Please make suggestions as to how one might get a teaspoon of Mistress Race Troll tears.

Maybe there is a Hero Quest to where one of them are sad?

What makes a troll cry?

Get her right after she had to leave Wonderhome, because Yelm came down into the underworld and burnt everything down.
I suppose that had made even Mistress Race trolls very sad (besides making them furious).

What the goddess swallowed that day was illumination. I don’t think a healing spell can fix that.

Was just guessing as to the steps of the Hero Quest... the PC's can try to get close to the troll in an attempt to get the tears (no idea how, maybe they just ask) and  while attempting to heal (no chance of success unless a critical and even then it repercussions are not strong, not like a Gold Wheel Dancer's spirit coming back...)

What would Hero Quested Troll tears powers be?

If I recall some of the material correctly, you might not bring back physical things from the quest; instead the point is what you experience. learn, and internalize. which often leads to magic.  So what do you learn from seeing a troll goddess or demigodess crying. up close and personal? From touching the tears?

Maybe you learn compassion, maybe an increase in your Harmony rune, maybe a unique magic that resembles some of the Issaries or Chalana Arroy rune spells.

But if you do bring back tears it is the essence of sadness or of pity.  Or maybe % in troll lore or insight(Uz).

Grief! Deep, unrelenting grief that might even cause other gods to weep or cause mortals to fall under the shadow of the darkest, most debilitating depression.

Being reminded of the Curse of Kin.

Listening to a song and realising that it is not the lost fertility song of Korasting.

The touch of fire.

Yes and no... firstly, it will depend on the GM. It's certainly been a possibility with previous versions. (logically, if you go in with physical items, then it makes sense that you can leave with them as well. Similarly, if your physical items (or yourself) can be damaged there, then again it suggests things can be taken back!

Secondly, you can transform a physical item you bring with you (again, logically from the above if you/they can be damaged, they can be transformed).

What Sten says can be true even if sometimes what is brought back is physical — Arkat, Sheng, the Bat … all worryingly similar! — all it requires is that it is possible that what you bring back is wisdom. Probably, it is better if you bring back wisdom and not an item of power — better for your spiritual development and better for the safety of the people around you. 😉

I dont have the material with me but in the sun county there is a rune lord (Belvani ?) who get back a fire crystal from an heroquest. The temple owns the crystal but the rune lord can use it. (If i remember)

I think that the ratling wind, and other magical gear come from heroquest. However the main answer is what you describes (knowledge, passion, magic, etc...)

I  m not sure but I think I read somewhere that you come with a mundane object (for example a simple bag) and if you succeed, you may bring back a magical artifact (a bag full of winds)

Just curious, why would you want the tears from a Mistress Race troll? I would think it's almost easier to get them from a Troll goddess, if you're talking Heroquesting (as mentioned above).

And, who is intended to get them?? Which would also help answer your question... if it's a true troll, getting those tears from a Troll goddess would be relatively (as far as HQs are concerned) easy. If it's not a true troll, then it's going to be a LOT harder... (did Zorak Zoran cry when he touched the fire in HoG? Did any troll cry when first feeling the sting of Iron?)

Drops of Darkness — something like Styx water?

Perhaps, being straight out of Darkness — in the same generation as Styx, who precedes Zaramaka — he has no water in him (not even Styx kinda-sorta-water). I have no tear ducts, and I must weep. Lacking this outlet, perhaps he feels painful stimuli more intensely, and that is why he is such a grouch.

As to whether he “needs” to weep at the Hill of Gold, I suppose it depends on whether it is his encounter with foetal Aether seen from another angle, or whether it is just a distant echo of it. Fire will only catch him out once. How does one judge without time? If he is already scarred and hideous in the Hill of Gold myth, then he doesn’t feel the need to cry (or not any more than is normal for ZZ), and it is like taking candy from a baby — been there, done that, got the scorched T-shirt. But there is room to doubt that, of course.

Collecting the tears of Zorak Zoran — that would be an experimental heroquest and a half. Would the Godtime be recognisable after that? Would a weeping ZZ learn self-pity (making him even worse) or compassion (possibly improving things, but possibly holding him back from vital pitiless action)? Would Water still have the same lineage after such virtuoso retconning? These questions are above my pay grade, but I suspect even XU’s compassion is a clear-eyed, tearless one, so tread very carefully. 😉

what is the most difficult between meeting a mistress race in mundane world and meeting a mistress race in heroquesting (or a goddess after all even if they are not troll we can "do the merge") I have not the answer 🙂

If I had to get tears,

Mundane world tears:

1) find some wise people (LM or AA) able to tell me what could provoke emotion for a troll. (-> answer = music, poetry)

2) find some donandar master musicians and singers. The best way in my opinion to obtain tears from these desperate people is music. They love and protect good musicians so my team will be welcome (I consider trolls are those who lost their world, their way of life, their loving full darkness so yes they are desperate, even if a lot of them have never lived in this past)

3) find a thief or any specialist orlanthi with sandal of darkness and teleportation

4) be known by some good trollish queendom, and show after show, obtaining audience from priestess then a mistress race. If possible the musicial theme would be about these violent warriors and courageous mothers and clan chiefs who succeed all the trials of life but cannot find the happiness their ancestors were deprived by the bad sun.

5) once a show with a mistress race, send the orlanthi near the target. Start the show, and prey the gods to touch the MR's hearth. Let's the orlanthi "catch" the tears and go back.

6) if all is fine, leave the trolls in good term. If there is any issue, leave the trolls with donandar food as compensation.

heroquest world tears:

1) find some wise people (LM or AA) able to tell me what could provoke emotion for a troll. (-> answer = music, poetry)

2) find an orlanthi attempting the sandal of darkness heroquest

3) plan the meeting with KL, the Orlanthi will not follow stealth or fight path but has to choose between seduction or music.

4) before the quest, get some harmony power (spell exchange, or maybe some companion) depending on your strategy. Uleria (Community, Erotocomatose Lucidity or Unity or a combination), Donandar (unfortunately don't see emotional spells,I would expect that from this god, so after that, house rule if you want)  seems to me good providers of tears.

4)do the quest, meet the goddess, play your score, create feeling, comme back with tears and sandals

@mfbrandi's post above made me think of a MUCH easier way.... not K, but XU! Xiola Umbar must have shed so many tears that there'd be a veritable ocean of them somewhere down in the underdark!

XU is _not_ a mistress race troll, she is not even descended from the Hellmother.

Just saying she is a troll goddess.

But is she a weepy goddess, or is her compassion unsentimental and dry-eyed — tough love all the way? No one likes a sentimental illuminate, but we all love Sister Xiola of the Solar Secret.

A particular alchemist needs the tears for a very potent elixir, maybe they are used to make dark-sense contact lenses or a substitute for Styx water to be placed in the tip of an arrow to kill vampires?

At least there are some path to styx ideas already described : http://www.soltakss.com/hquest13.html from  @soltakss   the glorious, some idea about the meeting with styx there http://www.soltakss.com/styx1.html, you will find a lot of great ideas in this site )

I think any research in a LM library may offer a "plan" for the pcs (find a location why not x, y or z then enter the gate and ...)

I have viewed Mr. Phipp's page in the past (I like a lot of the material) but am still not knowledgeable enough as to Hero Quests...

Curious as to the effects of Mistress Race Troll tears being used to quench the thirst of Sword Death just after being forged in Hell? What about Styx water?
