I also ordered a copy.  Wasn't sure if I should wait after seeing the corrections thread but I like RQ quite a bit so I purchased it.  I do wish we'd get a free coupon code for DtRPG just to make it easier for knowing about updates.

We'll be updating the .pdfs and I will be posting a corrections page. Nothing game-breaking.

Welcome to the forum!  Yeah, I was struck by how quickly the corrections thread filled up, but I suspect that's less to do with the error density, than the fact that lots of eager bunnies bought it, downloaded the PDF, and instantly inhaled the whole thing...

Do the pages in the pdf take unusually long to load for anyone else? I've noticed this in most of the other RQG products and some CoC stuff, but it seems unusually pronounced in the starter set.

In my experience this is dependant on the reader you use. For me Acrobat DC is by far the slowest, and PDF Expert is by far the fastest.

Yes.  The RQG Core Rules are always very slow to load; Bestiary is also slow to load.  I'm not sure if this is a function of artwork, indexing, bookmarks, or something else.

Can't speak to the Starter Set PDFs, but I've played around with post-processing the Guide PDFs to try to get a quicker-loading reference version.  Pretty easy to halve the file size by switching to a "screen" quality, and much smaller if you "downsample" the image quality to "can I please have some more pixels?" or duplo-brick scale.  About 3Mb in the extreme case.  Exactly what the sweetspot for loading and scrolling latency is hard to quantify.  Another variable is linearisation, AKA Fast Web View, which might help with some viewers, but is apparently completely ignored by others, so YMMV on that too.  Dunno about indexing and bookmarks as I haven't stumbled across the right editing tool to remove those as yet.

Good news - the RuneQuest Starter Set is back in stock in our UK warehouse!

Of course, also available from our US, EU, AUS, and CAN warehouses too. USD$29.99 for the Starter Set critics have already said is the "standard by which other starter sets are going to be measured." Plus, buy direct from Chaosium and the PDFs are included in the price.

P.S. UK Call of Cthulhu fans, we've also restocked:
  • Call of Cthulhu Starter Set
  • 7th Ed Slipcase Set
  • Dead Light
  • The Grand Grimoire

Order at Chaosium.com.

We don't do anything except supply Bits and Mortar with the PDFs.

Quick question @Scotty - do you also supply B&M with updated PDFs in the same way as you supply those to customers who order via the Chaosium website? I've just downloaded my Starter Set PDFs via B&M and am wondering if they will be updated if/when any corrections/updates are made.

An Unofficial Buyer's Guide to RuneQuest and Glorantha lists everything currently available for the game and setting, across 60 pages. "Lavishly illustrated throughout, festooned with hyperlinks" - Nick Brooke. The Voralans presents Glorantha's magical mushroom humanoids, the black elves. "A wonderful blend of researched detail and Glorantha crazy" - Austin Conrad. The Children of Hykim documents Glorantha's shape-changing totemic animal people, the Hsunchen. "Stunning depictions of shamanistic totem-animal people, really evocative" - Philip H.

If your FLGS is a participant in Bits & Mortar, you get a download code from the shop. Otherwise direct them to https://www.bits-and-mortar.com and they can sign up there. We don't do anything except supply Bits and Mortar with the PDFs.

I would like to request Chaosium to please include a version number or date in the filenames that they supply to B&M. Otherwise, it's impossible to tell when looking at B&M whether there's been an update. Some other publishers already do this for B&M.

Maybe this is already being done, but I'm just going off the filenames for the PDFs for the RQ Starter Set that I bought from my FLGS.

Thanks.

Is the Starter Set still available through distributors? I have had two stores tell me that they can't order it in.

Never mind, the third store is able to order it in. Not sure what was up with the other two.

FLGS's seldom have authoritative & accurate info, I've found.

Most of us who geek hard are far more expert -- in our respective fields of geekery -- than almost all retailers.
