand but they are your familily, your friends, your community. You try to stay with them. then, if you are weak or a bad person, you may consider others not as people but as prey or threat, and becoming day after day more sociopath, trying to escape danger (real or not), trying to obtain power / pleasure (anything you consider your own right) by all means. I would say that illumination break limits, so you become "more you ". In a Freudian perspective, you lose a part of your "superego", you may keep your "ego" (if you are strong enough) or not, and your "it" take the room lost by your "superego" an "ego" (don't challenge me about freud, I have not enough notions to say that's good/true or not)
  17. I agree and it could easily explain why eurmali are not really welcome. If people are able to do so powerfull things based on "nothing" you cannot trust them
  18. without rules I would manage it like that Illumination power is activated like a "spell" based on this passion Illumination capacity to break religion rules would succeed if an opposite roll between god devotion and illumination passion But I m waiting for gogagogogagagog before decide anything !
  19. I agree weekly holy replenishing (? is it a word ?) is excessive but... in the other hand If we assume PC go adventuring each season, and need to replenish their pool between each season (I m not sure that is a good thing, but it seems to be the "average gameplay"), it is difficult to manage holy days for all gods in the same period and define that each scenario must start after the "hot hot replenish" period and finish before the next "hot hot replenish period" (not sure I m clear with my words sorry) Having a weekly window to replenish is good for that (you can start when you want your scenario) Adding a rule that you can participate all holy day you want but can replenish your pool ONLY one time per season / year / other would be great. If it is not canon, it is a GM responsability to manage as the party plays. I will not GM or play in a group having fun with pc able to one shot cacodemon or with more magic point than Leika (RQG) or Solanthos (RQ 2/3? ) with all the support off their community (colymar tribe / sundome in prax) and treasure just because that's not my pleasure. But I can understand others play differently. So My glorantha: - lot of people are initiates. Who is not initiate is following another way (shaman, sorcery, or I don't know) - lot of people are initiates with their occupation patron : a sartarite farmer ? Orlanth the plower (father ?) or Barntar, but not thunderous, not adventurous (so no war magic) Why ? because the social pressure ! (from who ? the GM ) A cottar who wants to join Orlanth the warrior is a danger for the community, at least for the elite. A cottar who wants to join Orlanth the thunder is a danger for the priest family (how my son can become priest if there are 20 people who can become priest ?!) - initiates can regain rune power but need : to spend a full day to obtain a priest (or about) to lead the ceremony (so if it is not a great date, pc give favors, gold, cow, or I don't know what). Priest (GM) has other thing to manage than just give "free" power to pc - pc can trade spell if : a PC has the trade spell (Issaries) or a priest agrees to manage it (GM choice) another PC wants to exchange the spell with the first one or a npc wants (GM choice) I am pretty sure that, in my glorantha, "loan my own god power to someone who doesn't share my faith, just because he/she ask" is a little bit considered as a god offense. Then what we have : pc are exception not because the rule, but because they have access to "elite" subcults/magics pc can replenish their magic power to be able to play scenario in good condition (if the scenario doesn't need full magic power, well the priest is away, if the scenario needs it, the priest has a dream and organize a full day ceremony) pc can trade spell because a scenario or as a reward for good RP or I don't know what, not just because the rules. that's my RQ:G, without any home rules, just a "home" glorantha.
  20. my main issue on divine spell is not the rules, points, effects but just a "self service" god powers. I would try something like the God (the GM) accepts or not the use of the spell. It is not a spell own by the initiate (use sorcery or spirit magic for that), it is a spell loaned to the initiate. There should be more situations where transform into a bear is acceptable (any "raging" situation) than kill someone just by will (fix an "unfixable" situation).
  21. I think the "opposed" word was not about the "opposed rolls rules" but more : A (150%) and B (60%) attack C so C's parade is reduced only to block A's attack. The C's parade against B's attack is not reduced (except -20% depending who is paried first)
  22. there are two things : 1) the runes here we dispel the death. So attack by another rune than death should be a variant of this spell 2) the name of the spell then the name: here we ward the weapons, so death by another thing than weapon should be a variant of this spell I m ok to say there are some precision about spell creation but let's follow the intent of the mechanics more than the sentence
  23. as a bow trance, you have to use your bow for its main purpose (shoot arrow) as an axe / sword / club trance, you have to use your weapon for its main purpose (so attack and parry ) but not use a shield, for example. It is only my view, what I feel about a weapon transe, you are focus on / one with your weapon, that s all
  24. I would say you cannot not flee, you have to finish the fight you cannot ignore what you see, you have to destroy it but if there is no fight or nothing to see... you can prepare expedition with others to destroy bigger chaos But you gain One point: I understand now why stormbullers are so often drunk, it is just to avoid any answer to your question !
  25. your fetch is a part of your soul, not the allied spirit. If your fetch is destroyed you are dead. If your allied spirit is destroyed, you are still alive (my memory about a story from an Issaries Priest in sun dome, in the oriflam version) I see more analogy between allied spirit and adventure comrade (PC or NPC) The question could be, what happens if you sacrifice POW to someone/thing
