  1. Completely agree here. Also agree here.
  2. Same for me. I had 12 years of fencing, and with foil, you are allowed to hit only the torso of your opponent, so you can have to wait a long time for an opening. In a real life combat, you don't have a problem hitting your opponent in the arm, because in the long time, it is an advantage, so you take every opportunity to hit, wherever it is (and in fencing, Epee is very much like this).
  3. Our current rule fixes a base price of 200L per POW, plus cost of the item. The 200L is because the casting of a 1 pt Rune spell is 20L and if 1 use, 10 times as much (so 200L) because 1 POW has to be spent to regain the RP. But other factors can modify this, like scarcity of the spell (because the enchanter has to know the spell, so if he has to learn the spell, the cost of the spell has to be added), or the quality of the item.
  4. I don't know what is the exact original text, but in your version, there is a capital G to God, meaning 'Our God, the one we worship'. There would be no capital G if the meaning were to be that no divinity existed.
  5. And in french, the Faro game is called ... Pharaon, meaning 'Pharaoh'.
  6. Right, but don't underestimate the power of a good ol' flamethrower (or sword, or atomic bomb).
  7. Not completely different to what we have here on earth.
  8. Yes. The way I see it, both duelists are able to stop their duel, kill the intervening person together, and restart their duel afterwards.
  9. Yes, correct. What I meant is that 'the combination of EF and QR' was a great innovation.
  10. Agreed on the personal tastes. My BRP of choice was RQ3 'til I shifted to RQG. I have also played RQ2, SB, Hawkmoon, CoC, Ringworld and Superworld, but my favorite is RQ3. The highest I have seen in all my groups is (unmodified by magic) around 150%, so consistent with your experience. No, you can't, because you can not deviate even slightly something that is vastly heavier than yourself just with your weight, your movement and the help of an instrument, be it a broadsword, a mace or any shield. You can only dodge it. When you have 2 knights charging each other with lances, they are almost bolted to the horse, and the opponents weight is similar (weight of the horse + wheight of the knight, including armor). Agreed, BRP is not good at simulating jousting. Exactly my point, Joerg.
  11. Yes, ease factors and quality of success were great innovations of JB007.
  12. For the ancient greek, nudity was not a problem, and was even a religious obligation in some cases, but when going to war, they wore a cuirass or a linothorax. I believe Orlanthi and Ernaldans behave the same: Nude or partially nude if weather allows for it, but as covered as possible when a combat is expected.

  14. Correct. A humid finger is sufficient, but an Orlanthi divination can confirm.
  15. Yes. That means my proposal would be more correct with: You can not parry an attack made by someone whose SIZ is more than 8 (or 10, or 20, or whatever number) higher than yours. This is less a problem because it is much less frequent to have POW with more than 15 points of difference than SIZ with 20 points of difference (not counting CoC entities), even if we count only real current animals (just try to parry with anything a bison, a rhino or an elephant that charges).
  16. I do not suggest anything, and I know this is just an introduction (and am not reproaching it, your comment on the 5000 pounds is valid). What I said is that the world and the rules are now intertwined again, and as the book covers only a part of Glorantha, the rules have been made specifically for this part of Glorantha. I meant that it would have been better to have a generic set of rules, valid for all Glorantha, and adaptation to the specific locales and cults. On the contrary, we have rules made for specific case (but presented as generic: Nowhere in the rules do you learn that the Yelm cult is only the one of the Grazelanders, and not also the one of the Dara Happans), and other books have to change everything (like in that case changing Yelm's runes).
  17. You can also (and more simply) say that you can not parry an attack made by someone whose SIZ is, say, 2 times yours. I give 2 without having done any calculation, just giving an idea. On your proposals, I would choose the voluntary 2:1 ratio. Voluntary meaning that the attacker chooses the difficulty of his attack (and can decide to take no penalty at all, having his full percentage of attack, special and critical), and 2:1 (according to what I have understood of your post) meaning the defender's parry being reduced by half the penalty chosen by the attacker.
  18. I don't think skills over 100% are a problem. At least, none of my groups ever had a problem with them, and I don't see any reason to reduce the rate of progression (that is already very slow). The problem lies with the way some of BRP games are managing them.
  19. This is a perfect example of why linking the rules and the world is an error. We should have rules, and adaptation to specific locales and cults, not rules that describe only a tiny set of people and ignore completely the rest.
