Snork
New player to RQG wants to play an Esrolian assassin Looking for ideas on possible occupations and cults
soltakss
Babeester Gor is a good one for female PCs who want to take revenge on despoilers of the earth/women. We played Humakti Assassins once, swords for hire who challenged their targets to honourable combat. Orlanth is a good Assassin cult, in many ways, as Adventurers tend to have few scruples. Eurmal might be an interesting choice, as he stole Death. I use Krarshti Courtesan Assassins who get jiggy abnd then cast Sweat Acid to burn every location in contact with their skin. I have also used female earth cultists who know Second Mouth and Swallow, but that is only relevant if you know what those spells do. 2 Quote Simon Phipp - Caldmore Chameleon - Wallowing in my elitism since 1982. Joerg
Does your player want to play an independent assassin or a killer in the service of an Esrolian house playing at high stakes politics (possibly as a vassal of one of the most powerful houses)? In either case, Orlanth might be a good choice, with spells like Darkwalk and Scarf of Mist. Orlanth is often seen as a sinister deity in Esrolia, and this character could take all the bad stuff they have to say about Orlanth (and Kodig) to heart and act upon that, though possibly under orders of his Grandmother (who will disavow him at some point in the future, possibly sending her other minions after him - that's what happened to Rastagar, the last Vingkotling king to rule over Esrolia). 1 Quote Telling how it is excessive verbis
g33k
I think some of the queries in this thread are useful. "An assassin" is maybe too broad for a useful answer... Are you envisioning a "lone wolf" outsider? Or a loyal servant or a Great House? Devoted Cultist (of an assassin's cult)? Or ... ? They don't know enough of the world to know. They're coming from other RPGs so they want a sneaky, backstabbing thief Think Esrolian Orlanthi follower with thief background Exiled or escaped to Sartar

An Eurmali focused on the Murderer aspect of the trickster is another possibility. Or a small spirit cult like Blackfang (either with same or different rune spell) is another option.
jeffjerwin
Or simply an Esrolian worshipper of Orlanth Adventurous, who is also a thief god (particularly in Nochet)... Also Yinkin can be a thief god.

(I just think that d&d has artificially/mechanically enhanced the viability of thieves to fill a dps role unjustified in real life; RQ has never done this.) I'm aware of the difficulty in managing their expectations They've experienced one combat which ended badly for their Humakt Warrior
jps
The Black Fang Brotherhood (p378 core book) could be a good choice too. As for occupation, Thief or Warrior are obvious choices but almost any occupation could do since anyone could seek vengeance upon something/someone.

Wrestlepig
Argan Argar might be a good choice. His darkness magic would be very handy, although the cult skills probably aren't relevant.

I could see the occasional assassination of an intransigent warmonger, maybe... but I just don't see it as an assassin-cult. Pentallion
The Eurmal spell Strike gives players coming from D&D the most thief/Assassin like feel. If that's what they're looking for, that's the best way to go. Trickster assassin.

Strike and Fumble are a great combination, RQG doesn't have the latter unfortunately.
