  1. Is Soulfire Touch or Self?? Because a Shaman with Spell Barrage would have a bit of fun. Speaking of shamans, wouldn't she just have a spirit cult, rather than a goddess cult?
  2. "improvised" could include the melee weapon they're holding... ๐Ÿ˜„ "What the...??? Why did you just throw your sword at him?" "I dunno... it just seemed like a good idea at the time."
  3. I wonder if that could mean something like throwing their melee weapon at you if they're on top of a wall while you're at the bottom...
  4. How would the referees kick the wyter? I mean, its spirit, not merely the physical housing...
  5. Let me rephrase... It should stop people acting irrationally when such things are attacking. Not necessarily any particular chaotic powers, just regular fear/terror.
  6. It sounds somewhat like a Face Chaos or Fearless .....
  7. I'd take that as a "combat situation". So, the gate keeper is trying to actively defend the keep, by keeping the gate shut. Casting Distraction should probably get them to forego their duty to keep the gate locked, in order to attack you... I'd say it's not only the change in attack target, but also a change of priority and a disregarding of orders. Except it's a spirit magic spell, so should be a max of 2 mins. (yes, it says 'Instant", but...)
  8. I don't understand why you would interpret it that way. Paragraph 1, basic effect. Paragraph 2, effects on spirits. Paragraph 3, effects on non-spirits. Sure, it would make more sense to have it on "corporeal beings" first, but if you do just change the order of those paragraphs 2 & 3, it's pretty clear what the intent is. The "Instant" is problematic, as per the munchkinnery above... how long would the target try to go for the caster? While they're within range? While they're within eyesight? What if neither is true? Would they expend effort to get to them? For how long? (normally, spirit magic is only 2 mins)
  9. I think what they meant to do was... Oooh, shiny!
  10. Two partially related questions to the thread... Firstly, will Issaries in the GaGoG have God Talkers? Secondly, has anyone ever taken the Priest occupation???
  11. No, not at all. But neither is the opposite unjustified. Also, you forgot Rune Lords can also lead worship services (although, personally, I see them more as doing so as the big special guest in a service mostly run - MCed, if you will - by the priest). I would also expect cult skills, including Worship and Cult Lore to be taught by God Talkers (and rarely, by a Rune Lord... Again, special guest type of thing). Since GTs and Priests have the same requirements, they should be equally capable. It does raise one question... Since a God Talker is equally competent as a Priest, if you decide that it requires instruction from the "priesthood" (and I would include God Talkers as part of the priesthood, effectively), then couldn't they also instruction/support the Initiate in the corresponding meditation etc for learning a new Rune Spell? (Since spell teaching here is a holy rite, they're not the different) (BTW, I see God Talkers as more like a volunteer priest... Someone who has most of the capabilities, but the temple doesn't want to pay them to keep them on full time. I also think the requirements (identical to priests) are too high... At least remove/reduce the POW requirement).
  12. Simple - the casting and effects of Rune Magic always (barring the rare exceptions) have various manifestations - lights, sounds, feelings, etc. Thus, a failed casting would be blatantly obvious. You would *know* your deity hasn't shown up! As for the GM advising before getting to that point - if the characters already have 3 RPs, and high skills, it could be presumed they've already tried it (is similar) before, and the GM could just "remind" them that it's not possible. Of course, the player could deny this latter, and then they could waste all that time for the spell to fail...
  13. I'm not sure that's true. In looking at p313, there is no mention of intervention or support by a priest (or other Rune Master). Also, I think it unlikely that shrines that give Rune Spells will usually be supported by a priest, and thus the Initiate is probably going to have to do it all themselves. (Yes, this is mixing the RP increase and the gaining of a new spell)
  14. Thanks (again) for an absolutely awesome series!!! I can't wait* for the next installment. (*Metaphorically, of course, not literally)
  15. 15... Sure (easy). 20... No problem... But 25??? Requires three 17s. From a 98 point buy, all at 1:1, could give 17, 17, 17, 14, 11, 11, 11... (or similar)
  16. 25% Category Modifier.... Is that some lucky rolling? Or some other stat allotment? (ie, min-maxxing?)
  17. Sounds like someone is confusing "limbs" and "arms", forgetting that legs are limbs as well...
  18. So, it's a good place to go for a date? (Is that pun too dated now?)
  19. You've really fallen for all that gobbledygook the Orlanthi priests have been feeding you... ๐Ÿ˜›
  20. I'm aware... The concept of a melee round being a summary of all the feints, jabs, parries, etc... Rather than an actual single attack... Never sat well with me...
  21. I was thinking that when reading @French Desperate WindChild's post regarding cultures. I'd be fairly certain no LM would ever use the term "sorcery" in Theyalan, to describe what they do. It's a shorthand (God Learner-ey) thing that we players do. So, LM "sorcerers" will be using their own (possibly unique) term to describe their god's manifestations of power... Which I'd expect all Orlanthis to be aware of and tolerant towards.
  22. Except that quicker strikes with magically enhanced weapons leads to higher damage - Although RAW doesn't allow for this ๐Ÿ˜ž There should be a mechanic for short, quick repetitive thrusts. And when there is, those 1D4 +4 (Bladesharp) thrusts 3 or 4 times in a couple of seconds are going to be nasty.
