  1. So, cultists of Ernalda/Orlanth, Ernadla/Yelmalio, Dendara/Yelm and so on have 1 rune level for every 20 or 30 people, is that 1 for every married couple?
  2. Not really, Humakt and Babeester Gor are no more magical than Ernalda. In fact, a cult such as Humkt almost has the "1 in 100" built in, with a Century of worshippers having a Centurion, or the equivalent, as a Rune Level. Acolytes might be a halfway house for NCOs who support the Centurion. Most members of Humakt and Babeester Gor would be Initiates, or perhaps Lay Members. Only the devout and powerful would bother becoming Acolytes, Priests or Lords. Most jedis would be temple servants, researchers and so on, not everyone who trains as a Jedi becomes a Jedi Knight or Jedi Master, a lot of them fall away either due to lack of skill, lack of commitment or unsuitability. 5000 in Orathorn might mean there are 50 full Mages, certainly. A lot of the others would have some magic and power over the dead/undead, but wouldn't be full mages. I would be surprised if everyone in Orathorn was a Mage. I don't really agree. Martial cults don't really have more intense worship. I can see worshippers of Uleria or Minlister having far more intense worship than martial cults. Farming cults worship their hero or the land, that kind of worship is just as intense. A Witch Cult, such as Subere, is very magical by nature, but its worshiipers are not all at the same level. Many are learning their trade, many take years to get to a certain level of ability, some never do. Alchemists might seem more magical than other people, bnut they probably aren't. They might have some magic to help them manipulate/improve potions, but is that more magical than blessing a field to grow well, or making oxen plough all day? That is absolutely correct. A Great Temple has Priests, Lords, Acolytes and Initiates living there full time, probably hundreds of them. If a Great Temple has 10 Priests, that equates to 1,000 supporting worshippers, so the surrounding area probably has fewer acolytes and priests as they concentrate on the temples. Retired rune levels retain their magic but become semi-active. They probably retire to working normally. Gringle has retired to a pawnshop and is just a merchant, but is a retired priest.
  3. Members of cults can get some magic for free and some cheaper than normal. Prior experience can teahc magic as part of life experience. People can be taught magic as a reward for performing tasks or for long service. Not everyone who has spells has paid for them with hard cash.
  4. Probably not. In Call of Cthulhu, Investigators can be beginning characters, not optimised and not particularly skilled. A Pulp Cthulhu game has Investigators who are skilled at fisticuffs, shooting, climbing, jumping, swimming or whatever. Better skilled means more points to spend. If it bother you, just treat it as a different way of getting prior experience, just for a Pulp setting.
  5. What I do is to take an example and then run with it. Gondo Holst has a Warding built into a cart. I could make a cart with a Warding. Then, I remove the sides and leave the wards, so the warding still holds. I then remove the floor, around the wards, so the Warding still holds. I remove everything except the framework where the wards are and the warding still holds. I pick the framework up and the warding still holds. So, a hula hoop of warding is completely possible.
  6. Generally, I would say No, as a Spirit can only be in one place at once, so can only possess one person. However, there are examples where a Spirit can do exactly that, usually when worshipped as an ancestor and called in bny a cult to possess a worshipper. I think Firshala and Mistress Sazdorf could do this. If two worshippers called on the same ancestor/Founder at the same time, then they could both be possessed. If this absolutely does not work, then one worshipper could block another's attempt by pre-incarnating the ancestor. I don't see why not. Disease Spirits certainly spawn other disease spirits when they kill their host. If a Passion (Greed) Spirit possesses someone then leaves, the Greed Spirit could well leave a Greed Spirit behind.
  7. MRQII had Heroic Abilities that were inherited by Legend but dropped for Mythras, due to the personal preferences of the authors. As Raleel says, it should be easy enough to import Legend's Heroic Abilities without any real issues.
  8. Keeping track of multiple NPCs can be a nightmare, we used to have a sheet of paper and just record damage against each NPC, one per line. Keeping track of NPC powers can be even harder. Does broo#50 explode upon death? What happens if broo#49 dies, is he the one who attacks in sprit combat? I used to love putting several "Explodes upon death" NPCs together, hoping that the resulting chain reaction might finish off at least one PC. Several times in our old RQ2 campaign, the GM would carefully place 50 NPCs in the Chaos temple, look at his sheet, tut loudly, then take three off for the Invisible ones.
  9. To be honest, I was waiting for people with more experience at playing BRP to reply.
  10. If you have someone with a base skill of 25% and a Bonus of 30% then you exceed the Skill Cap without spending any points. So, I would assume the Skill cap ignores the Skill Category Bonus. You might be over-thinking this, to be honest. I would just give all Energy Pistols the same base chance, to get around this. Even if someone could do what you have suggested, good luck to them, it doesn't break the game.
  11. Just play the game and the rest will come. The party meets a bunch of nutters who rave on about killing Chaos, they find out they worship Storm Bull, so the GM mentions that Storm Bull was Orlanth's brother and killed Wakboth, the Devil. When a PC joins Orlantgh, the GM tells them about Orlanth, very quickly, and mentions the major cults who Orlanth helps/opposes. If they want to know more, or want to know quicker, point them to sources on the Internet, or prepare some sketches yourself.
  12. Ah, now I see the context, I thought it was a mythical question rather than a practical one. Several solutions spring to mind: Quest for Hippogriff's wings and gain the ability to fly (Hard) Re-Enact the lost EWF quest to create Hippogriffs (Hard) Find a demon, rip its wings off and give it to the demon steed (Easier)
  13. Thanks, that is a couple of days too early for me to easily make. What a shame.
  14. I am not sure if this is the right place or whether I should create a new Topic. My current camapign is heading towards bringing Arkat back and one of my players has asked me for a list of Arkat's HeroQuests. Easy-Peasy, I thought, as Arkat pretty much invented HeroQuesting, so he must have many HeroQuests. However, looking at a lot of sources, almost none of them are mentioned. From what I have gleaned, his HeroQuests include: Crusade Against Chaos (In the West, he pretty much invented the Mythical concept of a Crusade) Journey to Hell (Several times, different cults) Escape from Hell (as a result of Harmast's LBQ) His Father's Sword (Exploring the nature of his sword) Trollish Rebirth But, I cannot think of any more. I know that a lot of the History of the First Age describes the battles between Arkat and Gbaji, so some of the events were probably HeroQuests, but it's a lot to go through and I was hoping that people more dedicated than I had already done the legwork. I remember that Arkat was bound into Hell while opposing Nysalor, that must have been a HeroQuest, but it is very vague. Mello Yello also wants to incarnate the Palangio Iron Vrok, in case things go bad, so that Palangio can be used to face off against Arkat, if necessary. Sounds like a good idea, what could possibly go wrong?
  15. Any idea where/when Spaghetti Conjunction is going to be? I am free to go at the end of October, so I do hope it is in the last week.
  16. I had forgotten that Gamara/hippogriff was Yelm''s Steed before he rode Grandather Griffin, perhaps the betrayal was simply changing Steed. Hippogriffs were reborn, probably through HeroQuesting. The EWF brought back a lot of mythic beasts, so it was probably done then, maybe during the time of the Golden Dragon Emperor, when they messed around with Dara Happan Myths .
  17. I had a talking gorp in Dorastor, with the Chaos Feature "Sounds Extremely Dangerous", basically it told the deepest secrets of anyone it met, even though it was unintelligent and had no comprehension of what it said. It even told secrets known by no other, "Brankist, aren't you having a torrid affair with Solarus' wife? Bolgar, do they know you killed your best friend and bound his spirit into his own skin? Derak, aren't you illuminated?". There's a sci-fi show about Orville? Does he wish he could fly?
  18. In my Glorantha, Orathorn is the finger of a god of Death who escaped Hell and managed to reach the surface before being turned to stone. The Orathorn Sorcerers have powers of death and inside their castle is a mini version of Hell, where the dead can speak and walk about. They can temporarily possess corpses, can animate them and can control undead. There is a Hanging Room where hundreds of corpses hang, waiting for a sorcerer to possess them and speak to people. It was heavily influenced by Hellraiser ...

  20. Are they? I always thought they were hostile, friendly is fine, I suppose. Thanks for the correction.
  21. Of course, if the Yelmalian is an Elf, the Wind Lord could well eat him.
  22. I think David is working on a Prax supplement, so can put anything he wants into it. Also, David regularly posts on forums and does work for Moon Design/Chaosium, so definitely has the authority. Anyone who doesn't like changes made by Greg/Jeff/David/Whoever should do what I do - Consider them and if I don't like them I ignore them. By the way, if you ever get the chance to play in a HeroQuest game run by David, then do so, you'll enjoy it. 3% for Orlanth worshippers does seem high, 3% for the Storm Pantheon seems better, 3% for Storm/Earth Pantheon seems better still.
  23. Now perhaps, but the Troll supplement for HeroQuest had no real way for trolls to belong to cults not in the Darkness Pantheon.
