MOB
We are pleased to announce new Glorantha minies and skirmish wargame rules are coming! http://www.chaosium.com/blog/new-partnership-for-gloranthan-miniatures-and-skirmish-wargames-rules
Sean_RDP
That should be pretty interesting. Will the rules seek focus on being their own separate set of rules or will they call back in some way to the RQ game? How connected will they be? Will we need to buy them in boxes or can we order separate beasts? Will there be an official or semi official painting guide? Just some thoughts, the idea sounds pretty good. pachristian
This is good news! I've been using Games Workshop Chaos Gor as broo, and Rapier Miniatures still makes Scorpion men, but I'd like to see a decent line of Gloranthan miniatures. Just one request: Not so many "Jar-Eel" and "Gunda" miniatures - more minis that we can use in a normal game!

Yes i second this, lots of normal figures. I'd love a range of plastic ones too. I'd also love a Troll Ball game, they have been a feature of my tabletop games over the years and I'd love to have a board game with figures. Saw the pics a few months ago and got very excited.

Thank you for the support Plastic miniatures would be nice. I particularly like the Games Workshop figures where you can mix and match pieces - you have to buy groups of miniatures, but you can customize them pretty well. I understand that there is a high start-up cost for the molds, but after you reach a certain volume they are much cheaper to produce than metal miniatures. I don't know enough about the business to know the best model. Here's one other thing: Let there be praxian beasts early on! I can get all kinds of miniatures - but not sable riders or high llama riders!
Runeblogger
I'm really excited about this. And I second the opinions of pachristian as well. He's spot on about the praxian beasts! When can we know more about the rules? And what if you could combine these miniatures with the ones in the boardgame The Gods War? The smaller ones, at least. Dishdashgames
Hi all, Just thought I would chat. OK the idea is to concentrate on everyday Orlanthi's for the basic box set, and as a long time player and one of the writer/designers of TOTRM I think I should soon be able to come back up to speed with the new RQ. I will be working closely with the Chaosium team but currently the idea is for the game to be based on one of my two current systems. Sangin is probably closest to RQ and we have used that in the past to play RQ games even though its a modern rule set, Skirmish OUTBREAK probably has the ability to have bigger units. However, nothings is set in stone yet, it's all up for grabs. I will make sure you to keep you guys in the loop as we can show progress. I will try and get a render up today if I can get to it. Happy to talk. cheers Colin
pachristian
So here's something to shoot for: You know all those expensive boardgames with miniature pieces? Let's have a high-end remake of White Bear Red Moon and Nomad Gods with 28mm Miniatures for playing pieces! Okay, I'll settle for scenarios books for the skirmish game that would allow you to simulate the battles from WBRM and NG with these miniatures...

The rules of Dragon Pass/WBRM and Nomad Gods use stacking as part of the tactical element - this is a boardgame that doesn't lend itself well to playing with miniatures. Agreed, but there are methods that actually work with figures and make 'stacking order' games easier to play as long as concealing what's in the order isn't a gameplay function (I can't recall if DP does this). What I'm thinking of are 'army' cards. In some games I've seen them actually as boxes on the mapboard, off to the side, particularly where the number of army units (stacked collections of smaller units) is constrained to a finite number like the number of commanders, etc. Other games use separate cards lying off to the side. In either case, the card bears the collection of units, and the token/figure/counter on the board is is a placeholder for that whole army (typically, it's the general themselves). Even without figures, this method goes a long way to making giant-stack-of-counters games a ton easier to play in any case - I'm looking at you, Fire in the East. The Dragon Pass rules by Wulf Cobett dedicate quite a bit of rules to stacking, for movement, re-ordering before the physical magic phase, the missile phase, and again before combat phase, of hiding the exact nature of the units in the stack, The top three full units and any number of bracketed combat factor units above the third are able to attack. I can see them used in other games, but DP plays better with stackable counters. Quote Telling how it is excessive verbis

In an ideal gaming world, the players would be able to scale up from role-playing to skirmish fighting and back down seamlessly. Imagine you are escorting a caravan across Prax, and get attacked by nomads - the game immediately scales to skirmish scale - say twenty or so on a side - your PC's, fifteen or so allies, against a band of nomads. At the end of the conflict, you drop seamlessly back town to individual scale, and account for your wounds and magic points expended.

Pentallion
Jack O'Bear is high on my list. But meantime I will be snatching these babies up. I haven't painted miniatures since I painted the RuneQuest miniature box set in the early 80's.
TrippyHippy
To my mind, it's a way of getting into the setting because of the visual impact of the miniatures, and in some ways it'll be a direction of the gameworld development that had the pathway broken in by the success of Warhammer. Warhammer is too expensive for my wants these days, but a skirmish game based on RuneQuest ideas (especially chaos) could be something I could definitely get into. I like the bronze age themes too. g33k
@Dishdashgames (Colin) -- Thanks for joining in here! As you can see, there's some excitement... You mention "everyday Orlanthi's for the basic box set." When you say "everyday" I presume you DON'T mean a box of genuinely "everyday" folks -- farmers, herdsmen, etc -- but rather "Adventurer" sorts; or am I wrong? Are you explicitly excluding Rune-Lord / Rune-Priest levels from "everyday"... or is that even decided yet? Since DishDash is a mini's/wargame outfit, I'm presuming the next set will be "foes" of some sort for the Orlanthi to fight -- Lunars? Chaos Beasts? Or ... ? Maybe this is still being decided/debated... ? As per my prior note -- I'm largely in agreement with sentiments above. e.g. ... I'm most-interested in "uniquely-Gloranthan" figures. I can paint a Death Rune on the shield of most any sword-slinger and call him a "Humakti," Moon painted onto scimitar/khopesh user & and I've got a Lunar Legionnaire. But a dragonsnail? Jack-o-Bear? etc... Also (as also noted above) we need Praxian Nomads! And, FWIW: the skirmish-rules will probably net get much of my attention unless pretty firmly-integrated into the RQ/Glorantha setting... There's really 2 different markets under consideration, it looks like -- skirmish-rules games with mini's integral, and mini's-as-adjunct-to-RPG. There is obviously overlap! I suspect the ideal business-strategy for this "dual" market will be a bit different (but that's just a suspicion & I've never sold in EITHER market, so....) . Any chance of this going in the direction of a "Kickstarter" (or similar) campaign? Or are you just doin' it oldschool (making product & putting it up for sale)? Other than "buy your stuff" is there anything you'd like to see from the community, in terms of support? 1 Quote C'es ne pas un .sig
styopa
I haven't played Skirmish OUTBREAK (haven't played a skirmish mini wargame for decades) although I understand it's reasonably highly regarded. Anyone played it? I hope that it mechanically dovetails well enough with the RQ rules that the migration to the skirmish and from skirmish to tabletop is pretty intuitive. It'll be interesting to see how they implement spirits and magic as Dragon Pass illustrated that they have a weighty impact. Spirits, magic, and heroic units were so dominant in DP that they often wiped the floor with mundane forces, to the point that any of them being included in a skirmish would sort of reduce it to 'who shoots first' sort of a thing? Yinkin
Contrary to some other posters I do NOT wish for a ruleset that specifically links with the RQ rules. RuneQuest is a great rpg, but for a minis skirmish game you want something faster that creates interesting small battles! I have played some such, Confrontation and Bushido being two favourites, although I have not tried Outbreak! The important thing is that it is a good, interesting and tactical set of skirmish rules! I do echo the comments about the models, though! Orlanthi is a good beginning, and I think they are and should be unique enough that you would want them rather any old barbarian mini with a rune on the shield. Praxian beastriders, I agree very much with! They are a very characterful culture that works excellently as foes to the orlanthi!
