Manu
I wonder how the Cult of Silence could spread? How can you explain the righteousness of the philosophy if you cannot speak? And it seems that even books are not allowed for this Sect (as they walled up books and libraries)?

metcalph
An aura of peace. Mental communication (implied by someplaces banning even that). Novices (those who has not yet taken the vows of silence) doing the preaching. Good shit and forcible surgical mutilation (Silent Militant Only). Richard S.
Er, sorry if this is common knowledge, but what is the cult of silence? Serious question, I haven't heard of them.
AndrewTBP
It's an Umathela thing, in Pamaltela. See Guide to Glorantha pp.622 The Wordless Prophet appeared in Varburch in 1129.

Serious question, I haven't heard of them. An Umathelan cult that practices complete silence. In the Modern Age, they spawned a brutal Empire which conquered large parts of Fonrit. The Empire was crushed but they are still around. The most relevant material is in the Guide to Glorantha - Umathela chapter.
John Biles
The song Sound of Silence could easily be redone as a prophecy for that group.

Hmmm.... is there a cult uniform of hooped shirt, beret and whitened face?

Serious question, I haven't heard of them. Best references to it are in the Guide as Peter noted. It is a cult that believes that silence will create bliss and peace (and allow for proper meditation upon such). Some sects strove to destroy all forms of communication (including removal of relevant body parts) in order to help ensure and maintain silence.
