Byron Alexander
It would also mean that I'd joined the distinguished ranks of people who had written a book on magic bound in human skin. GianniVacca
But, one big thing to cover is how different cultures might define and respond to necromancy differently. I have just read an incredibly interesting book that partly tackled this issue: Society and the Supernatural in Song China (http://tinyurl.com/ybowc7s). There has been a surge in necromantic affairs under the Sòng, when an increasingly wealthy populace has been able to afford the services of necromancers, exorcists, and whatnot. This whole 'business', which started in the hands of a few specialised practitioners, soon started to attract more respectable figures like Daoist and Buddhist priest, then wandering monks who made a big business out of the desire of people to speak to their deceased loved ones. Some still famous Daoist patriarchs started their career in necromancy! But the government tried to crack down on these practises. Not for religious reasons (China is not a Judaeo-Christian society) but because of the trouble brought by competing necromancers to gain the favours of the populace! Hmmm... Adventure ideas start to come: a judge is sent to a city where a 'necromancers war' is raging on. He must calm down the hysterical populace, stop the leaders of the troubles -- but his constables are afraid of going about arresting undead! dragonewt
Those things are hilarious. Though not quite as hilarious as vampire pumpkins. Depending on the tone of the movie, they are hilarious in a horrific way... Or a cool way (This is similar to a game I have been running): But then, there is this: Edited March 17, 2010 by dragonewt
Ryhope Wood
Before you go too far (and certainly before you finish) take a look at Mongoose's take: http://www.mongoosepublishing.com/home/detail.php?qsID=1790 I'm not trying to be a spoiler, but if their book is any good, you'll need some careful positioning and selection of content. Steve From the limited blurb on their website, the MRQ book appears to be about writing up new undead creatures rather than a magic system. It's the last of the MRQ2 books that I pre-ordered (in part to support my FLGS). In the future I'll wait for reviews and errata before ordering. Steve Quote Bathalians, the newest UberVillians! Byron Alexander
Ideas for BRP : Necromancy: Three sections; real world, gothic and fantasy. Real world will be based heavily on genuine traditions, going through history and highlighting mystical dealings with the dead. Most new system stuff will be skills not spells making it very, very 'low magic'. Gothic will highlight the gothic undead : Vampires, ghosts and the animated. How to use them as a Keeper, options that differ from the core rules (dhampirs will feature here, obviously). Fantasy will be where the magic's at (as well as some new monsters) and, hopefully, will be compatible with BRP : Classic Fantasy. Opinions? threedeesix
and, hopefully, will be compatible with BRP : Classic Fantasy. Opinions? As always, I am more than willing to work with you on this Byron. Plus, I plan on making my Classic Fantasy Necromancer NPC Class compatable with your book as well. That way we remain one big happy family. Simlasa
I'm still looking forward to this. One of the players in our group runs a 'necromancer'... though he's yet to really attempt anything vaguely resembling necromancy. I think mostly he wanted to be a wizard with a scary costume and a staff with a skull on the top.

tooley1chris
LOL. Working on a little side project to expand on Necromancy from Advanced Sorcery. Converting spells from a sister system, making up some new ones loosely based on Diablo IIIs Witch Doctor, and a few new ones. Found this thread on accident. TRose
The only caution I would offer is that there is a pretty good Necromancy system as an extension of the Sorcery system available in the now OOP Bronze Grimoire supplement for Elric!/Stormbringer, so it's conceivable Chaosium might re-issue that material reworked to be non-setting specific (as they did with the RQIII Magic Book): indeed, if there is an old BRP game supplement that's begging to be "BRP-ified" and released to support BRP it's The Bronze Grimoire (closely followed by Liber Ka for Nephilim). Contact Dustin - there's certainly an opening for such focused supplement at present. Nick I have a copy of the Bronze Grimoir and love it.. I BRPized the Rune system in it for my game and would love to see some one do the rest of the bok.

Err, Advanced Sorcery for Magic World contains most of the material from The Bronze Grimoire - except for some stuff that was already included in the core Magic World spell list. Cheers, Nick
BMonroe
Not to mention that Liber Ka was redone and expanded as Enlightened Magic! Quote Please don't contact me with Chaosium questions. I'm no longer associated with the company, and have no idea what the new management is doing.
