  1. I posted this in another thread before finding this one. It really belongs here. I just don't think it is necessary. Your using a table to generate a percentage chance of success, either opposed or otherwise. All of the alternatives in existence do this already, without the necessity of a table. Look at arm wrestling, I use my STR on the table to determine a percentage chance of success, you use your STR on the table to generate a percentage chance of success, we both make the percentage rolls. All of the alternatives simply skip the middleman and just give you the percentages. To me, the Resistance Table is the THACO of BRP, it works, but there are better ways. Can anyone here truly come up with something that the Resistance Table can do, that the alternatives cannot? I'm truly just curious, because I can't, but may be overlooking something. Rod
  2. Edit: Moved to a more appropriate thread...
  3. Their using the "Everything I learned about marketing I learned from Star Wars" method with regards to trimming down the book. To quote Ben Kenobi from Episode 4: "If you cut me down, I will become more powerful than you can possibly imagine". Rod
  4. I'm honestly not sure. Maybe if there is a character sheet we could know from the layout.
  5. Damn, I wish they had a stretch goal for an English translation. I bet they would easily reach it just with the members this forum alone. Rod
  6. For what its worth, I never gave up on Chaosium, which has been one of my favorite companies since 1980. I did however give up on those that were managing it at the time I was writing CF2 and CF3 however.
  7. I know as a writer, that if BRP was available at a mere 32 pages when I wrote BRP Classic Fantasy I would have been overjoyed. I would have been able to include the complete rules in the book and build on it from there. Personally, I like the news that is being provided. Rod
  8. With the casting of Raise Dead, I bring this thread back to life. One thing you may want to incorporate is the RQ6 method of skill increases. In it, when a player rolls to see how much a skill improves, instead of 1d6, he rolls 1d4+1 on a success. This gives a nice increase if 2-5%. Now, the part I like, is that if the improvement roll fails, the skills still increases by 1%. This means that at "low level", most skills will have a chance to improve by 2-5%, but when skills get to higher levels, they will improve slower, at 1%, but that's still improvement. That means that a player that has a high skill and an unlucky streak for 10 sessions in a row, will still have improved their skill by 10%. This rate of advancement may be better for a campaign that is trying to keep up with D&D. Rod
  9. Hi Thaenor, The book is finished, turned in, and 90% edited. It is currently awaiting internal art. Other than that I can't get really specific other than to say that in light of all the Moon Design/Chaosium/Design Mechanism developments, Classic Fantasy is still a priority for the Design Mechanism. I should be able to be a lot more specific in the coming weeks, but for the time being, you can rest assured that Classic Fantasy is in the best possible hands. Rod
  10. I would expect Heidi Klum to swing by every week to run it for me, and while I know I'm busy, I would make the time.
  11. Because Batman's the hero Gotham deserves, but not the one it needs. It needs Chuck Norris.
  12. I would say keep it here. Mainly because so many potential fans are coming here anyway, visiting the other sub-forums, it will give you maximum exposure.
  13. Which I'm backing by the way. Best solo game books EVER!!!
  14. While we're on the subject, I would like to point out that if you have any interest in Legend at all, skip it and download the "free" PDF of RuneQuest Essentials. It is written by the same two awesome writers and is an improvement over Legend in several areas IMHO. It can be downloaded from... http://www.thedesignmechanism.com/downloads.php It is "crunchier" than either OpenQuest or Magic World, but no more so than Legend. Rod
  15. On a side note. While not a VS. but instead a mash-up, when I was heavily into GURPS, I would take two or three of my more than 150 different worldbooks at random and throw together a short campaign as a diversion between breaks in our normal games. I ran some really off the wall stuff. My favorite was a campaign using GURPS Ice Age and GURPS Spec Ops for a time travel campaign, and GURPS Old West and the aliens and flying saucer from GURPS Atomic Horror. The latter ended up being very close to the subject matter of Cowboys vs. Aliens, but predated it by more than 20 years.
  16. Actually. Freddie vs. Jason (2003) and AVP: Alien vs. Predator (2004) predates them all. But, If I had to it choose my dream combo, it would be the subject of 90% of all geek conversation; Star Trek vs. Star Wars.* *Important note: Please don't accept this as a challenge. I already know who would win, and I'm not sharing. ;-)
  17. Actually, I rather liked the song when I first heard it. But as I kept watching the show, and it was sung again and again, episode after episode, it got to be too much. That said I actually really like the Macross Saga, surpassed only by Space Battleship Yamato as far as my favorite anime. But I have only seen the English dubbed version, so I'm glad to hear that the original Minmei had a wider range. Rod
  18. While I can't tell you specifically how to model Minmei's song in game terms. I can say that after it gets sung for 10 sessions in a row, there should be a roll to resist shooting oneself in the head.
  19. I also liked the soloquests and would enjoy seeing them reprinted. But on top of that, I would also love to see some new ones. Soloquests were a great way to introduce a new player to the game in a single sitting, without necessarily getting the whole group together beforehand. I would let the player keep any experience gain and let it carry over to the weekly game. Rod
  20. The Monograph authors never gave up the rights to their work when Chaosium printed them. I owned the rights to Classic Fantasy right up to the point I signed on with TDM. The only thing Chaosium owned was their game system. Which isn't all that hard to pull out and insert a new one. Just ask me, I've done it three times. ;-) Rod
  21. I had a BRP write-up of John Carter in the Downloads section but it seems to be gone. I'm pretty sure I still have it here on an external drive and I'll try to get it back up this weekend. I did it during the playtest of BRP and think it came out pretty good. Maybe it will be of some use. Rod
