It does say clearly on page 206 (second printing) The only exception would be if a spell says specifically that it is not subject to the effects of a critical hit (but there are currently none). As usual that's up to the GM, however even with magic armor, it's still doing maximum impaling, slashing, or crushing damage, which in most cases will result in death if head or abdomen or a serious injury for everything else (unless a weedy weapon).

Yes. See Training in the Q&A: To clarify: An adventurer may train a single skill with an instructor per season OR research a single skill This still allows three weeks adventuring. This still allows your your normal occupation and community roles. The adventurer still receives Experience Between Adventures (page 416). The adventurer is now “Fully Booked” and can do no more, or Sacred Time roles will be penalised in Additional Penalties to the Occupation Income Roll (page 422).

Having checked the book, PDF, Tribal Edit Thread and print layout files. This was an error not caught by the tribal edit, but after the corrected file was sent to print.
