I think I have signed up for notices already. Can I have clarification that the Starter Set: 1) Is going to include PDF copy? 2) Is an imminent physical release, regardless, and will be sent out straight after payment (not a pre-order)? ta. Some sellers are offering it as a pre-order, but my understanding is that the timeline's ticked from "release later this year" to "it's shipping to the warehouses right now and has already arrived at some". So my expectation is that the next step is an actual physical release, to be sent out as soon as flesh, blood, and logistics companies can manage. They typically launch PDF's ahead of print (e.g. A Time to Harvest) and then launch print in a region as each region's warehouses receive it - RBoM shipped in most regions before it did in Australia. The Starter Set is a signature product for a core product line though and deserving of a global 'big bang' release to create impact. Speculatively, I'd guess there were two factors at play in the announcement of a date: The controlled release/sale of copies to reviewers, their mates and at Cons to create buzz was at risk of getting disconnected from the release itself as time ran on. Eventually commercial reality sets in and the desire/necessity of not missing the Christmas shopping window for the sake of being held to a self-imposed ransom by logistics in the UK. The decision to set a date and make 'best efforts' to drag Blighty over the line is eminently practical. That aside, I completely agree that the whole Brexit shambles is a mess of the UK's own making. We asked that and a lot of Brits said "publish anyway and we can wait", but Chaosium wanted to wait for everyone to have a copy. Apparently, some people can be quite nasty when something is published somewhere else in the world but is not available locally. The UK is a big part of their market, and they want the starter set to be "an event". Staggering the release - or releasing the PDF early - dilutes that. Having a few copies available at conventions and demonstrated online whets the appetites though, and gets people buzzed about it, so I also understand why that works even though it seems to run contrary to what I just said. Australia is a significantly smaller audience than the UK though. Furthermore, Australians are used to the tyranny of distance and so are better habituated to releases of all sorts of things - books, tv shows, movies, etc - often coming later.
