  1. Hi With the release of Reign of Terror on PDF, this thread is to catch any typos or errors spotted. Please note them here, quoting the page number, the error, and the suggested correction. We have a couple of weeks' window to catch errors before print. If corrections come in later than this, we will correct the PDF file and print files ready for reprints. Many thanks Mike
  2. Corrections tend to pop up as and when - if we can get in before print, we do so. If later, we correct the PDF and print files for reprinting, so there is no effective end date.
  3. 7th ed Gaslight is in plan - but it will be a while before it comes out. In the meantime, Cthulhu Through The Ages provides a primer and inc. Gaslight investigator creation.
  4. Warthur Understand your feedback - many thanks for sharing this. It does, of course, illustrate the dire need for a great modern-day campaign - something we will have to fix!
  5. Hi With the release of Down Darker Trails on PDF, this thread is to catch any typos or errors spotted. Please note them here, quoting the page number, the error, and the suggested correction. Many thanks Mike
  6. There have been podcasts recordings of groups playing through the campaign - it might help to listen to these to see how others did it. I believe Microphones of Madness did a run through you could look up.
  7. And Some Fell on Stony Ground - from Nameless Horrors - is a survival horror scenario.
  8. You'll also find quick reference rules sheets at the back of the rulebook.
  9. You can probably run things with the quick start rules (but you will need to hand wave / make up stuff sometimes, as the QSR are bare bones). My advice is, if you like what what you have seen so far, get the rulebook, which gives you everything you need to play.
  10. Yes, First Kidnapper. The map key is a little misleading in that regard ; )
  11. Earlier this year Chaosium invited members of the Cult of Chaos to submit pitches for short scenarios that could be played in a single 4-hour time slot at games conventions. We received over 100 pitches and from these 11 were picked to go through to the second round, where they would be written up into full scenarios. At the final deadline, all 11 were submitted, and for the last few days we have been reading over these entries. We’d like to thank everyone who pitched and those who went through the process of writing the final set of scenarios. Of the 11 finalist scenarios, we have picked 6 that we would like to further develop into fully laid out convention scenarios, that we hope to make available at key conventions in 2017 and 2018. These winning entries are: Weekend in the Woods by Matt Ryan The Kids are Alright by Jason and Ann D’Angelo Those Within by Freddie Folds Midnight Masquerade by Ed Possing Searching for the Rhinegold by Benjaim Constantineau and Jean-Sébastien Boisvert Dansereau As the Leaf Withers on the Vine by Charles Perryman Congratulations to those entrants! We’d also like to thank the runners up: Mark Platt, Morgan Hua, Jay Jong, Aaron Eskenazi, and Jason Michal. Whether winner or runner up, we expect to be seeing more from these people in the future! We’ll be emailing all of the finalists in the next few days to personally thank them for taking part, and to provide some feedback, which we hope will help in further developing the entrant’s scenario writing skills. While not everyone could win this time, we hope that the experience is a learning one and are keen to see everyone who took part continue to write and hone their skills, so they can join the ranks of the next generation of professional scenario writers. In addition, all of the 11 finalists who submitted a complete scenario will receive a $40 Chaosium web store voucher in thanks for their participation. So, look out for these winning Call of Cthulhu scenarios at future conventions like Origins, GenCon, and others!
  12. Just to further elaborate on Rick's helpful notes - Having an estimated word count is useful - we want the estimate page count, but please do include the estimate word count too (and yes, handout text should be included in the word count). Thanks
  13. Yes, I believe so - just register at https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1_33sK5myDvdRTacq_ordlN6GHWA3KZlrL4Pn7fqZ-S8/viewform?edit_requested=true and include the word "Chaosium" - then the organisers know you are part of the Cult of Chaos. There's plenty of people coming to the convention looking to play Call of Cthulhu - many for the first time.
  14. My advice is to decide who is the villain before running the scenario. So decide now. You risk getting yourself in knots if you do not decide who the villain is now, before any further play - as this will help to protray the people and help you to guide the players towards a climax. Make a call on who you prefer to be the villain and layer that into the game. The players seem to be doing just fine - but perhaps their questions have aroused the suspicion of the villain - perhaps the villain now looks to distract them or frame someone else, perhaps the villain hides in plain sight or now tries to lie low - you can't decide these things until you know who the villain is - so choose and go for it. If in doubt, having Abner Wick as the villain is usually a safe bet - his shop is a easy place to bring things to a climax. The choice is yours!
  15. Unsure about this, as I have been told these have been updated for Bits & Mortar - I will pass word along to double check this has been done. Thanks
  16. Translating it for your own use is fine.
  17. Thanks - these corrections have been made in the PDF file. I'll add them to the errata file too. The books are at print.
  18. Yes but why can't you also play it on Tabletop Day too? It's a tabletop RPG after all. My local games stores were more than happy to have RPGs running alongside boardgames.
  19. Hi It's International Tabletop Day soon - on 29th April at a games store near you! Last year I contacted my local games cafe and offered to run Call of Cthulhu - the cafe recruited 6 players and we had a blast. I'd like to encourage everyone in the Cult of Chaos to support Tabletop Day either in store, in cafe, online, or wherever you can promote roleplaying and Call of Cthulhu. Cthulhu's calling.... do you heed the call? http://geekandsundry.com/table-top-day/
  20. Hi Sorry Grey - you are correct, the example is incorrect (its needs a little adjustment to bring it inline): the example should read: For example: Barfly Dan has consumed about half a bottle of whiskey. The Keeper equates this to 10 shots and consults the table, noting that Dan will be negatively impaired for 4 hours and is temporarily immune to Sanity losses below 5 points. Returning to his seafront lodgings, Dan sees a deep one and fails a Sanity roll. The Keeper rolls 6 Sanity loss. As Dan is currently immune, the Keeper notes down the loss. Next morning, Dan awakes with an awful hangover. The Keeper asks Dan’s player to make an INT roll—a failure: Dan hazily remembers seeing a monstrous thing but while he can’t recall all of the details, he feels a shiver of absolute dread nevertheless and suffers the immediate loss of 3 Sanity points.
  21. Voice of Ra, Steal Life, and Mental Suggestion (was Mesmerize) are all in the Grand Grimoire.
  22. You might want to label SPOILERS before you post.
  23. It's a big campaign, so probably take a little while before play reports start to come through.
