  1. Yes, this is an idea for a post I've had for quite some time. Actually, within civilised areas, Táng dynasty times were probably less "wild" than under later dynasties, especially when the central government couldn't guarantee peace over the whole empire [which is what the Mandate of Heaven was all about]. For instance travelling even on the main roads of the Empire under the Sòng was tantamount to exposing oneself to being robbed -- hence most travel was by the many waterways. Under the Qīng it was so much worse and banditry was so widespread that the biāojú escort agencies came into being (see p41 of The Celestial Empire).
  2. I would say the ones with a full story are superior to the ones with several short stories but except for this caveat, they are frankly all very very good. So you may safely pick any one of them. I would also recommend you read them in the chronological order rather than in the order in which they were written. Meaning you should start with The Chinese Gold Murders
  3. Hi all I have just posted about Dragon Bones on my TCE blog. I am looking for a good idea as to what their power could be in a fantasy campaign. Any ideas? Cheers
  4. Good! Do not hesitate to bug me with questions Also do not forget to regularly check my blog (in my sig) -- I update it daily.
  5. No, I've directly used the superpowers as per the BGB. What about comparing already-existing superpowers with similar spells, and try and expand this to the other spells?
  6. It is indeed customary in BRP games to singularly devise each magic weapon. You may however go for a D&D-esque approach and convert each +1 into a +5% (I wouldn't recommend this, though). You may find a few interesting ideas here: http://www.basicrps.com/links/bryan/convert5.html
  7. I agree 100%. You could use the CoC supplement "Secrets of Japan". Although it is set in the 21st century, it does feature the onmyoji + a lot of other cool stuff. And it is culturally & historically correct (if you remove the mythos stuff, that is)
  8. Not at all. This was very interesting. Once I have done some research in my Osprey booklets about the Taiping & Boxer rebellions, I may re-use some of your text for a future post on my Celestial Empire blog. Are you OK with it?
  9. Sorry, trying to revive this thread because of my Celestial Empire related blog, on which I would like to publish a post dedicated to the 19th century weapons used in China. My book only features the rifled musket; I'm sure there were more. My problem is that I am a complete ignoramus in the field of firearms.
  10. Thanks to all. Since I do not use fatigue points, I'll try and come up with something involving Stamina rolls.
  11. Hi Are there any rules in any of the BRP books/supplements covering the effects of heat on a character who carries heavy armour?
  12. The Chinese used both linen and papier mâché armours. They were pretty popular in hot, coastal areas, where metal armour would have probably driven a warrior mad
  13. It's still better than nothing... (especially for old skoolers). When is it available?
  14. Page 176 clearly states: You can spend five power points to re-roll any percentile dice roll when the results are unfavorable. Your player characters must have had loads of fate points to be able to negate every fumble!
  15. At 100+ pages, Uruk is a hefty setting. Translating it would be a major endeavour. There are hence no plans to do that as a "labour of love" in the short term. However, if you manage to convince a publisher that an English-language versio of URUK might sell, the situation would become much different
  16. Erm... BRP Rome is designed for games set under the Republic, not the Empire!
  17. BTW I have made the GIF available on my web-site: http://www.basicrps.com/links/brspchart1.gif (I can remove it if the OP disagrees with my hosting it)
  18. Third entry: Chinese names for your characters. Plus the first blog entry is now graced by a new illo by Dario!
  19. I have added a second entry, about the Chinese lunisolar calendar and converting from the Western to the Chinese calendar. I will try and post a new entry each day!
  20. If your game doesn't contemplate POW gain then I'd say 1 permanent POW is a significant loss already. On the other hand, if your game does contemplate POW gain, then you should enforce 1 POW point sacrificed per sorcery spell level. Hope this helps.
