  1. Given its associated with the moon and rising waters, it wouldn't surprise me if the Oasis of Moonbroth was related to the Blue Moon, and the waterspouts are related to the blue streak's pull on the tides. There could be Selenes found there, along with blue moon stones, and the mysterious spirit who prophetises there may herself be a powerful intelligent Selene.
  2. In HQ1, etc, nodes were "regions" within the sorcery plane/essential world/world of forms where different runic energies mixed, which appeared to those experiencing them (a purely mental/spiritual viewpoint, as they were beyond physical bodies) as representations of a saint's residence (or the home of a founder of a wizardry school). These nodes were connected to other ones, either of associated saints/school founders, or with smaller nodes representing specific spells, where they would learn them. On page 161 of the guide is a diagram of various otherworlds. The circles seen there would presumably be examples of these nodes.
  3. I'm betting a lot of "minor" deities usually get worshipped as subcults/associated cults. "Guy who sits at the top of the sky dome" included. Major Temples have a shrine to one associated cult and Great Temples have shrines to all of them (RQ:G 284)
  4. Probably not helped by the fact that Polaris is sometimes the father of the Lightfore (Glorantha Sourcebook page 98)
  5. So Chen Durel, instead of practising mummification has instead got the funeral rite of marinading? Well, given the troll fondness for insects, I could actually see them having mellified men there.
  6. One of the weirdest things I find in Glorantha, is that despite so many temporal positions being linked to spiritual ones, you still have specific groups specifically mentioned as theocracies. It's kinda odd since it seems more important to note the few that aren't.
  7. I think there's a lot of mileage to go on here. The Archexarchs of the Masses and Works as similar to the tjati/vizier and similar posts, the exarchs themselves being nomarchs. The Retirement Towers of Sun County seem to be a form of living mummification, similar to sokushinbutsu. Walling yourself off to slowly die with the blessings of the sun. My guess is this kind of living mummification may also be practised by the priests of Dayzatar, and that Dayzatar maybe a divine form of it.
  8. Whoops, I meant 157, my mistake.
  9. What's the reference for this? The nearest I can find is the RuneQuest: Bestiary which mentions the opposite on page 157 (although it does say they aren't interfertile with horses, but are with wild zebras)
  10. It's also likely there's another major centre of worship for her even further north. Her sacred Mountain (known either as Inora or the Maiden) is in the Rockwoods between Ralios and Fronela, and Arnmorn (eastern Jonatela) and maybe even northern Lankst would share a connection to it. Well it's a very interesting case, especially as the White Princess of Prax is more of a fertility goddess, bringing life to the Chapparal. (NG 47) If it wasn't for their different seasons and such, I'd say she seems more like Voria than Inora.
  11. I would answer that question with another question. Is there a difference?

    Lascerdans

Sorry to resurrect the thread, we finally have a new picture of a Lascerdan!
  13. On the other hand, the rules on 331 do say "A sound illusion cast upon a noisy target masks contradicting noises, and the same is true with contradicting tastes, smells, sights, etc." With the final etc presumably referring to both contradicting motion and substance. Therefore, while a doorway itself may not be possible, an illusionary door you can open, (using substance and sight) presumably could be. If you use an illusion of a bowl of petunias where you're standing, the rest of you would presumably count as a contradicting sight being masked. This would presumably be part of why Become [Other Shape] can make your size smaller, as the other bits get masked. It's also why Hallucinate is probably one of my favourite spells, nothing like Hallucinating something only you can use (such as a doorway in a wall, a rope to climb out of a hole, or a pleasant tasting meal when all you're eating is stale bread.)
  14. And of course Grazelander hunters are in an even worse state as their hunter god doesn't teach any useful skills. (And of course, Odayla, Yinkin and Foundchild also don't teach Animal Lore, one of the Hunter's most important skills for their livelihood. Which would probably make Lhankor Mhy as good a starting cult for them.)
  15. And then there's Sever Spirit. Sure it probably won't save your life if unsuccessful, but since it "acts as a sword" maybe a case could be made about the ward protecting against the damage of an unsuccessful casting.
  16. I think the problem is then that Ward Against Weapons never specifies that it only applies to physical attacks. It may be intended to do so, the name suggests so, but the spell never actually qualifies what it defends against, only referring to damage. And if we rely on the idea that "Oh, obviously it's only weapons that would be affected" then we get into other problems. Do shields bypass a ward against weapons when used offensively? It's not a weapon by nature. Would it protect against being trampled by a chariot? Is it intent that matters? Is a rock which is throne a weapon, but a rock falling off a mountain not one?
  17. I personally disagree on the penetration aspect. Umath's realm would truly be the Middle Air, and it would make sense for Kero Fin to rise up to bridge the gap. Sometimes an eight mile mountain is just an eight mile mountain.
  18. And it does, by 1 point. I was assuming you were getting the doubled value from the weapon bit, because there's no other mention of the armour being doubled and it seems a big leap when the rules didn't say anything about it not being as normal. In fact it explicitly mentions that raw copper armour has the same armour points as bronze, and nothing about enchanting changing that.
  19. I see no reason why it would double its armour points, just because the weapons do. A normal suit of copper plate is probably still 6 points and 12 ENC, it's just that you can make it much lighter while only losing a tiny bit of its protection.
  20. Where's that usage found? I can't spot it in Sun County, where all Seek Sun Dome does is allow the user to see a gleam of gold on the horizon in the direction of the nearest sun dome. -- which really doesn't seem that useful in this circumstance. True, sloppy writing on my part, inter-temple letters of credit are a speciality of Issaries. That example one is only valid with the temple of Kyger Litor in Old Pavis, and would probably be useless if presented to the one in Crabtown (except for the aforementioned "getting killed for being an obvious trollfoe" use.) Etyries's cult has long been described as similar in terms to her father (to the extend of sharing magic in CoP), so it makes sense for her. Argan Argar maybe would have it in the Ralian chain, but it seems more ad hoc there. And of course the Lunar Empire and Safelster are of course mercantile and advanced enough for banking to be a serious thing there. I guess it just seems too fantastic (I know, I know) to me for a region that's been isolation from its fellows since early on in its history, to be able to create and cash in letters of credit with temples from far off lands.
  21. Letters of credit are effectively one of Issaries' special things (RQ:G 406), so I'd be hesitant about giving it to other cults, especially ones where trade isn't their main focus and temples have been separate for centuries.
  22. I believe S&S means "Sword and Sorcery" here. In other words, that standard cry of "fantasy's old hat, everything's a Tolkien rip off" that's still going strong today.
  23. This is something we see also in Glorantha as well. The emperor Anaxial is more properly Anaksial (as seen on page 349 of the guide).
  24. Honestly, that skill kinda seems a problem to me. As guys often hired to spread holy death throughout the world, surely sense assassin would keep detecting themselves?
  25. Would a similar case apply to Pavis as well? With his conquest and treaties with the elements to gain his elementals along with his various impressive deeds?
