  1. Hmmm... didn't fumble... but I did end up with a Jeff rather than a MOB. Like Simorgan I understand the effort being put into RQ:G, and love it even if my pocket book doesn't. And I'm also glad that its still in the "pipeline", but three years is a bit long to sit on a manuscript after announcing that it had already gone to editing and art. SDLeary
  2. Between both of us asking... and the crickets that I hear now... I'm going to say something happened and its not happening. What about you? 😕 Perhaps we need an actual Summoning to get them to look at this forum. Ickity Ackity oop! Oh oh squeak! Ah ah pffft! @MOB SDLeary
  3. Wooo! Nice! That, Mesopotamia, and there was a third... What was its name again? Its been so long! 😉 Status on that one? SDLeary
  4. There was talk sometime ago about a new version of Cthulhu Dark Ages, revamped for 7e. Chatter is that its not moving forward. Anyone have any info? SDLeary
  5. Perhaps? I'm simply postulating that the links that a theist or animist sees might not exist in the way sorcery is performed. Personally, I think that sorcery might be conceptualized as something akin to the DeepMagic rules from the Advanced Sorcery supplement for MagicWorld, but with a "ring" for each type of Rune. I'm out and about, so don't have things here, so can't really describe how it would work at the moment. SDLeary
  6. Elder Godlike is a supplement for Achtung! Chtulhu that attempts to add superpowers similar to those found in Detweiller,Stolze, and Ivey's Godlike game. Godlike is super powered WWII. Achtung! Cthulhu adds the Mythos to that, and tries to package it for Cthulhu. SDLeary
  7. Silly question. Would it work if you simply de-coupled the runes from one another? Why does sorcery have to maintain the oppositions? Now I will admit that I haven't reached the Sorcery section yet, so haven't read in detail the "theory" on it. It seems to me there was an empire that spanned the West, that probably did something similar to achieve their effects. SDLeary
  8. While I would love to see a new version of Superworld based on BRP, I have come to the conclusion that HQ is a much better engine for Supers type play; much better range on playable characters in such genres. The exception to this opinion would be if Chaosium decided to do a WoW release... that would be Worlds of Wonder. Say three perfect bound games in a slip case? Small (-ish) books of 128p each... we could call them MagicWorld, Superworld, and FutureWorld. 😁 SDLeary
  9. In the presented case, he isn't talking about localization cover either. No localizations in Stormbringer. SDLeary
  10. This could work instead of a straight 6AP... In fact, thinking about it, I kind-of like it. And don't restrict this to swords, because we all know how the Merry Men like their clubs and staffs. I would still probably take damage down to /8, just for a little more PC safety; and would also bring in Maille only counting half against maces, and extend it to said other bashing weapons. Damage after armor from Clubs and Staffs would be opposed by the targets CON rather than coming off HP. If the target fails, they fall down debilitated for a number of rounds equal to the damage score. SDLeary
  11. Yes, you can parry with a weapon. You cannot parry with a weapon on the same rank at which you attack however. With a shield (or offhand weapon) you can parry on the same rank as you attack. Shields provide the added benefit of cover from missiles (not parrying) SDLeary
  12. Shields... Small 6AP, medium 9AP, large 12AP, unshielded characters parry with their weapon, say 6AP, but with no protection against missile fire. Similar to PDP, but with an increase for weapon parry.. DEX... Special Combat Tactic – Evasion: Unarmored or Lightly Armored character may use their DEX to oppose an incoming attack. Success keeps character out of harms way; critical allows an immediate riposte. Target of the riposte can only defend. (Was thinking of uncontested riposte at first, but figured this was too powerful) Death mitigation... 0HP you fall unconscious (if you didn't prior to that point), deteriorating status gives you CON rounds, minutes, hours, days survival, depending on the type and severity of the last wound that took you to zero or below. Any negative value (damage that goes below HP) reduces the CON based time period for survival. Death mitigation 2... Merlin... (sorry)... Herne the Hunter pulls your bacon out of the fire at the last second as you lay bleeding on the field of battle. He transports you to his sacred cave and uses his ancient knowledge to heal you of your wounds in 1d6+1 days. 😁 Damage = (STR + SIZ) /8 or /10... as you've pointed out in the past, the latter doesn't give enough variation, but its an option. As for Shields and weapons, see above. Again, this is all just brainstorming. SDLeary
  13. If you search the forum, you'll see several discussions along these lines. My usual suggestion is to use the Hit Locations option in BRP, just use the listed values as severity thresholds; using multiples of the value to determine the actual wound severity. That way, you are still only tracking the one pool of points (general HP). For example, under the location value, its minor, just tick the points off the pool. Over, but under 2x, its severe, and under 3x its critical. Tick off points and use the effects listed for exceeding location values (don't have my book with me, so can't quote pages... but IIRC its all in the same callout box). That way, you are still only tracking the one pool of points (general HP). If you want some options for this, you could also say that rather than dying, characters fall unconscious at 0 hp; they are in a deteriorating state and have CON rounds, minutes, hours, days to survive without medical assistance. Vary time depending on type and severity of the wounds that took them to 0. Another option is to use the fragility of the head. ALL shots to a head require a roll on the resistance table (or opposed roll) of the damage that made it through armor, vs. the value of the head. They fail, they fall unconscious. And there is also Heroic HP, which makes these options a little less debilitating. SDLeary
  14. Being a BRP grognard, DEX as armor just seems wrong. Very DnD-ish. This is another brainstorm, I'm not really advocating it as all of this (footwork, body movement, etc) is already supposed to be subsumed into relevant combat skill. If you want to apply more DEX to the normal combat calculations, then why not simply invoke a "Defense" mechanism, that uses DEX to reduce chance to hit? Defense = DEX/4; in addition a character with SIZE in the range 15-17 would be –1, 18-20 would be –2, to this score. I would also probably include negatives for Encumbrance. This score would be applied as a negative modifier to the character "attacking". (Yes, I'm kind of taking this from RQ2... I would incorporate more, but the relevant characteristics don't exist in Pendragon ) SDLeary
  15. Something quick and dirty... What about using DEX in opposition to a missile attack roll? Partial Success, half damage; Critical, no damage. You wouldn't have to alter Armor at all, and while not an ideal solution, would allow the game to fit the story better. For this I'm thinking that armor would slow you down too much, so you would have to be unarmored to try this. In addition, the target must know about the attack; they need to be able to see their attacker to try and time things right. SDLeary
  16. In Dorset is Dorchester (Durnovaria). Not the best source (its what I've got at the moment) in the world, but the intro on Villa from Wikipedia: and... There was the Villa Urbana, which was close to a city, and Villa Rustica, which were the large independent rural farming/production centers that we normally think about. Its simply my thought that a Roman Knight would live at one of the former, due to the nature and space requirements of horsemanship, and assuming that most reduced cities don't have available grounds for proper training (they would have stable, but not a space big enough for proper equestrian drilling). This villa is probably not owned by the knight, but his lord. But then I'm weird, and also use the earlier timeline, with Badon around 495. SDLeary
  17. If they were on the lands that the city controlled, yet were on a villa outside the walls, they would still be considered from the city. In this way they have roughly the same living conditions as their Celtic equals (though of course they consider themselves better). They would visit the city more often, escorting their lord to his duties, their ladies on excursions to the market, or attending council themselves, assuming they have enough status. In this way, they already fit into the frame laid out by K&L, and the older editions. SDLeary

    Update?

Hello! Is there an update on this title? Its still listed as coming on the web site, but its been a while since any official word. Thanks Much SDLeary
  19. Or they could be from the rural areas of the cities lands and live/work on a large Villa, and only visit their city when necessary? Thus they would have a lifestyle much closer to the nobles from the non-romanized Britons, and fit into the game as noted? SDLeary
  20. Hey, not just Eurocentric... many of us in the US simply can't make it either! I suggest just putting it on the store and letting us purchase it! 😉 SDLeary
  21. <snark> Nah, still going to be only two, but they are going to be the size of The Guide now</snark> 😉 SDLeary
  22. "The Great Purge of the Shelves" has been underway, and I came across my Jack Whyte novels. Needless to say, I've had the thought of a campaign starting with The Great Conspiracy running through my brain. SDLeary
  23. Just an FYI... regarding the collapse of cities, this viewpoint is not considered as hard and fast as it was even just a few years ago. Many sites in recent digs show some evidence of a switch from stone to more perishable materials for building (read wood). As far as the Plague of Justinian is concerned... I'd pull the timeline forward, so that the Plague hits after the Lonazep Tounament (not a big shift), so that the beginning of the decline and the plague track each other... as does the fragmentation and fall of the countryside to the Saxons after.
