Is the Corona-virus affecting your games?

I've been seeing a ton of negative effects of this virus other than just symptoms, including Chaosium postponing their convention in the land down under, so it got me thinking...

Has this crisis been harming your gaming or making it difficult to play? Have you had to switch to playing over Discord or Skype or Roll20 to overcome it?

Quite the reverse. New Group/Campaign (1610 but using RQG) in addtion to the 2 RQG 1626 and 1 Witcher TTRPG I already play in. Only the Witcher game runs face-face so I guess that might get impacted later. We're good so far.

On the negative side my monthly Hit-People-With-Chunks-of-metal practise got cancelled.

Indirectly. I had a game weekend scheduled for 28th of March, but one of the participants from farther away had his seminars cancelled due to Corona countermeasures, which would have paid for his trip. Convention cancellations are going to pile up, too.

I cancelled tonight's session, as I am working from home due to a cough, as a precaution. So, yes, it has affected our gaming schedule.

Fortunately, we play every Monday, so can pick up again next week.

The cough has almost cleared up, so probably wasn't Covid-19.

I have currently no game, but if I had, it would: I can only leave home for work and purchase food.

Maybe consider online? There's a fair few pick up games of RQG online

Nope. Next scheduled 2 day session is going to go down as planned. 6 players + GM meeting for another fine installment of our current WH40k Dark Heresy campaign. Just keep in mind that while the Emperor protects, Grandfather Nurgle cherishes each and every one of his children!

...well, maybe the one germophobe person among us may find more pressing reasons to stay at home, but that’s their loss.

Yes, Ive knocked things on the head for now. I game/socialise four evenings a week with different groups, so the risk of me picking it up and becoming a carrier is high. I'm not worried for myself, but my contact with vulnerable people makes me choose to err on the side of prudence. Still having a session this week though, which we run fortnightly; whether it continues will depend on what happens in the next two weeks.

Sucks that so many are effected in different ways. I pray to God this epidemic comes to a close as soon as possible, meanwhile, make sure you do everything you can to stay safe. Until they create a profitable solution to their likely engineered problem(:)

Dude, no.  I think that was supposed to be a smiley at the end there, but now's not the time for irresponsible conspiracy theories.

!i!

[Edit:  In fact, there's never an appropriate time for irresponsible conspiracy theories.  I reckon that era of armchair entertainment needs to have the curtain drawn.  It's so...'90s.]

What conspiracy theories? *

uhhhh... you *DO* know there are wingnuts promoting the stupid idea that this is a genetically-engineered virus???

FWIW -- in case anyone doesn't know / hasn't heard -- that sort of gengineering can be spotted (and has pretty definitively been ruled out) by independent researchers all over the world.

Once again, I meant no offense and was joking. Sorry if I was being insensitive.

Also, what happened to "China made it as a weapon and accidentally released it"? I thought that was the official story, which would mean it was engineered, unless I'm wrong.

That was, to put it bluntly, "fake news."  Someone speculated, "hey maybe it could have been..." and the fearmongers picked it up and ran with it as if it were proven fact.

I'll even go on to caution you that -- if your news feeds have fed you that "misinformation" and not corrected to the real info -- you may be relying on news that intentionally pursues fearmongering over facts; it's the profitable model of producing "news" these days.

It died the miserable little fear-mongering death it deserved, just like all of the No, THEY Did It counter-conspiracies will.

There are some very good and very engaging books out there on virology and epidemiology and the very natural and entirely accidental things that happen when humans and livestock live together.  Check one or two out, relax, think of others, and be sensible.  The CDC link is a nice touch.  Google is also pitching in with the very simple Do The Five tips on their opening page: https://www.google.com/search?q=coronavirus+tips&fbx=dothefive

Be cool and be good, people.

Yup. I've just cancelled my scheduled monthly RuneQuest sessions, my excellent local club (the Role Play Haven) has cancelled its weekly game nights, my best mate's postponed a Call of Cthulhu campaign, a boardgame last weekend fell through... so my gaming's been somewhat affected.

On the other hand, it frees up more time for me to work on books. So that's a plus. (Arguably)
