  1. Penta used to be the land goddes of Pent, I think, but I can't remember where I read that. The lands around the Wastelands/Prax are bursting with fertility as their fertility wasn't blasted by Chaos or burnt away by Oakfed. Wastelands/Prax is a very special case in Glorantha as it is an unnaturally infertile place.
  2. Perhaps you can explain that to my wife, she has the opposite view when it comes to me.
  3. Orlanthi aren't barbarians, the Lunar Empire isn't evil, what is the world coming to? The more complex we make the discussion, the more we put people off. Keep it very simple, get them hooked, then reveal the complexity layer by layer through gameplay.
  4. I used a PDF version to help with Merrie England, much better than leafing through a book. It didn't cost anything more. Luckily for me, Paolo sent a number of books to someone in Birmingham for distribution, as I live in Birmingham, we just met in Geek retreat and I picked up my copy. Simples.
  5. That is clearly the "Before" picture, the "After" picture might have her crushed under the rock lizard. In any case, casting Strength or Great Parry would ward off most of the effects of a jumping rock lizard.
  6. Fangs or Foes have very basic pregens, but they are more aimed at NPC enemies than PCs. Character generation in RQ is so quick and easy, especially for basic PCs with no prior experience, that pregens are almost never required.
  7. Probably. For a set of SciFi rules, do we really need different levels of rules for different types of computer? For a starship, would you put a true AI anywhere near it? It seems to me that a set of expert systems, perhaps controlled by another expert system, would be a far better fit for a starship than a true AI. Reminds me of the Dilbert cartoon where he creates a robot, who says something like "I'm better than you, stronger than you, more intelligent than you and I can live forever! Ha, ha,ha,ha! I'm bored ..." Honestly, I can see them doing all of the above. An AI in a stationary fixture could have a robotic drone that it can use to move around with, thus making it like a PC. It could also be planning strange things, using its huge intelligence, but cannot actually do anything due to its limitations. Asimov had a story where a Supercomputer, in effect, was built, then slowly moved into Hyperspace, as it was faster there, it processed so much information and became omniscient, then when it approached the heat-death of the universe it looked for a solution, the solution eventually being "Let there be Light".
  8. What is the difference between an emerging AI acting as a Doctor or a Pilot, as opposed to a human acting as a Doctor or Pilot? They both do the same job day in, day out.
  9. We found that HQ1 worked really well for long campaigns. We didn't mind increasing power levels as we like the Zero to hero trope. I haven't really played HQ2 that much so couldn't comment on how it works in long campaigns.
  10. I like the cult description, thanks.
  11. I got mine at the end of January, but it was hand-delivered, so perhaps that doesn't count!
  12. Gloranthan folk have pretty much wiped Ragnaglar, Thed and Mallia from existence, by purging their own myths of references to them as friends. Chaots might have myths of how Ragnaglar lived in the Garden but was thrown out by Genert/Tada/Storm Bull and how he returned to take his rightful place, but I canot see them being popular among Gloranthans.
  13. I like the idea of just giving AIs skills. If you have a MediDoc then you want it to be as good as a Doctor, or maybe a Surgeon, or perhaps a really good Surgeon, you don't want it to be able to land a spaceship. So, you have a collection of small AIs, each specialising in a certain area, effectively running as NPCs. Most people use computers to do stuff. Not many people program computers to do more stuff and even they work to various limitations when developing new things. What do people use computers for? Taking out the drudgery from work Speeding things up/Automating things Finding things out quickly Running Simulations Entertainment So, an AI in a SciFi game can do all these things. A Medi-Doc can diagnose and treat (2), has access to a vast store of medical knowledge (3), can work out the effects of treatment (4) and means that the actual doctor can be freed up to do other things while the Medi-Doc is working (1). An Engineering AI checks that all the systems are up and running (1), runs a lot of the systems itself (2), checks to see if it can fix any faults (3), checks to see what would happen if it changed part A for part B (4) and so on. Computers are not magical things that can do anything you want, they are tools that can do certain jobs.
  14. Yes, it is very nice indeed. However, it is missing all the above streets, as it is based on the old Chaosium maps that also miss the streets. It has no numbered buildings, which is a real pain. It is also something that I cannot amend or add to, so is not really suitable for my needs.
  15. So, when are these being published? I would like to see more published material and these seem very useful. I am not so keen on material that is only available to a select few who quote them to make a point, despite them not being available to everyone else.
  16. The OP comes from a Call of Cthulhu background, Imagine if someone asked "Where can I start with Cal of Cthulhu" and people listed the whole mythos and all the scenarios. They would be overwhelmed. I agree. Do you want to play animal-riding nomads on the edge of a ruined city? Prax. Do you want to play Storm-worshipping barbarians in thrall to an evil Lunar Empire? Sartar. Do you want to play Sun-worshipping horse riders, demon-steed-riding sorcerers, grim exiles from the evil Lunar Empire, ducks surviving zombies? Dragon Pass.
  17. So, the "so magical it's in Plunder" Morocanth Thumb is now replaced by a glove made from the skin of a herd man with the herdman's spirit in? Hmmm. How big are Morocanth hooves compared to a herd man's hand?
  18. Thanks for the ideas. I will probably put Unnamed Street 3 as Third Street, as it is about the right place and both have a "3" in the name. Unnamed Street 4 is the end of Safe Way, it's obvious when pointed out. I treat H30/H33 to H35/H34 as an extension of Thane Street. The unnumbered building is the Pavis Temple (P-31) (Pavis & Big Rubble p25), home to various priests and headquarters of various Pavic military groups. The other names sound good, so unless anyone knows what they are, officially, I might just use them.
  19. Well, I can get through registration, but my account does not have permission to view the page. Is it a private page for a particular group?
  20. Well, all those dinosaurs exist in Dragon Pass and the Dragonewts of the Elder Wilds carried their City on the backs of dinosaurs, so which area lies between Dragon Pass and the Elder Wilds, eh, eh, eh?
  21. Well, the image map of New Pavis is ready, I am just waiting on feedback from Moon Design before I put it live.
  22. The Priests of Pavis are called Daughters and are based on Pavis' actual daughters, so there is an element of Pavis as an ancestor/family deity. With the exception of Ginkizzie, I doubt if any of the current Daughters are descended from Pavis, though. Perhaps that could be a theme in a campaign, to try and locate the last living descendants of Pavis.
  23. Personally, I would allow the increase to be unlimited. So, I would have no problem with Hunter 13 (Archery + 25), from a rules mechanics point of view, it just means that the hunter is a specialised archer who shoots as if he has Archery 38, or 18M). However, from a story/character point of view, why is Archery not an ability on its own if it is so good?
