  1. If it's based on the RW glasswort, then it's actually a kind of succulent weed, as it were. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glasswort
  2. There might be a specific title, like "Talar of All Esvulari" or "Talar of Mt.Passant/Demthal" that denotes someone as the overall ruler of the Esvulari. If talar is purely a collective caste name (like Kshatriya in hinduism), then some other, specific title might be used instead, ie. King, Duke, etc.
  3. The headdress threw me off! I'm more used to seeing her wear those wide-brimmed sun hats. (That's my story and I'm sticking to it.)
  4. Elvis Presley, Danny Devito, Margot Robbie, Cate Blanchett, Eva Green(?)... Wow. This is definitely an interesting cover! Celebrity cameos aside, I love the composition, the drama that can be gleaned from this is great, and the city below really gives it that epic "game of chess" vibe.
  5. No, but RQ game mechanics might give people the impression there is, if my understanding is correct.
  6. Read up on West African history for some inspiration. The Mali Empire, Ghana Empire, Songhai, etc (Basically everything along the Niger river, and westwards). While there is quite a lot of differences, these are the main inspirations for the region. Revealed Mythologies was mentioned already (although it's probably pretty scarce). I'm not sure if Middle Sea Empire has anything on them, someone might know. The Guide does have a section on Fonrit, of course, but I'm guessing you've already looked through that.
  7. Huh, I didn't know the latter, I always assumed that their god-making/god-resurrecting quest was fairly intentional.
  8. RW religions don't necessarily maintain a meaningful distinction between theism and animism the way Glorantha does. Nor do I necessarily think all Gloranthan cultures do either, but the RQ game mechanics seem to enforce the idea at least gameplay-wise.
  9. Worship is an iffy term (even if RQ rules-ese attempt to codify and quantify what it is and what it does). Does sacrificing people to the Bat count as worship for example? I can definitely see an Illuminate offering propitiatory worship to keep a Chaos God away from themselves or their community.
  10. Well, Esrolia certainly has some fairly noteable ancestors still hanging around. Not only the ones from Necropolis and the Antones Estate, who I guess might be a bit de-individualized, but the ones at Kena Hill. Esrolians might overall be more open to communing with individual ancestors, so maybe an Earthwitch/Ernalda angle is easier than a Kolat/Orlanth angle or whatever.
  11. There is a reasonably detailed play-by-play in the Book of Heortling Mythology as well. It also has short summaries of the quest from the perspectives of the different lightbringers. EDIT: Something I've never liked when the Lightbringer Quest is applied in the lore is that it's too often just used as a "resurrection ritual", when in fact its function and theme is far, far beyond that. It's a story of repentance and reconciliation to reestablish the order of the cosmos, perhaps first and foremost. That never really gets much emphasis, and instead it's more "bring back the dead lol" whenever mentioned.
  12. Seems apt. (It would be the same in Norwegian too, probably.)
  13. Isn't he sort of a stand-in for mortals in the Lightbringer Quest? A dying one at that?
  14. Sits down on a chair with its back forwards. Let me tell you about ducks.
  15. Obligatory giant crab video: (Just imagine less gunpowder and zombie pirates and more green-skinned sea folk)
  16. I aways assumed they were horticulturists working with adzes/hoes, hence their ability to work on wetlands and hence their overall association with vegetable-farming over grain - although the latter might just be me inferring stuff from King of Dragon Pass.
  17. You see this come up a bit in discussions on Lunars vs. Orlanthi. Most "Lunars" in Dragon Pass, except troops brought in from the Heartland, are religiously Lunar, but are still culturally Orlanthi, as it were. They live in clan-based societies, they form tribal coalitions, they maintain their collective homesteads and property management, they might not initiate to Orlanth anymore, but as far as I know they still initiate to mark crossing over to adulthood, they still speak Theyalan languages, and so forth. There are probably some who've given up on some cultural practices here and there, but overall that's the image I'm getting. Apologies if I've gotten something wrong. EDIT: Isn't Daka Fal the Praxian name? Wouldn't Heortling Orlanthi refer to him as Darhudan? Or have I misunderstood this? I'm guessing some people might know both names, or that players use Daka Fal since that is the name used in the most widespread cult write-up/publication. Or maybe they ARE different entities, I don't know.
  18. There are several myths in Glorantha pertaining to when rain disappeared. However, are there any myths about when rain first came into being? It strikes me as a pretty world-altering event, introducing a natural phenomena that nowadays pretty much the entire world is reliant on, but at some point apparently did not exist. I know there are some quick mentions of Water invading the sky and air in the Sourcebook, and I know Jeff has mentioned that at some point Heler was king of the world, possibly before he was pacified by other gods, but that's about it. I'm mostly conflating Heler and rain here, although I'm open to the process/event being more complex.
  19. I think the problem is a) what kind of love are we talking about (it certainly doesn't have to be limited to romantic/sexual love), and b) the "fake affection for anyone other than the goddess", which can be read a couple of ways (I assume they don't mean that it's okay to fake affection for the goddess, but for others it must be genuine, that seems a bit odd), but I take it to mean that they can't even show affection for anyone else. That seems implausible to me.
  20. Eyh, cheers, man. You inspired me to create my own gallery and upload some memes.
