  1. As far as my bad Spanish allows me to understand, what you wrote on Oriflam products is correct (and very good). I do not own the other covered products so can not answer on them. Yes. Quite a number (especially in the end) were translations taken from "Tales of the Reaching Moon".
  2. Yes, in that case, the 'agreement' would be difficult to obtain. And in case of no agreement, everything goes. My personal take is that the initiation is something so important that nobody would dare to interfere with the gods will.
  3. I see those hostages more the roman way. Hostages are 'voluntarily' sent to ensure peace treaties are not broken, more than forcibly taken during a raid. To answer the second part of your question, I would say the ransom is a fraction (perhaps half) of the one of the father/mother. For the third part, hostages are considered guest under the Orlanthi hospitality rule, so their initiation has to be considered, probably by an agreement between the partie.
  4. My eldest son (15 years old) discovered tabletop RPG a few years ago (both parents are/were players), but he tried online before me (last week, because of the impossibility of face to face meetings).
  5. Don't tell that to swiss guys.
  6. As I'm french, I have no problems.
  7. This is my understanding, after rereading Jeff's comments in another thread, except that Orlanth's cult does not allow for sorcery usage for his members.
  8. As far as I have understood, you can strike with magic or iron weapons only on the spirits you can see. That means the ones that are (spirit) fighting you, the ones that have manifested and the ones you see through special means (spells, powers,...). The rest, you can't strike.
  9. I have currently no game, but if I had, it would: I can only leave home for work and purchase food.
  10. What do you mean by W.E.I.R.D. . I have seen different meanings for this acronym.
  11. Even without munchkins. If the gods tells us it is sacred for them, why not believing them.
  12. It's true that our GMs were good (and I was not part of them), but most of the tactics originated with the players, not the GMs. Yes. How true. This is part of the reasons why I'm saying our GMs were good. The tactics were mostly the ones of the players, but their gameplay allowed us to play that way, by giving stories, terrains, situations, ... that enable creative acting. We used vertical whiteboard. The GM drawed everything he wanted and adapted the scale when needed.
  13. No, we used said tactics from the beginning. In fact, that was one of the point that draw us to RQ (especially RQIII): the rules allowed and even promote such tactics. This was not linked to high scores, but perhaps our groups were special.
  14. Completely right. RAW, in RQIII, a shield or parrying weapon takes 1 pt of damage when the attack exceeds its AP, except if the attack was to deliberately strike the said parrying weapon (this is one of the tactics I was speaking about just above) where damage taken is equal to the extra damage. In RQG, the damage can be much higher with a simple parry, on a Special attack for example, but the probability of Specials is lowered compared to RQIII.
  15. There's quite a good number of frenchies here (I'm part of them). They're usually not too difficult to find. By the way, where (roughly) are you?
  16. That means: 1 - that I have been lucky, not having to endure this. 2 - that this rule (that I dislike) has merits for groups like yours.
  17. In around 20 years of RQ play, I (almost) never had this kind of problem. Even when we had high skills, what resolved the fights was most often the tactics (close in, changing opponents, striking the weapon, striking to disarm, ...), the use of the terrain and the magic points attrition. Of course, preparing for combat is also a big factor.
  18. In french, 'tithe' is 'dîme', that is a contraction of 'dixième' (tenth). I know quite a number of current christians (catholics) that pay 1 tenth of their income to their church. In older days, this was the rule (and in France, before state and church were completely separated, the law).
  19. Frankly, I don't know, and I also see some potential troubles.
  20. Perfectly right. The question is now: If you are a Rune Priest and have an allied spirit, do you lose it if you request to be demoted to God-Talker status?
  21. You can, at least under European law, sell a pdf you own legally. You would have to delete ALL copies you have.
  22. Slavery is clearly not chaotic, as lot of non chaotic cults and areas have slaves. In fact, Hendriki are the only Orlanthi that forbid slavery, iirc.
