  1. I completely agree, Which is why in my opinion, combat has to be dangerous, otherwise we just chisel way at our opponents hit points, or wait for an unlikely critical while doing 1d6 damage points to an adversary who has 6 points of armour. If combat isn't dangerous players, are always willing to try it. I like the idea of guilds and factions but let's not have cults. There is another very popular Chaosium Bronze age game, just full of cults, (it's also very good), so if we want them we can just play that game instead.
  2. 1. Magic to be powerful rare and not universal, making it dramatic. 2. Combat has to be dangerous. 3. Questing: As in, I want to go from point A to point B across a rich magical mythological landscape for a really good reason. 4. Empires: whether Germanic or Romanic, I want the myth surrounding European history played out. 5. And seafaring, which probably means little or no teleporting, as that would defeat the whole point of getting on a ship, braving sea monsters and terrible storms in the first place.
  3. I'm not Australian, but; we all have best friends. One of mine, Jon lives just outside Melbourne in a rural area called the Patch. One of his neighbors told him that both of his sons are Volunteer firefighters and a few days after it all kicked off they hugged their mom and said that they'd be back soon and drove off to heaven knows where. They keep in touch and are okay. These are very brave men and women. I have no idea that those parents are going through. The residents of the patch have a phone APP so if they have to leave their homes everybody knows straight away. These are worrying times. Thank you Chaosium. This is a very noble gesture. I have forwarded my Chaosium email to my gaming group.
  4. I'm a little hazy on some details. Will this go to straight to PDF and maybe print or will you do a kick starter? Well, so far I've liked what I've Heard from the other posts, so either way count me in.
  5. Well thank you. With MW discontinued, it's things like this that keeps the game alive and makes GMing so much better organized.đź‘Ť
  6. This looks very interesting. I can't wait to give you my money.
  7. It is with the deepest sadness that we all heard this news. Gregg was one of the all time greats. His work speaks for itself, as simply the pinacle of excellence in the role playing industry. His wonderful cannon of writing brought pleasure to a vast number of players and fans. He will be profoundly missed.
  8. This is great. With MWs recent obituary, it all seemed a bit doom and gloom. Now I can reference the whole spell list and running sorcerers is just going to be so much smoother. A definite silver lining on a rather dark cloud. Thanks.
  9. I wonder if the MW licence will be a sort of Open Game Licence in the style of the WoTC OGL.
  10. Bib Rockthrower Orc STR: 15 CON: 11 SIZ: 9 INT: 12 POW: 10 DEX: 13 APP: 8 Descriptive features: Dirty and with a missing front left K9 tooth Occupation: Raider. Skills: Conceal item 47% Hide 62% Move quietly 47% Track 35% Scimitar 43% 1H Spear 33% Med shield 43% Background: Bib was part of a raiding party that attacked a small elven village in the north east Lascalan Forest. The raid, for what it was worth was initially successful, but they’ve been on the run and picked off one by one for over a week now by an elven hunting party. Bib is exhausted and most of his team is dead or missing. There are just two other orcs with him now and despite his junior rank he’s ended up in charge of the other two. It’s his job to get them north and keep them alive. He’s afraid. He can’t surrender to the elves because they’ll kill him. He can’t surrender to the authorities because they’ll hang him from a tree and if he meets a dwarf, he’ll get his head chopped off. His two followers should take the standard orc statistics as given on page 193 of the core rule book. Hook: Bib intends to kill some lone traveler and get some clothes and maybe some food. He knows that he’s got to go north but isn’t too bright and can’t calculate where north is. Torturing some directions out of a local farmer sounds like a good idea. Should he enact his plan, it will give credence to Coeden’s story about how he and his party have arrived in Tindale hunting orcs across the leagues that separate Lascalan Forest and Charmenel pass. With the prospect being between orc raiders and a few aloof if polite elves, this could sway a few local inhabitants over to a more positive view of the new elven arrivals.
  11. Blodyn Flor Elf STR: 9 CON: 12 SIZ: 8 INT: 13 POW: 14 DEX: 18 APP: 14 Descriptive features: Small and dainty even for an elf. She could be pretty but her manner and dress simply aren’t. She wears a brigandine jacket and trousers 1d6AP Occupation: Warrior Skills: 1H sword, (scimitar) 80%, Med round shield 60% Physik 77% listen 62% Search 47% Sense 42% Background: Blodyn is feisty and never takes a backward step. She considers most humans to be a bit dim witted. She doesn’t speak the local tongue in Tindale and has no interest in communicating with any of the locals. Hook: she will inevitably accompany Coeden on a visit to the town at some point and a female elf walking around should cause quite a stir particularly as she doesn’t speak the lingo and will at times talk incessantly to the other elves about this and that.
  12. Gwynt Bryn STR: 13 CON: 11 SIZ: 10 INT: 17 POW: 15 DEX: 18 APP: 13 Descriptive features: Tall for an elf, Gwynt has his cousin Coeden’s sun light yellow blonde hair flowing in a main down his back. His pale green eyes speak of the Lascalan elves and show him to be a long way from home. He wears light hard leathers including a hood. Occupation: Hunter Skills Bow 79% Move Silently 68% Track 58% Listen 61% 1H Sword 72% Nature 60% Search 66% Background: He is Coeden’s cousin on his mother’s side. Gwynt adores his older cousin who has been like a brother to him. When their village was raided in an orc attack, Coeden rallied a group of hunters and warriors to hunt the orcs down. It was only natural that Gwynt would want to go. Tindale is far from home and the locals are unfriendly. Gwynt wants to go back to his forest and meadows. Hook: If unpleasantries happen in Tindale, Gwynt will be the first into the fray.
  13. Although none of my offering will populate Tindale, they will I believe create an interesting side trek, when for a few days the local populace get caught up in an orc/elf conflict that gets forced upon them. Coeden Gwin STR: 12 CON: 13 SIZ: 9 INT: 19 POW: 17 DEX: 15 APP: 11 Descriptive features: Coeden has sun yellow blonde hair and bright green cat like eyes, that mark him as an elf at a casual glance, even at a distance. He moves with poise and grace not common in a warrior/hunter. His traveling cape is a natural green that somehow adds a +10 bonus to hiding when in a forest. Occupation Hunter Skills Bow 78% Climb 86% Track 57% Trap 73% broad sword 61% Nature 60% Background: After traveling a great distance hunting down a company of orcs, Coeden and his band found themselves in the woods near Tindale. They liked it and decided to stay, at least for a short while. He’s visited Tindale several times to trade fur and skins and has found himself because of his race less than welcome. Hook: One of the next times he’s in the town a crime is committed and he gets accused of it. He’s called a dirty fey and a Beleghir sympathizer. Unless released unharmed this threatens to bring down the wrath of a dozen hunting elves onto the town and things could get bloody. If not proven innocent and accepted more fully into the town or should Drum soldiers harass him and his men. He and his followers will move on, heading back east. They are not bandits and are a disciplined group but they won’t be pushed around. They may be somewhat condescending to humans. Coeden and his troop are a little hazy and rather disinterested about the feuding between house Drum and house Beleghir. They want to catch the last few orcs, rest up and then go home. To them Tindale is just a human settlement where they might trade a bit and maybe get some news.
  14. I absolutely agree with what has been said above. Hopefully now there's a response from Chaosium pasted here and on facebook, (I couldn't find another question clearly saying "Magic World" on facebook, but accept that there might have been one), everyone will wait and not send in other repetitious questions, (otherwise I'll be part of an avalanche). It really was a idea of mine to get a statement clearly saying the words "Magic World" publicly even if we're just being told the same as before, because although I had searched I couldn't find one and if I couldn't find one, I assumed at least some other people couldn't either, Which is the reason I used facebook and not an email. Not being a priority isn't good but considering how things are and the fact the MW so far has been a small seller I wouldn't expect anything else. I do hope that they can get out of this mess and of course fulfilling kickstarter obligations is the first step.
  15. I wasn't aware that Chaosium had used the words Magic World in any official statement about their future products since the changes. If they had I apologise for the repetition. However, I feel told off. My facebook question took me about one minute and 30 seconds to type and I'm sure that the reply took them as little time a well. This was hardly a difficult task. As for don't ask, don't rock the boat and walk around on egg shells, I'm sure if there was no official repetition of information, that some people will be pleased that some sort of official MW statement has been made, even if it only tells us what we already know and Choasium hopefully won't be badgered about this issue in the future and can get on with the work at hand.
  16. Well Chaosium responded to the question I posted on facebook. Which is below; "Guys! No news is bad news. I know I speak for hundreds of other like minded gamers when I ask this. Are you going to specifically support "Magic World" in anyway in the future?" And they answered; "No decisions have been made about what will happen with this particular product line in the future, but Magic World is simply not a priority for Chaosium right now." It doesn't really tell us much but it does give us clarity about where MW stands. I tried to paste the link but my computer doesn't seem to want to do it today.
  17. I'm not sure I want MW customized for any particular setting. My pleasure in MW is the game system itself, I'm an old Stormbringer fan. My interest in the Southern Reaches is simply as a background setting to play the game. I still dream of a Chroniclers Companion, and Bestiary, with maybe a separate booklet for SR to complete the set. It might not be what Chaosium want to sell me, but it is what I want to buy. I don't want to pay for all the rules I've just paid for again, in order to getting some more setting material. Don't get me wrong I really like the southern Reaches and feel it enhances the game, but that's not the main reason I play. Still ,what Trifletraxor said has merit and fits in to new ideas in Chaosium's/MD's press releases. Of course any new release would be a step forward.
  18. Well, We all want answers. Let's all write/Email/face book Chaosium inc aka Moon Design and try to get one. Will they allow MW to continue with support? If we all ask and they get a barrage of letters and emails etc... No doubt we'll get an answer, even if it's not the one we want, (on the other hand they might say yes).
  19. An independent MW fan site sounds good.If I could tear myself away from long office hours maybe I could write something.
  20. Added to that MW is closer to BRP and based on chaosium's Elric RPG with the moorcockian references taken out..
  21. I’ve just read the text. It’s very good. It’s clear and concise. You mentioned that it was an Anglo-Saxon dark ages setting. Saxon history is very rich and detailed, perhaps less mystical than Viking legend but no doubt as blood thirsty. It amazes me that so many books and films have Vikings as protagonists yet Saxon characters seem, (at least to me) relatively few, and often the villain. RPG also seems to follow this Nordic indulgence, with many major games having a Viking supplement , yet apart from Pendragon, where even there, they are relegated to, (again) the invaders from the lowlands or , Maelstrom Doomsday where the setting is even so, actually post Saxon, there are few if any good other titles. Now this is another land and not the Earth but will we get notes on equipment, social structure, combat tactics, thanes, Saxon runes etc… I think what you’ve done is great. If you’re going to expand the setting, these are just a few things that would interest me. I’m not talking about an encyclopedia here, just a couple of pages of simple notes to offer us some clarity. Oh and thank you.
  22. Thank you. I've just filled out the Heroic sheet and everything seems to be fine. It's just what I was looking for. I'd fiddled around with an excel sheet but I wasn't happy with it. This does the job nicely.
  23. I Like RQ but Love MW. Loved COC up to 6th ed. I have liked but never loved Glorantha and I wouldn't be getting too involved if MW magicked into a Glorantha world based game. Am I wrong to feel a bit panicky? Potentially getting rid of games creates customer resistance, who move on. I suspect that Sandy, Greg and Moon Publishing have considered this and they will create a product line to appeal to the people handing over the USDs. (Including me). I understand that MW won't be a priority. It wasn't before either. Maybe it'll just be left to slowly grow and blossom in the same way it was before Moon publishing got involved. They might even have some good ideas for it, (hope so).
  24. It's probably a bit late now, but I've been meaning to ask a content question about the chronicler's companion for ages and just never got round to it. I always thought that one of the best RQ3 GM supplements was the cities book. I still use mine now., The pages are yellow and it's so well thumbed that the cover has come off. Accepting that random tables aren't necessarily to be encouraged and that individual creativity is best; blah, blah etc. Will we be getting any of that kind of material that helps a tired GM invent something on the fly? I just think that sort of stuff is really helpful when you suddenly realise that the party have gone the wrong way or wandered off the adventure plot, but it's still kind of interesting and you want to run with it.
  25. I have two groups that are basically weekly. We do pen and paper, although tablets are used for maps and PDF reference etc. I prefer face to face but with a gaming circle that includes Melbourne Australia, Staffordshire England and Valencia Spain necessity dictates Skype. I always GM which is also out of necessity. We play RQ, MW COC, BRP, Castles and Crusades, 1st Ed Chill, (yes and Crypt World), C&S 2nd Ed, Star Frontiers, Traveller and Covert Ops, and an odd unpublished OSR that we've been kicking around for years. Every player is a personal friend so a bit like Clarence Post 33 it's like I just play with family. Oh and I seem to have the same wife budget as seneschal post 27
